Description Of Number, Person And Tense Features In The Verbal Morphologies Of Jibbāli And Lari, Khalsa Al Aghbari, Me. Muhammad Ourang Dec 2017

Description Of Number, Person And Tense Features In The Verbal Morphologies Of Jibbāli And Lari, Khalsa Al Aghbari, Me. Muhammad Ourang

Journal of Arts and Social Sciences

The study describes a few linguistic features in the verbal morphologies of two understudied languages: Jibbāli and Lari. Jibbāli, a Modern South Arabian language spoken in the southern part of the Sultanate of Oman and Lari, an Indo-Iranian language spoken in Iran, are at risk of being endangered due to the facts that (1) they lack a writing system, (2) they are not taught at schools, (3) they are not the official languages in Oman and Iran and, most importantly, (4) there is no effort recorded to preserve these languages. Therefore, the study aims at exposing the linguistic richness of …

Christmas Pickle, Kjeisten Secretan Dec 2017

Christmas Pickle, Kjeisten Secretan

USU Student Folklore Fieldwork

So, my mom’s older sister Gloria. I think she gave my mom this pickle, but it’s not a real pickle for you Christmas tree, it’s a German tradition I think. The thing is you hide it in the Christmas tree and the person who finds it gets a present or like a prize. But my mom would always hide it or my dad would hide it the night before and it’s the first thing we would do on Christmas morning is we would have a competition to see who would find the pickle and then yeah…but then it got a …

Magical Wheat, Kjeisten Secretan Dec 2017

Magical Wheat, Kjeisten Secretan

USU Student Folklore Fieldwork

In a cave up American Fork canyon, my neighbor found some vases full of wheat which had been there for a long time and they sent them to General Mills and they said it can fight diseases naturally, this wheat, and they asked if they could do some more tests on it and stuff, he told them they could, but he grew some every year and his friend grew some every year so they would have some. They would give them out to the scout kids when they would tell this story. They told us to chew it up.

Scary Northern Lights, Kjeisten Secretan Dec 2017

Scary Northern Lights, Kjeisten Secretan

USU Student Folklore Fieldwork

I lived on a reservation in Saskatchewan, right? They would tell us at night when the northern lights are out, that you couldn’t whistle, cuz if you whistled they would just come down and get you and carry you off. So I never whistled and I was scared of death of them. I whistled once, then I ran all the way home.

Tickling Toes, Alyssa Burdett Dec 2017

Tickling Toes, Alyssa Burdett

USU Student Folklore Fieldwork

I just read an interesting entry that he [her dad] wrote:

Beth [her dad’s wife] I think of you every day, but some days pretty much all day. I pray that you are happy and busy. I hope that you remember me and are looking forward to our being reunited to be together forever, for always for all eternity. Experience let me know you are watching over me. One night someone was tickling my feet. I raised just as you vanished. Another I was dreaming you came leaned over and gave me a kiss. Once again as I awakened you …

What's On The Stick?, Mayah Reaveley Dec 2017

What's On The Stick?, Mayah Reaveley

USU Student Folklore Fieldwork

Me: How do you play “what’s on the stick?”

Ashton: Well there’s a person with a stick, and they say two things that you can be (collectors note: I remember the other players asking the person with the stick “what’s on the stick” at this point, which is where the name of the game comes from), and, two people go on the tramp and they decide which one they’re going to be, and then, when they’re ready, the person with the stick... [running to put his mug under where the coffee is coming out of the machine while talking]

Both: …

Remembering, Taylor Mccord Dec 2017

Remembering, Taylor Mccord

B.F.A. Practicum Exhibition (ART 498)

Time doesn’t wait for anyone. It always changes the way you look at something, or the way it looks. This is something I learned from a young age, and have tried to battle against it in order to preserve memories I’ve made. I started out collecting family photos, then I moved on to taking my own, but as I got older I realized there is no real way to preserve a memory, it’s always changing. As years pass little moments are forgotten even physical relics from the past deteriorate and age with you. Because of this, I soon realized there’s …

The Acquisition Of Syntax: A Nativist Perspective Vs. A Cognitivist Perspective, Rashid Al-Balush Dec 2017

The Acquisition Of Syntax: A Nativist Perspective Vs. A Cognitivist Perspective, Rashid Al-Balush

Journal of Arts and Social Sciences

This paper looks into how two main frameworks view the acquisition of syntax. These are the nativist approach which claims that language is acquired because human beings are equipped with a language acquisition device in the form of grammatical knowledge, and the cognitivist approach which views language like the other cognitive skills and so claims that we acquire language using general cognitive mechanisms that are not specific to language. The paper reviews a number of studies that report on the acquisition of various aspects of the syntax of natural language; the studies are from both frameworks. The paper then evaluates …

Inhibitory Effect Of Bacteriophages Isolated From Sewage Water In The City Of Kirkuk On Some Types Of Human Pathogenic Bacteria, Muhsin Hamad Edham, Firas Md Al-Tae, Alaa Ty Al-Hammadi

Baghdad Science Journal

Most approaches to combat antibiotic resistant bacteria concentrate on discovering new antibiotics or modifying existing ones. However, one of the most promising alternatives is the use of bacteriophages. This study was focused on the isolation of bacteriophages that are specific to some of commonly human pathogens namely E. coli, Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella spp. and Klebsiella pneumoniae. These bacteriophages were isolated from sewages that were collected from four different locations in Kirkuk City. Apart from S. pyogenes, bacteriophages specific to all tested bacteria were successfully isolated and tested for their effectiveness by spot test. The …

Effect Of Diffusion Temperature On The Some Electrical Properties Of Cds:In Thin Films Prepared By Vacuum Evaporation, Hana’A F. Al-Taay

Baghdad Science Journal

CdSfilms were prepared by thermal evaporation technique at thickness 1 μm on glass substrates and these films were doped with indium (3%) by thermal diffusion method. The electrical properties of these have been investigated in the range of diffusion temperature (473-623 K)> Activation energy is increased with diffusion temperature unless at 623 K activation energy had been decreased. Hall effect results have shown that all the films n-type except at 573 and 623 K and with increase diffusion temperature both of concentration and mobility carriers were increased.

Bayes And Non-Bayes Estimation Methods For The Parameter Of Maxwell-Boltzmann Distribution, Iden H. Alkanani, Shayma G. Salman Dec 2017

Bayes And Non-Bayes Estimation Methods For The Parameter Of Maxwell-Boltzmann Distribution, Iden H. Alkanani, Shayma G. Salman

Baghdad Science Journal

In this paper, point estimation for parameter θ of Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution has been investigated by using simulation technique, to estimate the parameter by two sections methods; the first section includes Non-Bayesian estimation methods, such as (Maximum Likelihood estimator method, and Moment estimator method), while the second section includes standard Bayesian estimation method, using two different priors (Inverse Chi-Square and Jeffrey) such as (standard Bayes estimator, and Bayes estimator based on Jeffrey's prior). Comparisons among these methods were made by employing mean square error measure. Simulation technique for different sample sizes has been used to compare between these methods.

On The Connection Between The Dynamical System And The Ellis Compactification With Transitive Pointed System, Lieth A. Majed

Baghdad Science Journal

In this paper, some relations between the flows and the Enveloping Semi-group were studied. It allows to associate some properties on the topological compactification to any pointed flows. These relations enable us to study a number of the properties of the principles of flows corresponding with using algebric properties. Also in this paper proofs to some theorems of these relations are given.

Network Self-Fault Management Based On Multi-Intelligent Agents And Windows Management Instrumentation (Wmi), Hasanen S. Abdullah, Maha Abdulkareem Alrawi, Dalal N. Hammod

Baghdad Science Journal

This paper proposed a new method for network self-fault management (NSFM) based on two technologies: intelligent agent to automate fault management tasks, and Windows Management Instrumentations (WMI) to identify the fault faster when resources are independent (different type of devices). The proposed network self-fault management reduced the load of network traffic by reducing the request and response between the server and client, which achieves less downtime for each node in state of fault occurring in the client. The performance of the proposed system is measured by three measures: efficiency, availability, and reliability. A high efficiency average is obtained depending on …

Arabic Language Sciences, Literature And Arts In Al- Maghreb And Al-Andalus Through Ibn Khaldun’S “Muqaddema”, Amer A. Qobbaj

Journal of Arts and Social Sciences

This study aims to identify and portray the main historical and civilizational features of the linguistic situation in Al-Maghreb and Al-Andalus, based on the Muqaddema of Ibn Khaldun (d. 808 A.H\1406 A.D), who was a witness to many of the scientific aspects of civilization in both countries, especially the Arabic language sciences, literature and arts, a large bulk of which, was transferred from the Islamic East and reached Al-Andalus and Al- Maghreb. Ibn Khaldun had divided sciences into two groups: sciences based on textual evidence and sciences based on cognitive reasoning. He considered the Arabic Language sciences within the textual …
