A new troglobitic harvestman, Relictopiolus galadriel gen. nov et sp. nov., is described from Olhos d’Água cave, Itacarambi, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Morphological characters, including male genitalia and exomorphology, suggest that this species belongs to the family Kimulidae, and it appears to share the greatest similarities with Tegipiolus pachypus. Bayesian inference analyses of a molecular dataset strongly support the inclusion of this species in Kimulidae and confirm the hypothesized sister-group relationship between R. galadriel and T. pachypus. A time calibrated phylogeny indicates that these sister-taxa diverged from a common ancestor approximately 40 Mya, during the Paleogene. The current range of …

Discovery Of A Rich Gene Pool Of Bat Sars-Related Coronaviruses Provides New Insights Into The Origin Of Sars Coronavirus, Ben Hu, Lei-Ping Zeng, Xing-Lou Yang
KIP Articles
A large number of SARS-related coronaviruses (SARSr-CoV) have been detected in horseshoe bats since 2005 in different areas of China. However, these bat SARSr-CoVs show sequence differences from SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV) in different genes (S, ORF8, ORF3, etc) and are considered unlikely to represent the direct progenitor of SARS-CoV. Herein, we report the findings of our 5-year surveillance of SARSr-CoVs in a cave inhabited by multiple species of horseshoe bats in Yunnan Province, China. The full-length genomes of 11 newly discovered SARSr-CoV strains, together with our previous findings, reveals that the SARSr-CoVs circulating in this single location are highly diverse …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Two binary logistic regression analyses were conducted across survey data from 254 master's-level graduates to answer research questions about predicting Willingness to Give to their graduate alma mater and predicting Actual Alumni Giving behavior to their graduate alma mater. The predictor variables are dimensions from the community of inquiry theoretical framework (Social, Teaching, and Cognitive Presences), Gender, Graduation Age, Location of classes (onsite or online), State (in state or out of state), and Past Giving to Higher Education. The results of the Willingness to Give analysis indicate that the variables used in the regression equation are not statistically significant on …

Perceptions Related To Ongoing Preceptor Support, Megan Donnally
General Submissions: Presentations (Oral and Poster)
Nurse preceptors play a pivotal role in the success of new nurses' transition into practice (Haggerty et al., 2012). Contributing factors rely on the criteria of preceptor selection, education, recognition, and leadership support (Haggerty et al., 2012). Literature review suggests that preceptor development and support relies heavily on leadership support, however, there has been limited published research that has assessed nurse leader perceptions of preceptor selection criteria, education, support, and recognition.
NPD Specialists recognized an opportunity to improve their organization's preceptor program after receiving current preceptor program participant evaluations and reviewing other preceptor programs in the literature.

The Influence Of Talker Expectations And Acoustic Variability On Speech Perception In Asd, Anders Hogstrom
The Influence Of Talker Expectations And Acoustic Variability On Speech Perception In Asd, Anders Hogstrom
Master's Theses
Speech perception is dependent upon the ability to map the sensory features of a speech signal onto the perceptual features which make up language (i.e., phonemes). A great deal of research over the past six decades has focused on how variability across talkers influences speech processing. Listeners are required to normalize the acoustic variability across talkers by continuously updating the mapping from the acoustic signal to phonetic representations. As such, processing speech from multiple talkers is cognitively more demanding than listening to a single talker. This processing cost appears to reflect, in part, the influence of listeners’ expectations that speech …

Multi-Dimensional Drought Risk Assessment Based On Socio-Economic Vulnerabilities And Hydro-Climatological Factors, Ali Ahmadalipour
Dissertations and Theses
Drought is among the costliest natural hazards developing slowly and affecting large areas, which imposes severe consequences on society and economy. Anthropogenic climate change is expected to exacerbate drought in various regions of the globe, making its associated socioeconomic impacts more severe. Such impacts are of higher concern in Africa, which is mainly characterized by arid climate and lacking infrastructure as well as social development. Furthermore, the continent is expected to experience vast population growth, which will make it more vulnerable to the adverse effects of drought. This study provides the first comprehensive multi-dimensional assessment of drought risk across the …

Parental Satisfaction And Objective Test Measurements Associated With Post-Partum Versus Nursery Newborn Hearing Screening, Jennifer E. Bentley, Wenyang Mao, Wendy Timpson, Jane Stewart
Journal of Early Hearing Detection and Intervention
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC; Boston, MA) initiated a change to the newborn hearing screening program in 2013 to encourage increased parental presence at the time of screening and support a more family centered hospital environment. Newborn hearing screening program technicians were encouraged to conduct all hearing screens in the parent’s post-partum rooms instead of in the nursery. To measure the effect of this change on the families and screening measures, satisfaction surveys and retrospective data was collected over a 2 year period and compared. Newborn hearing screening program technicians and mother-baby nursing staff were surveyed to determine influence …

Ontogeny And Systematics Of The Genus Cerophagus (Acari: Gaudiellidae), Mites Associated With Bumblebees, Barry M. Oconnor
The Great Lakes Entomologist
Nymphs and adults of Cerophagus nearcticus n. sp. are described from the nest of Bombus terricola occidentalis in California and phoretic associations with B. impatiens in Michigan and New York. On the basis of adult morphology, the genus Cerophagopsis is removed from synonymy with Cerophagus and retained in the family Acaridae, while Cerophagus is transferred to the family Gaudiellidae. The genus Rhypoglyphus is considered a junior subjective synonym of Cerophagopsis. The genera of Gaudiellidae are noted and the genus Trigonacoptes is considered a junior subjective synonym of Gaudiella.
Workshop As Network: A Case Study From Mughal South Asia, Yael Rice
Workshop As Network: A Case Study From Mughal South Asia, Yael Rice
Artl@s Bulletin
Over the course of Emperor Akbar’s reign (1556–1605), an exceptionally high volume of illustrated manuscripts was produced. The manuscript workshop was staffed accordingly: between the 1580s and early seventeenth century, over one hundred painters found employ at the Mughal court. Thanks to contemporaneous ascriptions found in the margins of the manuscripts’ illustrated pages, the artists’ names and the capacities (designer or colorist) in which they worked are known. This essay uses digital and sociological methods to examine networks of artistic collaborations across select manuscript projects, arguing that the structure of workshop production teams—in which membership frequently fluctuated—facilitated the formation of …
