Individualized Glycemic Targets For The Elderly Residing In Long Term Care Facilities, Abegail Hubberd

Doctor of Nursing Practice

Of people age 65 and older residing in a long-term care facility, 1 in 4 has Type 2 diabetes (Smide & Nygren, 2013). Care and management of this population is a challenge for nurses and other providers. Results of a needs assessment in a local long-term care facility identified deficiencies in the provision of evidence-based Type 2 diabetes care for this target population. American Diabetes Association Guidelines (2017) recommend application of individualized HbA1c targets for the elderly residing in long-term care facilities, especially for those with compromises in clinical and functional status. This two prong quality improvement project strove to …

Law Librarian Articles and Other Publications

This guide explains the procedures of the major international human rights systems because it is procedures that create the need to record or communicate. In other words, documents emanate from critical junctures in a process. The guide does not cover the content of the human rights themselves. Nor does it explicate the websites that hold the documents, but it will give you the information you will need to understand them. The guide will, however, give you URLs. With the information in the guide, you will be able to navigate your way through the websites without detailed directions. The first part …

The Impact Of Culture On Hispanic Entrepreneurs As Mediated By Motivation, Challenge, And Success, Valerie V. Ballesteros

Theses & Dissertations

In the modern economic environment, demographic shifts in U.S. population resulting from changing immigration, changing economic policies and environments, and growing socioeconomic disparity, scholarly research examining the business behavior of specific groups and the impact of behavior on the broader marketplace is valuable and necessary. Hispanic entrepreneurs, when compared to both minority and non-minority business-owners, started and flourished in successful business ownership at a greater growth rate than any other group (Davila, Mora, & Zeitlin, 2014). Since the beginning of the 21st century, Hispanic entrepreneurs have become a measurable economic force. The cultural experience of the Hispanic entrepreneur is important …

The Effect Of A Stability And Strengthening Program On The Oswestry Disability Index In A 14-Year-Old Patient With Spondylolisthesis: A Case Report, Hormoz Maragoul

Case Report Papers

Background and Purpose: Spondylolisthesis is a condition that describes the anterior translation of the cephalad vertebral segment of the skeletal spine relative to the caudal segment. This condition comes about by forces of gravity acting through the lordotic curve of the lumbar spine. Repetitive extension movements and weakened stabilizing muscles of the trunk like the abdominals and the gluteals may also play a role in contributing to spondylolisthesis. There is an increase in incidence rate of spondylolisthesis in adolescents who participate in sports involving repetitive extension motions. The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of physical therapy …

A Comprehensive Pt Program Utilizing An Alterg Treadmill For A Patient With Lower Extremity Fractures And Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease: A Case Report, Mark Whitsitt

Case Report Papers

Background and Purpose: People with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease have a greater risk of falls and subsequent fractures. There is a scarcity of information regarding the most effective rehab protocol for a patient with lower extremity fractures and CMT disease. Utilization of the AlterG® has been shown to promote early mobility in patients with an orthopedic diagnosis, which is also vital for CMT patients, but has not been fully investigated. The purpose of this case report was to investigate a comprehensive physical therapy program, including use of the AlterG® treadmill, for a patient with lower extremity fractures and CMT disease. Case …

Vestibular Rehabilitation For A Geriatric Patient With Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo Treatment Failure: A Case Report, Clare Roeder

Case Report Papers

Background & Purpose: Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), the most common vestibular disorder, is treated via a canalith repositioning maneuver (CRM), often providing rapid and lasting resolution of symptoms. However, 31% to 61% of patients experience residual dizziness (RD) post-treatment. For these cases, known as BPPV treatment failures, vestibular rehabilitation (VR) is recommended. Limited evidence exists for the specifics of treatment. This report documents VR of an older patient following BPPV treatment failure. Case Description: The patient was a 77 year-old male referred to outpatient physical therapy with a diagnosis of peripheral vertigo. He reported unsteadiness and dizziness during gait …

The Physical Therapy Management Of A Patient With Chronic Shoulder Dislocations And Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy: A Case Report, Lindsey Umapathy

Case Report Papers

Background and Purpose: While current literature has studied the role of physical therapy interventions when treating multi-directional shoulder instability, most evidence has focused on younger athletes with no co-morbidities. There is less research on older adults with shoulder instability, and no research on the effects of a fatigue dominant progressive neuropathy, such as Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP), on the management of recurrent shoulder dislocations. The purpose of this case report is to describe the physical therapy management and recovery of an individual with chronic shoulder instability/dislocations and CIDP. Case Description: The patient was a 62-year- old female who came …

Using Classdojo® To Enhance School Age Students’ Prosocial Behavior In A Classroom Setting, Valerie R. Forte

Theses and Dissertations

Previous literature supports the use of a variety of classroom behavioral management programs to increase prosocial behaviors and decrease problem behaviors. For example, token economies, placement of classroom rules and guidelines, and providing the opportunity for students to choose the activity or subject to work on, have proven to be effective for many students; however, they can be expensive and cumbersome to manage. ClassDojo®, a classroom management system, is a type of digital token economy system that includes technology to track digital points for teacher-directed behavior. The program is free to download, simple to use, and is easily transferable between …

Latino construction workers are at an increased risk of worksite injuries and fatalities due to language, cultural barriers, and ineffective training. This case-study investigated computer-based video training (CBT) for scaffold safety. The CBT training was developed using a participatory approach involving direct input from Latino roofers and framers. This paper focuses on evaluation-improvement of training that combined workers’ ideas of a safe work environment with OSHA standards. Researchers investigated the appropriateness and effectiveness of a brief CBT presentation addressing fall protection and scaffold use among Latino roofers. The results indicated that Latino construction workers at a roofing company in Colorado …

Constitutional Conflict And The Development Of Canadian Aboriginal Law, Guy Charlton, Xiang Gao Dec 2017

Constitutional Conflict And The Development Of Canadian Aboriginal Law, Guy Charlton, Xiang Gao

The University of Notre Dame Australia Law Review

This paper argues that aboriginal rights in Canada have been greatly affected by 19 th century governmental and social conflicts within the Canadian colonial state. These conflicts, largely over the ownership of land and regulatory authority between the federal government and the provinces necessarily impacted the First Nations on the ground while affecting how their legal claims were recognized and implemented. In particular they impacted the legal efficacy of treaty rights, the scope of rights recognised by the courts and an expansive legally protected notion of indigenous sovereignty. As a result, the rights now protected under sec. 25 and 35 …
