Drama And Sermon In Late Medieval England: Performance, Authority, Devotion, Charlotte Steenbrugge Nov 2017

Drama And Sermon In Late Medieval England: Performance, Authority, Devotion, Charlotte Steenbrugge

Early Drama, Art, and Music

This is the first full-length study of the interrelation between sermons and vernacular religious drama in late medieval England. It investigates how these genres worked as media for public learning, how they combined this didactic aim with literary exigencies, and how the plays in particular acquired and reflected a position of authority. The interrelation between sermons and vernacular drama, formerly assumed relatively uncritically to be a close one, is addressed from a variety of angles, including historical connections, performative aspects, and the portrayal of the sacrament of penance. The analysis challenges the common assumption that Middle English religious drama is …

To Heal, Escape: Using Theatre Arts To Promote Holistic Health In The Clinical Setting, John Filegar Nov 2017

To Heal, Escape: Using Theatre Arts To Promote Holistic Health In The Clinical Setting, John Filegar

Senior Honors Theses

The purpose of this thesis is to provide an argument for the implementation of theatre arts therapy in the clinical setting. The effects of traditional art therapies involving visual arts, expressive arts, and music on the holistic health of the patient in the clinical setting have been thoroughly researched and understood. However, the extent of the influence of theatre arts therapy on the holistic health of individuals in the clinical setting lacks sufficient evidence and therefore cannot be compared to the influence of traditional art therapies on the holistic health of individuals in the same setting. Following an overview on …

Large-Scale Flood Inundation Modeling In Data Sparse Environments Using Tandem-X Terrain Data, Joseph L. Gutenson, Michael L. Follum, Alan D. Snow, Mark D. Wahl Nov 2017

Large-Scale Flood Inundation Modeling In Data Sparse Environments Using Tandem-X Terrain Data, Joseph L. Gutenson, Michael L. Follum, Alan D. Snow, Mark D. Wahl

Open Water Journal

This paper demonstrates a workflow used by the U.S. Army Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory to quickly generate high-resolution flood inundation maps nearly anywhere in the world. Previous research illustrates that hindcast and forecast streamflow for nearly any river/stream in the world is possible by combining global runoff datasets from land surface models (LSMs) with hydrography datasets from hydrologically corrected global elevation datasets. Recent research has also shown that flood inundation estimates are possible through combining resulting streamflow estimates with high-resolution terrain and land cover data. This paper provides a detailed workflow of how near global flood inundation maps runoff data …

Hannibal And Scipio's War: The Second Punic War, Michael J. Elmore Nov 2017

Hannibal And Scipio's War: The Second Punic War, Michael J. Elmore

Honors College Theses

The Second Punic War (218-201 BC), setting Rome against its rival state Carthage, is remembered because of the strategic maneuverings between Hannibal of Carthage and Scipio of Rome which would determine the master of the Mediterranean, laying the ground works for eventual plans for empire. Rome would eventually beat Carthage and historians since antiquity have tried to understand how Rome did so. Nigel Bagnall, in his book on the second Punic war describes the war in its entirety, making it a good overview. Polybius, a source written during the time of the Third Punic War, is one of the main …
