The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
Modern social work values and practice competencies establish the foundation from which social work educators teach future practitioners much needed knowledge and skills for competent practice. The profession’s two major organizations provide the platform upon which this paper was crafted. The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) provides the profession’s Code of Ethics, which presents the values and ethical principles guiding social work practice; the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) provides the competency-based framework for social work education. Through the ages, the Bible has presented guidelines regarding: working with the poor and other vulnerable populations in their social context, …

Background
Existing literature suggests that endocrine measures, including the steroid hormones of cortisol and Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), as well as the DHEA to cortisol ratio in the human hair can be used as promising biomarkers of chronic stress among humans. However, data are limited regarding the validity of these measures as biomarkers of chronic stress among people living with HIV (PLWH), whose endocrine system or hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis may be affected by HIV infection and/or antiretroviral therapy (ART) medications.
Method
Using hair sample data and self-reported survey from 60 PLWH in China, we examined the validity of three endocrine …

An Interview With Charles Holton, Prasad Hurra, Zalak Raval
Emory Business Law Review
Many important economic indices show that the economy has improved markedly under the Obama administration, but, there are communities that are still struggling with loss of jobs and housing. Courts are seeing an increased number of eviction cases presenting some very serious concerns, particularly for the tenants. However, the evictions can be reduced, and educating the judges, tenants and landlords is the first step. The struggling tenants can seek public funding or legal aid available in their counties that provide alternatives to eviction, but unfortunately, the cutbacks in funding to legal aid organizations have affected many states of late. On …

Economic Evaluation Of Pcsk9 Inhibitors In Reducing Cardiovascular Risk From Health System And Private Payer Perspectives, Emir Veledar, Khurram Nasir
Economic Evaluation Of Pcsk9 Inhibitors In Reducing Cardiovascular Risk From Health System And Private Payer Perspectives, Emir Veledar, Khurram Nasir
All Publications
The introduction of Proprotein covertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors has been heralded as a major advancement in reducing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels by nearly 50%. However, concerns have been raised on the added value to the health care system in terms of their costs and benefits. We assess the cost-effectiveness of PCSK9 inhibitors based on a decision-analytic model with existing clinical evidence. The model compares a lipid-lowering therapy based on statin plus PCSK9 inhibitor treatment with statin treatment only (standard therapy). From health system perspective, incremental cost per quality adjusted life years (QALYs) gained are presented. From a private …

Coordination Of Care: Strategies, Lessons, & Implications, Danette Y. Wall
Dissertations
Care Coordination was identified as a fundamental process that can decrease care fragmentation. IOM and ANA identified Registered Nurses as capable of spearheading care coordination initiatives that will close the gap. It is well established that professional nurse environments positively affects nurse and patient outcomes, or conversely is a barrier when not present. A professional practice environment serves to facilitate care coordination (Duva, 2010).
Expanding this work, using Donebedian's SPO Framework, this quality improvement project examined the relationship between the care coordinators work environment and the work processes of care coordination.

Dartmouth Scholarship
Introduction: Including the patient or user perspective is a central organising principle of integrated care. Moreover, there is increasing recognition of the importance of strengthening relationships among patients, carers and practitioners, particularly for individuals receiving substantial health and care support, such as those with long-term or multiple conditions. The overall aims of this synthesis are to provide a context-relevant understanding of how models to facilitate shared decision-making (SDM) might work for older people with multiple health and care needs, and how they might be applied to integrated care models.
Methods and analysis: The synthesis draws on the principles of realist …

A Mindful Moral Compass For Twenty-First Century Leadership: The Noble Eightfold Path, Joan Marques
The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
Marques reviews contemporary leaders in business, human rights advocacy, and social entrepreneur circles as examples of individuals who have channeled their efforts to guide their careers in a sustainable and morally responsible manner within the context of the ancient “Noble Eightfold Path,”— a core Buddhist philosophy. Applied to a secular world, Marques further identifies, explains, and applies the eight elements of the Path as a model for modern-day leadership.

Providing effective counseling interventions means creating a therapeutic alliance through active listening. Clinicians who treat trauma survivors are frequently exposed to graphic details of the traumatic events, and in a sense absorb, this information disclosed. This secondhand exposure to traumatic events can impact clinician’s personal and professional functioning. This paper aims and discussing the various encounters a counselor may experience when working with trauma survivors; as well as, various strategies to help improve health and wellness within the work environment, education, and personally.

Addressing Adverse Childhood Experiences (Aces) In The School Setting, Katlyn Trumm
Addressing Adverse Childhood Experiences (Aces) In The School Setting, Katlyn Trumm
Counselor Education Capstones
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are traumas such as abuse, neglect, or household dysfunction which occurred between the ages of birth to eighteen years old (Felitti et al., 1998). Adverse childhood experiences have been analyzed in the past few decades in relation to stress, trauma, and development. Children can begin to fall behind in school as well as in life stages due to high levels of ACEs within their lives. This paper contains information about the impact ACEs can have on a person’s health, development, and well-being. For students within a school, ACEs can be inhibiting them to focus on school, …
