The research discusses the utilization of vertebrate fauna at the Kidang Cave site to identify the types and variations of vertebrate animals as subsistence and their respective habitats. The analysis was also instrumental in defining the natural landscape of Kidang Cave during the prehistoric era. Faunal fragments were previously analyzed and identified taxonomically and anatomically. The analysis started with re-sortation of faunal bone fragments, classifying and further analyzing the data to obtain the number of identified specimens for each taxon (NISP) and the minimum number of individuals (MNI). From 8,265 bone fragments, only 1,378 were anatomically and taxonomically identifiable. The …

Eye trackers are used for measuring a person’s eye movements, for example, while reading text on a screen. This information can be used by scientists to study the human visual system during object recognition or text comprehension. Moreover, engineers can build gaze-controlled interfaces that trigger a variety of actions when the user looks at pre-specified icons on a screen. In my research, I studied how gaze-contingent displays can be used to enhance the information that is provided by texts. This thesis analyzes the research from a project on the builders who helped build Columbia, South Carolina from 1890 to 1940, a dynamic time of growth as the city moved from post-Civil War recovery through industrialization and into modernization.1 Previous research of Columbia’s architectural history often focuses on the few architects with national recognition, like Robert Mills, the architect of the Washington Monument. Molecular techniques for guiding plant breeding have successfully used wild progenitors of domestic crops as sources of genetic variants conveying desirable traits. However, epigenetic variation, in particular DNA methylation, is a significant source of phenotypic variation and epigenetic effects of plant domestication are poorly understood. Described herein are the first single-base pair resolution methylomes of the highly valued crop iceberg lettuce (Lactuca sativa cv. Salinas) and its close relative, and ubiquitous weed, L. serriola. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a notoriously lethal disease characterized by prominent stromal involvement, which plays complex roles in regulating tumor growth and therapeutic response. The extracellular matrix (ECM)-rich stroma has been implicated as a barrier to drug penetration, although stromal depletion strategies have had mixed clinical success. It remains less clear how biophysical interactions with the ECM regulate invasive progression and susceptibilities to specific therapies. The present collaborative ethnographic case study was design to explore teaching practices for English Language Learners (ELLs) in the United States, hereafter called "emergent bilinguals" (García, 2009). Through the theoretical lens of ethnographic vulnerability (Behar, 1996), I conducted 40-hour observations, four interviews, and artifact collections. By using an impressionist tale writing style throughout this article (Maanen, 2011), this paper presents the journey of an elementary school teacher who tries to employ classroom practices, teaching strategies, and assessments to educate emergent bilinguals. The article discusses the panegyrical ode “To the Polish Felitsa” by the 18th-century Russian poet Dmitry Khvostov, a work belonging to the so-called “Felitsa Cycle”. The first element of the cycle, both chronologically and in the sense of having initiated all subsequent compositions, is the ode “Felitsa” by the eminent Russian poet of the turn of the 19th century, Gavrila Derzhavin. Khvostov’s panegyric refers to specific historical events of the writer’s times, as well as to other authors’ poems in terms of poetics, imagery and means of expression. Gennady Shpalikov’s poem “Ballada pro tikhoye otchayanie” (‘A Ballad About a Quiet Despair’), dedicated to film director Larisa Shepitko, is hereby published for the first time. The piece survived as part of Shpalikov’s letter to Shepitko dating from the 1960s. The author of the article examines key motifs of the poem and places it in the context of the whole output of the scenarist and poet, showing how it reverberates with his other lyrical pieces as well as screenplays.

The article researches the issue of the relevance of poetry in the USSR, using as an example the year 1926, when several literary periodicals simultaneously decided to investigate the attitude of their readers and of poets towards this issue. The analysis of the surveys conducted among readers and in libraries confirms the statement made by Boris Pasternak that lyric poetry was then undergoing a crisis, caused by the loss of its past audience and by not yet having any new audience who would need the subjectivity of an author to be presented to tchem in a lyrical form.
