Well Integrity Assessment Of Monitoring Wells At An Active Co2-Eor Flood, Andrew Duguid, Boyun Guo, Runar Nygaard
Well Integrity Assessment Of Monitoring Wells At An Active Co2-Eor Flood, Andrew Duguid, Boyun Guo, Runar Nygaard
Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Assessment of well integrity has become more important for CCS and CO2-EOR as it has become apparent that wells represent the most likely migration pathway for CO2 to leave a CCS storage unit or a CO2-EOR reservoir. Although wells represent a migration pathway, they are also the best vehicle for employing technology monitoring CO2 injection and storage. This contradiction of being a potential migration path and key monitoring technology leads to a need to understand how monitoring wells may be similar or different in comparison to other types of wells with respect to migration …

Analysis Of Ior Pilots In Bakken Formation By Using Numerical Simulation, Dheiaa Alfarge, Mingzhen Wei, Baojun Bai, Mortadha Alsaba
Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Bakken is the most productive formation among unconventional plays in North America. This formation has 7.4 billion barrels of recoverable oil. However, the primary oil recovery is still low as 5-10%. Miscible natural gas and carbon dioxide (CO2) might be the most two potential strategies to improve oil recovery in such complex play. In this study, some of the IOR pilots which have been conducted in Montana, North Dakota, and South Saskatchewan have been presented. The performance results of these pilots in US-Bakken versus Canadian-Bakken have been compared. Moreover, the reasons beyond the successful IOR pilots in Canadian-Bakken …

Integrating Microgels And Low Salinity Waterflooding To Improve Conformance Control In Fractured Reservoirs, Ali Alhuraishawy, Mingzhen Wei, Baojun Bai, Abdullah Almansour
Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The recovery from fractured reservoirs is usually low. The areal heterogeneity is one result of the fractured reservoir. Low salinity waterflooding (LSWF) and preformed particle gel (PPG) have recently investigated by some researchers. The main objective of this study was to determine whether the combining technologies can improve conformance control in fractured sandstone reservoirs. Semi-transparent five-spot models made of sandstone cores and acrylic plates were built. The effect of low salinity waterflooding on oil recovery was studied. Models were designed with three parallel open fractures. Sodium chloride (1.0, 0.1, 0.01, and 0.001 wt. % NaCl) were used for brine flooding …
Updated Criterion To Select Particle Size Distribution Of Lost Circulation Materials For An Effective Fracture Sealing, Mortadha Alsaba, Mohammed F. Al Dushaishi, Runar Nygaard, Olav Magnar Nes, Arild Saasen
Updated Criterion To Select Particle Size Distribution Of Lost Circulation Materials For An Effective Fracture Sealing, Mortadha Alsaba, Mohammed F. Al Dushaishi, Runar Nygaard, Olav Magnar Nes, Arild Saasen
Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
This paper presents a new criterion to select particle size distribution (PSD) for an effective fracture sealing. The method was developed based on a comprehensive laboratory investigation that was conducted to determine the relationship between effectiveness of different lost circulation material (LCM) treatments in terms of the sealing efficiency and PSD. The results were compared with the current selection methods, which were developed to enhance the bridging capabilities for drill-in fluid, to investigate their applicability in designing effective treatments for fracture sealing. A statistical investigation was carried out to develop new criteria that suggest PSD based on the expected fracture …
Unbundling Freedom In The Sharing Economy, Deepa Das Acevedo
Unbundling Freedom In The Sharing Economy, Deepa Das Acevedo
Articles
Courts and scholars point to the sharing economy as the most recent proof that our labor amp employment infrastructure is obsolete because it rests on a narrow and outmoded idea"”namely that only workers subjected to direct personalized control by their employers need workrelated protections and benefits Since they diagnose the problem as being our system's emphasis on control these critics have long called for reducing or eliminating the primacy of the "control test" in classifying workers as either protected employees or unprotected independent contractors Despite these persistent criticisms however the concept of control has been remarkably sticky in scholarly and …

Case Law, Adam N. Steinman
Case Law, Adam N. Steinman
Articles
Although case law plays a crucial role in the American legal system surprisingly little consensus exists on how to determine the "law" that any given "case" generates Lawyers judges and scholars regularly note the difference between holdings and dicta and between necessary and unnecessary parts of a precedentsetting decision but such concepts have eluded coherent application in practice There remains considerable uncertainty about which aspects of a judicial decision impose prospective legal obligations as a matter of stare decisis and to what extentThis Article develops a counterintuitive but productive way to conceptualize case law the lawmaking content of a judicial …

Europe's Moral Margin: Parental Aspirations And The European Court Of Human Rights, Clare Ryan
Europe's Moral Margin: Parental Aspirations And The European Court Of Human Rights, Clare Ryan
Articles
The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) balances along two axes: individual right vs. government interest and national vs. supranational judgment. The Court calibrates the level of deference it affords States through the margin of appreciation, a doctrine designed to vary how strictly the supranational court will scrutinize national decisions. This Article challenges the way in which the Court deploys margin of appreciation in order to defer to "sensitive moral and ethical" decisions taken by domestic institutions. I call this deference the "moral margin." Although the European Convention on Human Rights explicitly authorizes the Court to take "protection of morals" …

Effectiveness Of Peers In Delivering Programs Or Motivating Older People To Increase Their Participation In Physical Activity: Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Elissa Burton, Kaela Farrier, Keith Hill, James Codde, Phil Airey, Anne-Marie Hill
Health Sciences Papers and Journal Articles
The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the effectiveness of peers to deliver programs or encourage older people to be physically active and improve physical outcomes. Peer reviewed articles published in English between January 1976 and June 2016, retrieved from six databases according to the predefined inclusion criteria were included. Where possible results were pooled and meta-analyses conducted. Eighteen articles were included in the review, a total of 3,492 intervention participants, average age 66.5 years and 67.1% were female. Overall, study quality was medium to high. Interventions mainly included resistance, flexibility and cardiovascular training, however there …
