Diabetes is a highly prevalent chronic disease among US adults, and its prevalence among US veterans is even higher. This study aimed to examine the prevalence of and trends in diabetes in US veterans by using data from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2005 through 2014. The overall prevalence of diabetes and undiagnosed diabetes was 20.5% and 3.4%, respectively, and increased from 15.5% in 2005–2006 to 20.5% in 2013–2014 (P = .04). Effective prevention and intervention approaches are needed to lower diabetes prevalence among US veterans and ultimately improve their health status.

Animal Welfare: A Contemporary Understanding Demands A Contemporary Approach To Behavior And Training, E. Anne Mcbride, David J. Montgomery
People and Animals: The International Journal of Research and Practice
Contemporary understanding of One Welfare highlights the intrinsic link between animal and human welfare and ethics, regarding physical and psychological well-being as equally important. These principles apply to all animals we keep, regardless of why we keep them. One factor influencing psychological welfare is how animals are prepared for their life, including how they are taught (trained) to behave. Where such preparation is lacking or inappropriate methods are used, animals will be fearful and/or frustrated, resulting in impaired welfare, problematic behavior, and potential injury to humans and other animals. How animals are trained and by whom are the focus of …
Women And Eating: Cognitive Dissonance Versus Self-Perception Theory
Women And Eating: Cognitive Dissonance Versus Self-Perception Theory
Intuition: The BYU Undergraduate Journal of Psychology
Eating attitudes and eating beliefs in females might be explained by cognitive dissonance (conforming beliefs to match behaviors) or self-perception theory (beliefs inferred by behaviors). A sample of 129 female undergraduates, divided into three groups, were taken to see if the food they ate affected their attitude towards food or body image. A healthy food group consisted of low calorie foods, a junk food group consisted of high calorie foods, and a control group was given no food. Participants completed the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT) and Body Image Scale (BIS). There were no differences between groups on BIS (p=0.60), suggesting …

Obesity And Diabetes: Evaluating The Impact Of Promotores As A Prevention And Intervention Strategy In The Latino Community, Jessica Castaneda
Master's Projects and Capstones
This paper aims to examine obesity and diabetes among the Latino population as a health problem. As the largest minority racial group in the U.S, Latino rates of obesity and diabetes are greatly higher than whites. The prevalence of obesity in Latinos is 45% compared to that of whites at 34.5% (CDC, 2015). The disproportionate rates at which Latinos are affected by obesity and diabetes have prompted numerous programs to combat this health problem. Promotores or Latino community health workers have been able to provide the important piece of culturally and linguistically appropriate education for the population. Evidence shows Promotores …

Myxosporidiosis In Oreochromis Niloticus; Molecular Identification And Oxidative Stress Biomarkers, Nevien Abdelkhalek, M. El-Adl, M. Hamed, M. Al-Araby
Mansoura Veterinary Medical Journal
Myxosporidiosisis a protozoan parasitic fish disease that causes damages to fish organs and might eventually end with mortalities and deterioration of meat quality of the affected fish. The presence of parasitic infestation is usually accompanied with the production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species that produces extra damage to host organs and inactivation of antioxidant defense system that increase the intensity of parasitic infestation. Recently, the response of the infested tissue to oxidative stress is varieddepending on the type of parasite; therefore the use of oxidative stress markers as indicator for myxobolus infestation is relevant. In the present study, Oreochromis …
