Modeling Variability In Pre-Columbian Woodland Habitation And Social Organization: The Brickhill Bluff Site, Cumberland Island, Georgia., Stephen Andrew Wise
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2010 - 2019
This thesis examines Woodland settlement patterns at the Brickhill Bluff site on Cumberland Island, Georgia. Aspects of Woodland habitation and social organization are not well understood along the Georgia coast. Using shell and artifact distribution data from excavations at Brickhill Bluff, this thesis attempts to discern how Woodland populations, specifically Deptford and St. Johns cultures, utilized the site between 1000 B.C. and A.D. 1000. This study also examines the efficacy of the midden typology already established for the South Atlantic Coastal Plain by statistically comparing the artifact assemblage from Brickhill Bluff to samples from sites used to develop this midden …

Moving Ever Forward: Reading The Significance Of Motion And Space As A Representation Of Trauma In Toni Morrison’S Song Of Solomon And Colson Whitehead’S The Underground Railroad, Samantha Richmond
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2010 - 2019
This thesis argues that three models of trauma theory, which include traditional trauma theory, postcolonial trauma theory, and cultural trauma theory, must be joined to fully understand the trauma experienced by African Americans within the novels Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison and The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. By implementing these three theories, we can see how each novel’s main character is exploring and learning about African American trauma and better understand how an adjustment of space and time creates the possibility for the implementation of trauma theory. Each novel presents a journey, and it is through this movement …
Nest-To-Surf Mortality Of Loggerhead (Caretta Caretta) Sea Turtle Hatchlings On Florida’S East Coast In 2016, Victoria Erb
Nest-To-Surf Mortality Of Loggerhead (Caretta Caretta) Sea Turtle Hatchlings On Florida’S East Coast In 2016, Victoria Erb
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2010 - 2019
Worldwide, sea turtles are especially vulnerable immediately after emerging from nests. Many monitoring programs measure hatchling production from nest inventories. These inventories rarely account for mortality occurring post-emergence, leaving an incomplete estimate of hatchling production. This study addresses the nest-to-surf data gap for Florida’s east coast nesting assemblages of loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta). Five locations were surveyed during the 2016 nesting season by using infrared time-lapse imagery, night vision optics, and track maps. Over all beaches, 7.6% of the observed hatchlings did not survive to reach the water. Mortality sources varied by location. Observed predators included: foxes, bobcats, yellow-crowned …
Narcissism Admiration And Rivalry Using Situation Research, Jamie Zahava Ramos
Narcissism Admiration And Rivalry Using Situation Research, Jamie Zahava Ramos
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2010 - 2019
Narcissism is a multidimensional construct consisting of many components and a variety of conceptualizations. One such example is the NARC conceptualization of grandiose narcissism and its two subcomponents admiration and rivalry. This research aims to answer three questions about the NARC conceptualization: (1) what is the relationship between narcissism and Big Six Personality dimensions?; (2) what is the relationship between narcissism and observable behavior?; and (3) how does narcissism relate to situational experiences in daily life? Results showed that, consistent with previous research, narcissism was related to Big Six personality. Additionally, narcissism was related to observable behavior. Finally, the results …
No Surrender: Bruce Springsteen, Neoliberalism And Rock And Roll’S Melancholic Fantasy Of Sovereign Rebellion, Kaitlin N. Graves
No Surrender: Bruce Springsteen, Neoliberalism And Rock And Roll’S Melancholic Fantasy Of Sovereign Rebellion, Kaitlin N. Graves
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2010 - 2019
This thesis builds from press accounts of Bruce Springsteen’s South by Southwest keynote address, taken by many to be a renewed call to arms of the classic mantras of the rock ethos in the age of a declining recording industry. In tracing the ways the speech circulated I argue that its discourse was rearticulated toward quite different (and concerning) ends. Throughout, I aim to show the apparatuses of power that sustains the rock liberation fantasy. I read the coverage of Springsteen’s address as a therapeutic discourse meant to soothe the anxiety over the closure of agency in the age of …
Ocean Acidification Effects On Photosynthesis In Tropical Marine Macroalgae, Regina C. Zweng
Ocean Acidification Effects On Photosynthesis In Tropical Marine Macroalgae, Regina C. Zweng
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2010 - 2019
Field data from CO2 vents, a current model of future ocean acidification conditions, show a positive correlation between elevated seawater pCO2 and fleshy macroalgal abundance, as well as a negative correlation between elevated seawater pCO2 and calcareous macroalgal abundance on coral reefs. One underlying physiological mechanism for increases of fleshy macroalgae species in response to greater pCO2 could be an increase in their photosynthesis. Furthermore, inorganic carbon use mechanisms, irradiance and depth may influence species-specific responses to ocean acidification. Therefore, this thesis aimed to discern carbon use strategies and photosynthetic responses to elevated pCO2 of dominant tropical fleshy and calcareous …

Numerical Simulation Of A Flowfield Around A Hypersonic Missile With Lateral Jets, Daniel Rodriguez
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2010 - 2019
This work uses computational fluid dynamics to study the flowfield around a hypersonic missile with two lateral jets to provide control in place of control surfaces. The jets exhaust an H2-O2 mixture at Mach number of 2.9 with a jet pressure ratio of roughly 10,500. The jets are staggered axially and circumferentially in such a way to produce pitch and yaw. The flowfield of such a jet configuration is characterized at several angles of attack and the corresponding force coefficients and amplification factors are provided. The freestream air and H2-O2 plume is treated as inert for the majority of the …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2010 - 2019
This study examines the influence of various facets of perceived risk on the attitudes toward really new services (RNS) and adoption intentions. Although there is considerable research examining perceived risk and consumer adoption of innovations, three aspects of the relationship have been neglected. First, much of the research on really new innovations is product-focused with little attention to services. Second, there is limited research examining perceived risk as a multidimensional construct. Third, consumer characteristics that affect the relationship between perceived risks and adoption intentions have not been included in most of the innovation studies. Thus, this study seeks to provide …

Research indicates that there are numerous factors related to dual language proficiency. Furthermore, research suggests that the language skills of bilingual children are very heterogeneous. In this study, we will focus on four outcomes for those receiving dual language input. Those four patterns of outcome are as follows: bilingual children can have high levels of skills in English and Spanish, high skills in English and low skills in the Spanish or vice versa, or low levels of skills in English and Spanish. The present study focused on the prevalence of these four patterns and their concurrent correlates amongst 30 month …
Output Stability Analysis For Nonlinear Systems With Time Delays, Kankanamalage Hasala Senpathy Gallolu
Output Stability Analysis For Nonlinear Systems With Time Delays, Kankanamalage Hasala Senpathy Gallolu
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2010 - 2019
Systems with time delays have a broad range of applications not only in control systems but also in many other disciplines such as mathematical biology, financial economics, etc. The time delays cause more complex behaviours of the systems. It requires more sophisticated analysis due to the infinite dimensional structure of the space spaces. In this thesis we investigate stability properties associated with output functions of delay systems. Our primary target is the equivalent Lyapunov characterization of input-tooutput stability (ios). A main approach used in this work is the Lyapuno Krasovskii functional method. The Lyapunov characterization of the so called output-Lagrange …
Plato And Shakespeare: The Influence Of Phaedrus And Symposium On A Midsummer Night’S Dream, Tahmina Begum Urmi
Plato And Shakespeare: The Influence Of Phaedrus And Symposium On A Midsummer Night’S Dream, Tahmina Begum Urmi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2010 - 2019
Many scholars who study Plato and Shakespeare together focus only on erotic love between lovers or nonsexual love between others. A closer study of A Midsummer Night’s Dream shows that Shakespeare uses Plato’s concepts of the soul in addition to the Forms, the guide, as well as staging the varieties of love that can exist between two individuals and the dangers of loving the physical more than the mind. Shakespeare takes these ideas embedded in Symposium and Phaedrus and not only crafts his play accordingly, but also creates his own versions through his unique interpretations. These alterations appear reflected in …
On Mutual Fund Family Diversification, Performance, Persistence And Flows, Margarita Kaprielyan
On Mutual Fund Family Diversification, Performance, Persistence And Flows, Margarita Kaprielyan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2010 - 2019
The first essay introduces a portfolio theory motivated approach to measuring mutual fund family-level diversification and hedging strategies. Diversification of idiosyncratic risk (systematic risk) is measured by the average cross-fund correlation in idiosyncratic returns (predicted returns from the multifactor model). Using new methodology, I find evidence of cross-sectional variation in family-level diversification and examine several fund families’ characteristics as the determinants of this crosssectional variation. On average, fund families that offer more objectives are more diversified in terms of both idiosyncratic and systematic risks; however, in the subsample of larger fund families, greater number of objectives is associated with increase …
Patterns For Enterprise Application Design And Development, Ruslan Rubis
Patterns For Enterprise Application Design And Development, Ruslan Rubis
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2010 - 2019
Designing and developing enterprise applications is a complex and resource intensive process, as it often must address thousands of requirements. At the same time, the software architecture of most enterprise applications at their core have many features and structures in common. Designers from different teams do not normally share design elements because of the competitive and proprietary nature of development, and enterprise applications design and development teams end up re-inventing the wheel when tackling a new product. My objective is to formulate new design patterns for enterprise application architectures that assist software architects with reusable solutions to improve design quality …

Plane-Wave Scattering Of A Periodic Corrugated Cylinder, Samuel Garcia
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2010 - 2019
In this dissertation, a novel approach to modeling the scattered field of a periodic corrugated cylinder, from an oblique incident planewave, is presented. The approach utilizes radial waveguide approximations for fields within the corrugations, which are point matched to approximated scattered fields outside of the corrugation to solve for the expansion coefficients. The point matching is done with TMz and TEz modes simultaneously, allowing for hybrid modes to exist. The derivation of the fields and boundary conditions used are discussed in detail. Axial and radial propagating modes for the scattered fields are derived and discussed. Close treatment is given to …
