Diagnosis And Treatment Of Celiac Disease, Harini Oktadiana, Murdani Abdullah, Kaka Renaldi
Jurnal Penyakit Dalam Indonesia
Celiac disease is a reversible, proximal immune enteropathy resulting from the interaction of dietary gluten with the intestinal immune system. Celiac disease can produce varied manifestations and may develop at any age. New cases have increased substantially, due to increase awareness and better diagnostic tools. Standard diagnosis of celiac disease is based on positive serologic tests and histopathologic examination of duodenal biopsies. Treatment of celiac disease with free gluten diet will improve symptoms, quality of life, reduce risk of malignancy and complication. Nowadays, treatment strategy of celiac disease with non-dietary therapies is still underdevelopment.

School of Medicine Publications
Background
Maternal exposure to environmental stressors poses a risk to fetal development. Oxidative stress (OS), microglia activation, and inflammation are three tightly linked mechanisms that emerge as a causal factor of neurodevelopmental anomalies associated with prenatal ethanol exposure. Antioxidants such as glutathione (GSH) and CuZnSOD are perturbed, and their manipulation provides evidence for neuroprotection. However, the cellular and molecular effects of GSH alteration in utero on fetal microglia activation and inflammation remain elusive.
Methods
Ethanol (EtOH) (2.5 g/kg) was administered to pregnant mice at gestational days 16–17. One hour prior to ethanol treatment, N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and L-buthionine sulfoximine (BSO) …

The Relationship Between Chronic Health Conditions And Health Literacy, Resiliency And Support/Self-Advocacy In Youth, Mercedes N. Cambric
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Over the past several decades the number of youth living with a chronic health condition has drastically increased. A chronic health condition can be defined as an illness that lasts three months or more that can be controlled but not cured (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2010). Although there is existing literature on youth with chronic health conditions, there are very few studies that examine the levels of health literacy, resiliency and support/advocacy within this population. The current study is a secondary analysis that utilized data collected from the 37-item Youth Health Literacy and Resiliency Scale (HLRS-Y version) …

Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Money has frequently been used as an extrinsic motivator since it is assumed that humans are willing to invest more effort for financial reward. However, the influence of a monetary reward on pacing and performance in trained athletes is not well-understood. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyse the influence of a monetary reward in well-trained cyclists on their pacing and performance during short and long cycling time trials (TT). Twentythree cyclists (6 ♀, 17 ♂) completed 4 self-paced time trials (TTs, 2 short: 4 km and 6 min; 2 long: 20 km and 30 min); in a …

A Systems Biology Approach To The Development Of Commercial Bioprocesses: 1,4-Butanediol And Beyond, Stephen Van Dien
Amgen Seminar Series in Chemical Engineering
Production of biobased chemicals by fermentation at competitive titer, rate, and yield involves optimizing the cellular resources normally devoted to biomass formation and directing them towards product formation. Systems and synthetic biology tools are the key to surmounting these challenges. As an example success of this approach, Genomatica has developed a complete bioprocess for commercial scale production of 1,4-butanediol (BDO) from carbohydrate feedstocks. BDO is a chemical intermediate (> 3B lbs/yr) that goes into a variety of products including automotive parts and apparel, and is currently produced commercially through energy-intensive petrochemical processes. Systems biology, diagnostic ‘omics’ experiments, and novel synthetic …

Enzyme Engineering XXIV
It is well known that the composition of human breast milk differs significantly from the one of ordinary bovine milk. Especially the presence of sialylated and fucosylated oligosaccharides contributes to its health and development promoting features for newborn infants. [1] Nevertheless, not all newborns and especially premature infants sometimes cannot be breast fed for different reasons. For those children it is important that they receive a proper balanced formula product containing the above mentioned human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). With respect to this we are developing new enzymatic routes for synthesis of sialylated and fucosylated oligosaccharides, which can be used as …
