Community Supported Enterprises As A Local Investment Strategy, Norman Walzer
Community Supported Enterprises As A Local Investment Strategy, Norman Walzer
Reports, Whitepapers, Articles, and Other Publications
Aging business owners, declining markets because of population declines, and slow local economies have threatened essential businesses in many small rural communities. In response, local groups have organized efforts in which residents pool their funds to purchase or reinvigorate a threatened business that adds significantly to quality of life. These Community Supported Enterprises have grown in popularity with the advent of Crowd-funding techniques. Norman Walzer, of CGS, describes the results of a national survey of how CSEs are organized, managed, and operated, along with their successes.

International Teachers' Perceptions Of Leadership Practices For Effective Teacher Evaluations: A Qualitative Case Study, Megan E. Geshel
International Teachers' Perceptions Of Leadership Practices For Effective Teacher Evaluations: A Qualitative Case Study, Megan E. Geshel
CUP Ed.D. Dissertations
Many teacher evaluation systems in use today were developed in the early mid-1900s and reflect what educators believed about teaching at the time, which included only a few observable behaviors (Danielson & McGreal, 2000). Furthermore, many teachers find the evaluative process ineffective for professional improvement. The purpose of this qualitative study was to understand the teacher evaluation process, and how international teachers perceive the impact of school leadership practices for effective teacher evaluation. This study’s theoretical framework focused on the attributes found within transformational and transactional leadership practices, and how these affect the evaluation process. The research study provided evidence …
Spiritual Leadership, School Climate, And Teacher Collective Efficacy In Asian International Schools, Tobin E. Holden
Spiritual Leadership, School Climate, And Teacher Collective Efficacy In Asian International Schools, Tobin E. Holden
CUP Ed.D. Dissertations
This research explored whether spiritual leadership could predict teacher collective efficacy and school climate in Asian international schools. Fifteen international schools from nine countries elected to participate and 104 teachers completed an online survey. Linear regression and multiple regression were used to discover a prediction equation linking spiritual leadership to the outcomes of teacher collective efficacy and school climate. Findings from this study indicated that spiritual leadership significantly predicted teacher collective efficacy accounting for 28.3% of the variation, a small effect according to Cohen (1988). Further, spiritual leadership significantly predicted school climate accounting for 44.1.3% of the variation, a medium …
Building Effective Parental Involvement In Middle Schools: The Parents' Perceptions, Tracy Oates
Building Effective Parental Involvement In Middle Schools: The Parents' Perceptions, Tracy Oates
CUP Ed.D. Dissertations
Parental involvement is an integral variable that bears a significant value in the overall academic achievement and learning process of a student’s educational journey. Therefore, all parents should play a major role in their children’s academic success from elementary through middle and high school. The prime focus of this research was to examine the perceptions of middle school parents and find strategies to build effective relationships between the school and home. This two-part case study utilized Epstein’s (1995) School and Family Partnership Surveys of Teachers and Parents in the Elementary and Middle Grades, and semi-structured interviews to gather a firm …

Environmental Studies Student Projects
The intention of this project is to start educating children on the consequences of polluting our planet with seemingly harmless waste such as plastics. Many do not realize how small plastic objects can be fatal to many animals. We asked elementary school children to collect trash as part of their participation. Then the trash was used to make a poster featuring Ella the crab. This poster is paired with a children’s story book, where Ella and her animal friends are featured dealing with the consequences of littering. The story book depicts how people’s behavior in natural areas can harm innocent …

Environmental Studies Student Projects
Colin the Cormorant was an art project created to represent the effects of pollution on local organisms, such as Colin the Cormorant. We hope by seeing this sculpture people think twice about how they dispose of their trash. Colin is made from trash collected at Fortunes Rocks Beach in Biddeford Pool. We chose to make a cormorant because we frequently see cormorants around the Biddeford Pool area and they are a seabird that has been impacted by various types of pollution (garbage, air pollution, etc.).
