Homosexuality As Haram: An Examination Of The Effects Of Gender, Contact, And Religiosity On Sexual Prejudice In Muslim College Students, Amanda T. Yeck
Homosexuality As Haram: An Examination Of The Effects Of Gender, Contact, And Religiosity On Sexual Prejudice In Muslim College Students, Amanda T. Yeck
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The present study examined how gender, contact, and religiosity influence sexual prejudice in Muslims. Given that the preponderance of research examining attitudes toward gay men and lesbian women has been conducted with Judeo-Christian populations, research exploring sexual prejudice in Muslim individuals is warranted. Social Identity Theory was used as a theoretical framework to explore these factors, as sexual prejudice has been linked with both gender role and moral transgressions. The final sample consisted of 166 heterosexual Muslims, and 12 non-heterosexual Muslims collected through a snowball sample. Participants completed the Multidimensional Scale of Attitudes Toward Lesbians and Gay Men, the Santa …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
An efficient, convenient, and environmentally benign procedure for the synthesis of novel benzo[$a$]chromeno[2,3-$c$]phenazine derivatives has been developed by domino four-component condensation reaction between 2-hydroxynaphtha- lene-1,4-dione, $o-$phenylenediamine, aromatic aldehydes, and naphthols or phenol in the presence of a catalytic amount of DABCO as an expedient, ecofriendly, and reusable base catalyst under microwave irradiation in EtOH/H$_{2}$O (1:1). This green process produces biologically and pharmacologically significant heterocycles in a single one-pot operation and offers considerable advantages such as operational simplicity, short reaction time, high yields, reusability of the catalyst, absence of any tedious workup or purification, and avoidance of hazardous reagents/solvents.

An Exploration Of Emotional Intelligence In Victim-Survivors Of Intimate Partner Violence, Terri L. Ratliff
An Exploration Of Emotional Intelligence In Victim-Survivors Of Intimate Partner Violence, Terri L. Ratliff
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Despite decades of preventive education and services for intimate partner violence, such violence continues. Studies have shown mixed evidence regarding the effectiveness of current treatment options and prevention remains paramount. If victims seek therapy, the focus is typically on a single diagnosis, such as depression or post-traumatic stress disorder, rather than cause-and-effect. Emotional intelligence in abusers of intimate partner violence has been tested and studied. There is literature on victims, but they are rare, regional, and examined only female participants resulting in conflicting findings. There is a gap in research in the review of the nuances of emotional intelligence in …

Understanding Of Phenolic Compound Retention Mechanisms On Pes-Uf Membrane, Amine Mnif, Meral Mouelhi, Bechir Hamrouni
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Ultrafiltration (UF) is investigated as a possible alternative to remove organic compounds from aqueous synthetic solution. This paper presents a comprehensive study towards a better understanding of phenolic compound retention mechanisms during UF processes. Thus, removal of phenol and resorcinol was studied using a polyethersulfone ultrafiltration (PES-UF) membrane. The influence of main operating conditions (feed concentration, transmembrane pressure, and pH) on the retention was evaluated. Membrane--solute interactions were found to play an important role during the process, suggesting the adsorption of the target compounds on the PES-UF membrane. The level of adsorption was consequently evaluated by measuring the quantity of …

Highly Selective Schiff Base Derivatives For Colorimetric Detection Of Al$^{3+}$, Zi̇ya Aydin, Mustafa Keleş
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Schiff base derivatives NBAR and NSAR were developed for selective detection of Al$^{3+}$ in aqueous solution. UV-vis spectroscopic studies revealed that NBAR and NSAR showed marked sensitivity and selectivity to Al$^{3+}$ in acetonitrile (ACN)/water (v/v, 1:1, pH 6.80). The NBAR and NSAR receptors bound Al$^{3+}$ in a 2:1 stoichiometry with apparent binding constants 4.09 $\times $ 10$^{11}$ M$^{-2}$ and 1.65 $\times $ 10$^{12}$ M$^{-2}$, respectively. They also displayed distinct changes in color upon the alteration of free Al$^{3+}$ levels in solution with reversible responses and showed little interference with other metal ions.
