Effect Of Lexical Retrieval Cascade Treatment On Naming And Discourse Of Individuals With Logopenic Variant Of Primary Progressive Aphasia(Lvppa), Mikyong Kim
Communicative Disorders Faculty Publications
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine whether the lexical retrieval cascade treatment was effective in improving single word naming and discourse of two individuals diagnosed with the logopenic variant of Primary Progressive Aphasia (lvPPA) when training was conducted using single word naming and discourse tasks, respectively. Methods: This study employed a single subject case design. In phase 1, one individual with lvPPA underwent naming treatment to re-learn three sets of words, using semantic, autobiographical, phonological, and orthographic cueing hierarchy. A daily CART-based copying of trained words was given as homework. In Phase 2, the cueing hierarchy was …

Telomerase Activity Is Required For The Telomere G-Overhang Structure In Trypanosoma Brucei, Ranjodh Sandhu, Bibo Li
Telomerase Activity Is Required For The Telomere G-Overhang Structure In Trypanosoma Brucei, Ranjodh Sandhu, Bibo Li
Biological, Geological, and Environmental Faculty Publications
Trypanosoma brucei causes fatal human African trypanosomiasis and evades the host immune response by regularly switching its major surface antigen, VSG, which is expressed exclusively from subtelomeric loci. Telomere length and telomere proteins play important roles in regulating VSG silencing and switching. T. brucei telomerase plays a key role in maintaining telomere length, and T. brucei telomeres terminate in a single-stranded 3′ G-rich overhang. Understanding the detailed structure of the telomere G-overhang and its maintenance will contribute greatly to better understanding telomere maintenance mechanisms. Using an optimized adaptor ligation assay, we found that most T. brucei telomere G-overhangs end in …

Teaching Security Defense Through Web-Based Hacking At The Undergraduate Level, Brent Wilson
Faculty Publications - Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
The attack surface for hackers and attackers is growing every day. Future cybersecurity professionals must have the knowledge and the skills to defend against these cyber attacks. Learning defensive techniques and tools can help defend against today’s attacks but what about tomorrow's? As the types of attacks change so must the cybersecurity professional. The only way for the cybersecurity professional to achieve this nimbleness is to understand the structural anatomy of the various attack types. Understanding the threat environment is the key to future success. Security defense through offensive techniques should and can be taught at the undergraduate level. Using …
Using Classdojo® To Enhance School Age Students’ Prosocial Behavior In A Classroom Setting, Valerie R. Forte
Using Classdojo® To Enhance School Age Students’ Prosocial Behavior In A Classroom Setting, Valerie R. Forte
Theses and Dissertations
Previous literature supports the use of a variety of classroom behavioral management programs to increase prosocial behaviors and decrease problem behaviors. For example, token economies, placement of classroom rules and guidelines, and providing the opportunity for students to choose the activity or subject to work on, have proven to be effective for many students; however, they can be expensive and cumbersome to manage. ClassDojo®, a classroom management system, is a type of digital token economy system that includes technology to track digital points for teacher-directed behavior. The program is free to download, simple to use, and is easily transferable between …

Fall Protection Training: A Case Study Using Cbt For Latino Construction Workers, David P. Gilkey, Carla Lopez Del Puerto, Megan R. Miller, Carlos Evia, Carla Lopez Del Puertoisnow
Safety Health & Industrial Hygiene
Latino construction workers are at an increased risk of worksite injuries and fatalities due to language, cultural barriers, and ineffective training. This case-study investigated computer-based video training (CBT) for scaffold safety. The CBT training was developed using a participatory approach involving direct input from Latino roofers and framers. This paper focuses on evaluation-improvement of training that combined workers’ ideas of a safe work environment with OSHA standards. Researchers investigated the appropriateness and effectiveness of a brief CBT presentation addressing fall protection and scaffold use among Latino roofers. The results indicated that Latino construction workers at a roofing company in Colorado …

Orwell's 1984 And A Fourth Amendment Cybersurveillance Nonintrusion Test, Margaret Hu
Scholarly Articles
This Article describes a cybersurveillance nonintrusion test under the Fourth Amendment that is grounded in evolving customary law to replace the reasonable expectation of privacy test formulated in Katz v. United States. To illustrate how customary law norms are shaping modern Fourth Amendment jurisprudence, this Article examines the recurrence of judicial references to George Orwell’s novel, 1984, within the Fourth Amendment context when federal courts have assessed the constitutionality of modern surveillance methods. The Supreme Court has indicated that the Fourth Amendment privacy doctrine must now evolve to impose meaningful limitations on the intrusiveness of new surveillance technologies.

‘Airbnb’ In Western Australia: New Issues For Policy Makers Arising From A ‘Disruptive Innovatation', Bertus De Villiers
‘Airbnb’ In Western Australia: New Issues For Policy Makers Arising From A ‘Disruptive Innovatation', Bertus De Villiers
The University of Notre Dame Australia Law Review
The short terms rental market, colloquially referred to as ‘Airbnb’ accommodation, has proliferated the Australian (and international) accommodation market. The number of rooms being made available per nights in Australia via sort term rental websites runs into the hundreds of thousands. Policy makers have generally been slow to respond to this ‘disruptive innovation’. It is particularly in strata title schemes where the legality of short term rentals is being tested. In this article consideration is given to a recent judgement of the Supreme Court of Appeal in Western Australia to uphold a decision of the State Administrative Tribunal whereby a …
Rus V Comcare: The Rules Of Evidence In The Aat, Nicholas Cardaci
Rus V Comcare: The Rules Of Evidence In The Aat, Nicholas Cardaci
The University of Notre Dame Australia Law Review
The Rus v Comcare cases arise from a claim for compensation by the widowed Ms Rus. The cases saw a highly contentious piece of evidence tendered. This evidence was hearsay of a lay opinion that answered the ultimate issue. The evidence was considered by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (‘AAT’) and the Federal Court of Australia (‘Court’). These considerations demonstrate the uncertainty of how the rules of evidence are applicable in tribunals. Specifically, the cases raise applicability of the rules against opinion and hearsay evidence. Further, the relevance of delay and the parol evidence rule to these cases is raised. The …
Constitutional Conflict And The Development Of Canadian Aboriginal Law, Guy Charlton, Xiang Gao
Constitutional Conflict And The Development Of Canadian Aboriginal Law, Guy Charlton, Xiang Gao
The University of Notre Dame Australia Law Review
This paper argues that aboriginal rights in Canada have been greatly affected by 19 th century governmental and social conflicts within the Canadian colonial state. These conflicts, largely over the ownership of land and regulatory authority between the federal government and the provinces necessarily impacted the First Nations on the ground while affecting how their legal claims were recognized and implemented. In particular they impacted the legal efficacy of treaty rights, the scope of rights recognised by the courts and an expansive legally protected notion of indigenous sovereignty. As a result, the rights now protected under sec. 25 and 35 …

Confirmation That Mat1a P.Ala259val Mutation Causes Autosomal Dominant Hypermethioninemia, M J. Muriello, S Viall, T Bottiglieri, K Cusmano-Ozog, C R. Ferreira

Methionine adenosyltransferase (MAT) I/III deficiency is an inborn error of metabolism caused by mutations in MAT1A, encoding the catalytic subunit of MAT responsible for the synthesis of S-adenosylmethionine, and is characterized by persistent hypermethioninemia. While historically considered a recessive disorder, a milder autosomal dominant form of MAT I/III deficiency occurs, though only the most common mutation p.Arg264His has ample evidence to prove dominant inheritance. We report a case of hypermethioninemia caused by the p.Ala259Val substitution and provide evidence of autosomal dominant inheritance by showing both maternal inheritance of the mutation and concomitant hypermethioninemia. The p.Ala259Val mutation falls in the …
