South Commons: Assessing Contemporary Use And Envisioning New Users, Amanda Rees, Alexandria Ard, James Bennett, Kenya Davis, Christofer Gass, Erica Mehl, Steven Stannell

Columbus Community Geography Center

The Friends of South Commons requested CSU’s Columbus Community Geography Center assist in two projects. This project focused on two types of data related to South Commons. First, analyzing feedback from visitors to the Columbus Museum’s Common Grounds exhibition on the activities they wished to see on South Commons. Second, students collected baseline data to assess who is using South Commons for everyday active and passive use, what our team began to call “background.” From August to November 2017, the Columbus Community Geography Center’s (CCGC) urban geography team collected data to support community partners Friends of South Commons and the …

The article focuses on the speech by four scholars including Mary E. Beadle, Madeleine Liseblad and Mike Conway, delivered at the 2016 American Journalism Historians Association annual conference held in Saint Petersburg, Florida, on television news history research. Beadle discusses the lack of material in local television history research. Liseblad discusses the challenges and opportunities of television history research in Europe while Conway discusses access to historic broadcasts.

Traces, the South Central Kentucky Genealogical Society's quarterly newsletter, was first published in 1973. The Society changed its name in 2016 to the Barren County Historical Society. Abraham Ortelius and Johann Baptist Homann were very successful cartographers who benefitted from the rising trend in curiosity cabinets during the Renaissance. Ortelius lived from 1527-1598 and was born in Antwerp, Belgium, and Homann became famous in Nuremberg, Germany during his life from 1663-1724. [excerpt]

Aspect Comprehension And Processing In Narratives By Native Spanish Speakers, Hannah Riddle

School of Education and Leadership Student Capstone Theses and Dissertations

Aspect is fundamental to expressing time and sequence of events in narratives. In second language acquisition literature little is known about how English aspect is comprehended. This study manipulates aspect in narratives and compares comprehension of Spanish speakers to English and Arabic speakers. English and Spanish have morphosyntactic aspect, Arabic does not. This study examines aspect comprehension in 18 native Spanish speakers, using 16 narratives to capture moment-to-moment and off-line processing. Results show that Spanish speakers comprehend aspect more like English speakers in the moment-to-moment processing, where Arabic speakers do not.
