An Investigation Into The Indicators Of A Successful Total Force Association, Greg E. Hoyt
An Investigation Into The Indicators Of A Successful Total Force Association, Greg E. Hoyt
Theses and Dissertations
The Air Force, since adopting and subsequently developing the Total Force concept in the early 1970s, has not thoroughly outlined clear objectives by which the progress toward and realization of this strategic vision should be defined and measured. Without clear definition, direction, and method of evaluation, the ability to credibly claim any subsequent successes or failures in the pursuit of this vision become vulnerable to challenge. Indeed, the mere claim that a single, clear vision exists may be challenged. The Total Force concepts degree of success has, on multiple occasions through its history, been critiqued with the most recent instance …

The Air Force Fitness Test: Creating New Fitness Assessment Charts Using Waist To Height Ratios, John R. Griffith
Theses and Dissertations
The Air Force currently uses AFI 36-2905 for fitness standards and evaluation, but no study to our knowledge has evaluated these standards using large databases. Using a 5.38 million record database from the Air Force Fitness Management System, we evaluated how the abdominal circumference, body mass index (BMI), waist to height ratio (WtHR), and height to weight ratio correlated to fitness as assessed by the 1.5 mile aerobic run in the Air Force Fitness Test. Whether individually or adjusting for age group and gender, WtHR performed better that the rest with an average rank score of 1.1 with a relative …

Interest-Based Bargaining: Changing Employer-Employee Relations At Youngstown State University, Patrick W. Carlton
Public Policy and Leadership Faculty Research
This study is based upon interviews conducted with over two dozen individuals centrally involved with the collective bargaining movement at Youngstown State University of Ohio. (YSU) The experiences and memories of several participants extend back to the 1960’s, at which time they were newly appointed faculty members. Within the group are several retired persons who spoke from the comfortable position of relative political invulnerability. Others were at the time of their interviews actively engaged in university teaching and administration. Initial interviews concerning the newly-established Interest-based bargaining process took place within eight months of the negotiatory events, well before the “ravages …

A Development Evaluation Study Of A Professional Development Initiative To Strengthen Organizational Conditions In Early Education Settings, Samuel P. Whalen Phd, Heather L. Horsley Phd, Kathleen K. Parkinson Med, Debra Pacchiano Phd
Journal of Applied Research on Children: Informing Policy for Children at Risk
High quality instruction is essential to producing developmental gains for young children and can mitigate risk factors such as family poverty and low parental education. Even in programs with highly qualified teachers, teacher-child interactions often do not provide the level of instructional support that children need to be well-prepared for success in kindergarten. In order to improve instructional quality, an emerging focus on early childhood professional development involves supporting leaders in creating a web of supports for teacher learning and child growth. The purpose of the 3-year evaluation study was to assess the effectiveness of an Early Childhood Education Professional …

3d Design Models To Construction (Data Centric Approach), Michael Jenkins, Andrew Pangallo, Derek Fuller
Purdue Road School
One aspect of e-Construction is reducing paper use, and many DOTs have successfully reduced their use of paper documents. INDOT wants to take this further by adding a data-centric approach, which focuses on the transfer of data from 3D design models to construction and then to asset management. In this presentation we discuss this initiative.

Characterizing Exceptional Superintendent Leadership In Ethnically And Economically Diverse School Districts, Nicholas Henkle
Theses and Dissertations
This study examined ‘exceptional’ superintendent leadership in ethnically and economically diverse school districts. The purpose of the study was to use comparative case studies to better understand the beliefs and strategies these proven leaders employ to positively impact achievement and close the opportunity gap for students in ethnically and economically diverse school districts. The study examined three superintendents from the state of Illinois with respect to their philosophy, identified district strengths, culturally responsive attitudes and actions, leadership style, core beliefs, direct impact on students, and decision-making process to identify commonalities and differences that exist.
Culturally responsive leadership was the theoretical …
Hbcus: Accreditation, Governance And Survival Challenges In An Ever-Increasing Competition For Funding And Students, Jerry Crawford Ii
Hbcus: Accreditation, Governance And Survival Challenges In An Ever-Increasing Competition For Funding And Students, Jerry Crawford Ii
Journal of Research Initiatives
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are facing challenges to their continued existence on several fronts. One is fiscally, as federal funding for education has been cut and the responsibility for paying for higher education has been levied on students and parents. Another challenge is the amount of endowment dollars available to them and lastly, there are questions today as to if HBCUs are still needed in a society that has allowed African-Americans to enroll in Predominantly White Institutions (PWIs). Both of these challenges are contingent on the most critical issue – accreditation. The loss of accreditation of units and …

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
Session presented on Saturday, March 18, 2017:
Health care is typified by change. Organizational changes have a negative impact on nurses and the effects of organizational change is being overlooked and under researched (Delmatoff & Lazarus, 2014; McMillian & Perron, 2013). Change in an organization leads to increased sick time, work disability, loss of productivity, organizational commitment, increased turnover rates (Bernerth, Walker, & Harris, 2011), stress (McMillian & Perron, 2013), emotional exhaustion (Manzano Garcio & Ayale Calvo, 2012), and change fatigue (Bernerth et al., 2011; McMillan & Perron, 2013). Change fatigue is a result of constant organizational change and has …

Do We Need A New Approach To Christian Leadership Development?, Erich Baumgartner
Do We Need A New Approach To Christian Leadership Development?, Erich Baumgartner
Journal of Applied Christian Leadership
"Going back to christian leadership, there are christian leaders needed today that have the courage to reexamine the mission of God here on earth for christian organizations and churches. Such leaders often realize there is something new that is needed. the outcome, however, is not always clear, and it takes dedication of the whole team before the desired outcome appears. that is, in my opinion, one of the most important leadership qualities to which to aspire. It demands a different kind of leadership development process that is not only based on classes and books, but that is based on processes …

Clinical Performance Measures And Quality Improvement System Considerations For Dental Education, Joseph W. Parkinson, Gregory G. Zeller
Oral Health Practice Faculty Publications
Quality improvement and quality assurance programs are an integral part of providing excellence in health care delivery. The Dental Quality Alliance and the Commission on Dental Accreditation recognize this and have created standards and recommendations to advise health care providers and health care delivery systems, including dental schools, on measuring the quality of the care delivered to patients. Overall health care expenditures have increased, and the Affordable Care Act has made health care, including dentistry, available to more people in the United States. These increases in cost and in the number of patients accessing care contribute to a heightened interest …

Competing tensions and demands pervade our work lives. Accumulating research examines organizational and leadership approaches to leveraging these tensions. But what about individuals within firms? Although early paradox theory built upon micro-level insights from psychology and philosophy to understand the nature and management of varied competing demands, corresponding empirical studies are rare, offering scarce insights into why some individuals thrive with tensions while others struggle. In response, we contribute to the microfoundations of organizational paradox with a theoretical model and robust measures that help unpack individuals' varied approaches to tensions. Following rigorous scale development in Study 1, including samples from …

Strategic Implementation Of Open Educational Resources In Higher Education Institutions, Eulho Jung, Christine Bauer, Allan Heaps
University Author Recognition Bibliography: 2017
Higher education institutions have been playing a pivotal role in the emergence and elaboration of the Open Educational Resources (OER) movement. Initially, pioneering institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have led the conceptualization of OER, providing models of sustainable initiatives. Following the forerunners, many other institutions started their own OER initiatives to help achieve affordable and equal education. Unfortunately, however, several OER initiatives have experienced failed efforts, making minimal impact. This article studies previous OER efforts and articulates the process, principles, and anticipated outcomes based on critical lessons learned from these higher education institutions. Informed by a …

Improving Assessment Of Race, Ethnicity, And Culture To Further Veteran Ptsd Research., Jane M. Onoye, Michele Spoont, Julia M. Whealin, Nnamdi Pole, Margaret Anne Mackintosh, James L. Spira, Leslie A. Morland
Psychology: Faculty Publications
Objective: Racial and ethnic disparities in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and its treatment have been documented for both civilians and military veterans. To better understand the presence of disparities and factors that might contribute to them, accurate assessment of race and ethnicity is critical; however there still remains unstandardized assessment and challenges to implementation. The authors highlight specific problems in the assessment of race and ethnicity in research, such as missing data, misclassification, classification categories too limited to reflect many peoples' social identities, and inappropriate aggregation of ethnoracial subgroups. Conclusions: A proposal is made for a minimal uniform assessment standard …
