Wrigley Field, The Trademark, Benjamin J. Welch

Pace Intellectual Property, Sports & Entertainment Law Forum

This paper is about the theory of applying the law of trade dress and all the protections that come with it to stadiums, specifically to Wrigley Field, home of Major League Baseball’s Chicago Cubs. Trade dress is the version of trademark reserved for the packaging, design, or color of products. If the packaging, design, or color possesses the ability to identify the source or creator of the product, then it can create a possessory interest in the product’s creator for that style of packaging, design of the product, or color used. This possessory interest is used to protect the reputation …

Identity Discovery And Verification In Artist- Entrepreneurs: An Active Learning Exercise, A. Erin Bass

Marketing and Management Faculty Publications

Entrepreneurship curricula are becoming increasingly more interdisciplinary, with higher education institutions offering a variety of “entrepreneurship and” courses that cross the boundaries into other fields. Despite this, many entrepreneurship curricula are centered on business theory, which is not suitable for nonbusiness students. For example, business students are trained to define success by financial statements and organizational viability, whereas artists enjoy success by achieving creative satisfaction. This article explores the importance of identity to the entrepreneurial process, highlighting the similarities and differences between the artist and entrepreneur identities. Pedagogical in approach, the article demonstrates the utility of an active learning exercise …

This article will discuss the advantages of work experience and provide a concrete example of one programme attended by third year students as part of the Special Populations module of Sports Management and Coaching Course. ITB, in a unique partnership with Fingal County Council Sports …

Collegiate Football Attendance In El Paso: 1967-2014*, Thomas M. Fullerton Jr., Wesley A. Miller

Border Region Modeling Project

This study examines potential determinants of American football game attendance for the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Miners program. Time series data are utilized to analyze UTEP attendance from 1967 to 2014. Parameter estimation is carried out using two-staged least squares regression analysis. Among the more notable outcomes, ticket sales are not strongly affected by the local business cycle and are not inversely correlated with unemployment. Demand for tickets is also found to be upward sloping. Forecasts are generated for the 2015 season and several quantitative metrics indicate that good out-of-sample simulation performance is attained. Replication of this …

Cultural Factors Influencing Chinese Residents And Students’ Views On Solar Photovoltaic Rooftop Adoption, Ashleigh Bell

Honors Program Theses and Projects

With a large focus on global warming, the idea of using solar energy has become popular worldwide. However, the adoption rate of solar energy in China is relatively low in comparison to the sizeable quantities of solar Photovoltaic (PV) products produced in the nation. By using Hofstede’s six cultural dimensions (Hofstede & Minkov, 2013) this paper investigated cultural factors and their impact on solar adoption based on the responses of surveys. This research used primary data collected from both Chinese residents and Chinese college students in the major cities: Shanghai and Beijing, China and secondary sources to examine the cultural …

The Moderating Effect Of Country Of Origin On Athlete Brand Equity, Bo Yu

Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs

Athlete endorsement industry continues to expand fast. Reports argued country of origin could be a cue to explain the endorsement gap among athletes from different nations. The conceptual model from Arai et al (2013; 2014) on athlete brand equity is adopted in this study.

This study adopts GDP per capita as the instrument to measure the market size of country of origin, and relies on data from Openhorse and Forbes on the Top 100 Highest paid athletes …

Putting The Athletic Back In The Trainer, Shelby L. Davis May 2017

Putting The Athletic Back In The Trainer, Shelby L. Davis

Honors Theses

Athletic Training Students are taught about the benefits of physical activity and how to create specific exercise programs to maintain overall wellness. Although athletic training students have knowledge about the positive effects of physical activity, they continually score lower on activity level scales when compared with the average college student. A rigorous course schedule and long clinical hours seem to be a common factor that play into the poor health habits of the athletic training student. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the variables that negatively affect the exercise habits of undergraduate athletic training students.

Using Sport As A Global Change Agent: The United Nations Model Of Sport For Development, Meghan Burke

Senior Honors Projects, 2010-2019

Since 2001, the United Nations (UN) has used sport as a development tool through the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP). This paper examines the issues in the Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) movement that warranted the UN’s involvement and looks at how and why the UN uses sport. It will also offer recommendations on how it can continue to do so in a more sustainable way. Academics have struggled to find a way to measure the success of the SDP movement and the only evidence that exists that shows that sport is creating long-term …
