The Effects Of Outsourcing And Outward Fdi On Skill Structure In Slovenia: Evidence On Matched Firm-Employee Data, Mojca Lindič Dec 2017

The Effects Of Outsourcing And Outward Fdi On Skill Structure In Slovenia: Evidence On Matched Firm-Employee Data, Mojca Lindič

Economic and Business Review

This paper studies the effect of outsourcing and outward FDI on firms’ skill structure. Its main contributions consist of studying changes in the skill structure that can be associated with outsourcing and outward FDI to high- and low-income countries, and including a new dimension when defining skills, which also controls for occupational classification of workers. The analysis employs a matched employer-employee dataset for Slovenian manufacturing and service firms between 1997 and 2010. The results indicate that outward FDI to high- and low-income countries has a positive impact on the skill share in manufacturing firms. The results also show that in …

The Perceptions Of Teachers In A K-8 School On The Implementation And Impact Of Culturally Responsive-Positive Behavior Interventions And Supports (Cr-Pbis), Kathleen Ellwood Dec 2017

The Perceptions Of Teachers In A K-8 School On The Implementation And Impact Of Culturally Responsive-Positive Behavior Interventions And Supports (Cr-Pbis), Kathleen Ellwood

CUP Ed.D. Dissertations

Despite decades of effort to change disciplinary practices in American schools, racial disparities continue and are most prevalent for Black students, according to national Office Disciplinary Referral data. While Culturally Responsive-Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (CR-PBIS) is the result of years of adjustments to weave cultural responsiveness into Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) systems and decrease racial disciplinary disparities, the results at K-12 schools have been inconsistent. Cultural Race Theory, which recognizes racism is reflected in all societal systems and is the foundation for this study, may provide a clue as to why racial disciplinary disparities continue. This study …

Connectivity Motifs Of Inhibitory Neurons In The Mouse Auditory Cortex, Hysell V. Oviedo Dec 2017

Connectivity Motifs Of Inhibitory Neurons In The Mouse Auditory Cortex, Hysell V. Oviedo

Publications and Research

Connectivity determines the function of neural circuits and it is the gateway to behavioral output. The emergent properties of the Auditory Cortex (ACx) have been difficult to unravel partly due to our assumption that it is organized similarly to other sensory areas. But detailed investigations of its functional connectivity have begun to reveal significant differences from other cortical areas that perform different functions. Using Laser Scanning Photostimulation we previously discovered unique circuit features in the ACx. Specifically, we found that the functional asymmetry of the ACx (tonotopy and isofrequency axes) is reflected in the local circuitry of excitatory inputs to …

Comparative Study On Cushion Performance Between 3d Printed Kelvin Structure And 3d Printed Lattice Structure, Lakshmi Priyadarshini

Theses

Frequently transported packaging goods are more prone to damage due to impact, jolting or vibration in transit. Fragile goods, for example, glass, ceramics, porcelain are susceptible to mechanical stresses. Hence ancillary materials like cushions play an important role when utilized within package. In this work, an analytical model of a 3D cellular structure is established based on Kelvin model and lattice structure. The research will provide a comparative study between the 3D printed Kelvin unit structure and 3D printed lattice structure. The comparative investigation is based on parameters defining cushion performance such as cushion creep, indentation, and cushion curve analysis. …

Reducing Low Acuity Length Of Stay A Care Paradigm Transition, Nicholas Wilson, Michelle Reed

General Submissions: Presentations (Oral and Poster)

Poster presentation, Session E presented Friday, September 15, 2017

Purpose: Emergency Department overcrowding is an epidemic in the United States. Use of services is often utilized by patients that do not require the level of care that we often provide. As a result length of stay in this patient population is sometimes extreme. Additionally, this population often times ties up resources that could be utilized to care for sicker and more acute patients. Creating a que or wait for patients is an unsafe practice and lends to less overall effeicient Emergency Departments.

Design: The study that we performed was a …

Revising Middleton's Model Of Mathematics Achievement And Exploring Ethnic Differences Across White, Black, And Hispanic Adolescents, James Michael Ford Jr. Dec 2017

Revising Middleton's Model Of Mathematics Achievement And Exploring Ethnic Differences Across White, Black, And Hispanic Adolescents, James Michael Ford Jr.

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

For decades, the achievement gap across White, Black, and Hispanic students has yet to be reduced, with White students consistently outperforming Black and Hispanic students on standardized mathematics assessments (National Assessment of Educational Progress, 2017). In order to reduce this gap, achievement motivation scholars have been studying the multifaceted ways in which cognitive factors may influence academic outcomes, especially for students who have traditionally been under-examined and underserved (Borman, & Overman, 2004; Borman & Dowling, 2010). Eccles, Wigfield (e.g., Eccles, 2007; Wigfield & Eccles, 2000), and Middleton and colleagues (Middleton, 2013; Middleton & Spanias, 1999; Middleton & Toluk, 1999) have …

Aerospace, Physics, and Space Science Faculty Publications

For the first time a principle-component analysis is used to separate out different orthogonal modes of the two-particle correlation matrix from heavy ion collisions. The analysis uses data from sNN=2.76TeV PbPb and sNN=5.02TeV pPb collisions collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Two-particle azimuthal correlations have been extensively used to study hydrodynamic flow in heavy ion collisions. Recently it was shown that the expected factorization of two-particle results into a product of the constituent single-particle anisotropies is broken. The new information provided by these modes may shed light on the breakdown of flow factorization in heavy …

Development Beyond Seventy; The Way Forward, Ishrat Husain Dr.

Faculty Research - Talks, Speeches, & Discourse

This paper attempts to examine several alternative hypotheses that can explain this slow down, volatile and inequitable growth of the last twenty five years and through a process of elimination advances theoretical and empirical evidence to show that the most powerful explanatory hypothesis lies in the decay of institutions of governance.. The same institutions , on the other hand, were strong and performed quite well during the first four decades despite a myriad of difficulties and external and internal shocks. The main argument of this paper is that the intermediation process through which good economic policies are translated into a …
