The Narcissistic Salesperson: A Framework Of Their Relationships With Job Satisfaction, Organizational Commitment, And Customer Orientation, J. Garry Smith Nov 2017

The Narcissistic Salesperson: A Framework Of Their Relationships With Job Satisfaction, Organizational Commitment, And Customer Orientation, J. Garry Smith

Atlantic Marketing Journal

Narcissistic salespersons can have detrimental effects on customer relationships and voluntary turnover. These impediments to organizational effectiveness occur through their relationships with customers, coworkers, supervisors, and the organization. Conversely, narcissistic salespersons also possess some attractive salesperson characteristics such as charm, resilience, confidence, competitiveness, and initial likeability. In this paper, I draw from the psychology, marketing, sales, and organizational literatures to develop a conceptual framework which illustrates the relationships of narcissistic salespersons with customers and critical job-related attitudes that affect their relationship with the organization. Specifically, this framework contains empirically testable proposed relationships between narcissism and the following specific outcomes of …

On Cliché: Expression, Cognition And Understanding, Craig Jordan-Baker Nov 2017

On Cliché: Expression, Cognition And Understanding, Craig Jordan-Baker

Journal of Creative Writing Studies

Abstract: This paper argues that cliché is not simply a problem of language and expression, but rather a cognitive problem or one of understanding. It locates several distinctive features of cliché, namely their characteristic superficiality (low informational content) and the typically low cognitive effort they require to understand. It then argues for a distinction between ‘external’ and ‘internal’ clichés, where the former are the well-known phrases commonly recognised as clichés, but the latter are not recognised as clichés but nevertheless function as clichés within a specific literary work.

Hydrologic Exchange And Chemical Weathering In A Proglacial Watershed Near Kangerlussuaq, West Greenland, Kelly M. Deuerling, Jonathan B. Martin, Ellen E. Martin, Cecilia A. Scribner Nov 2017

Hydrologic Exchange And Chemical Weathering In A Proglacial Watershed Near Kangerlussuaq, West Greenland, Kelly M. Deuerling, Jonathan B. Martin, Ellen E. Martin, Cecilia A. Scribner

Geography and Geology Faculty Publications

The exchange of proglacial river water with active layer pore water could alter water chemical compositions in glacial outwash plains and oceanic solute fluxes. To evaluate effects of this exchange, we sampled Watson River and adjacent pore water during the 2013 melt season at two sandurs in western Greenland; one in Sandflugtdalen and the other near the confluence with Søndre Strømfjord. We measured temperature, specific conductivity, and head gradients between the river and bank over a week-long period at Sandflugtdalen, as well as sediment hydraulic conductivity and chemical compositions of waters from both sites. Specific conductivity of pore water is …

Reconsidering Epistemic Evaluation, Lance Kelly Aschliman Nov 2017

Reconsidering Epistemic Evaluation, Lance Kelly Aschliman

Open Access Dissertations

This project is an examination of epistemic evaluation, of what it is and how we should think about it in our overall normative theories. The overarching goal of this dissertation is to argue that it is theoretically fruitful to frame epistemic evaluation in a specific way, as a kind of “critical domain” or evaluative practice that takes the constitutive goals of inquiry to be fundamentally valuable. In due course, I argue that knowledge and not mere true belief is fundamentally valuable from the epistemic perspective and that, when we see epistemic evaluation in this way, a number of difficult theoretical …

On The Time Variation Of Dust Extinction And Gas Absorption For Type Ia Supernovae Observed Through A Nonuniform Interstellar Medium, Xiaosheng Huang, G Aldering, M. Biederman, B. Herger Nov 2017

On The Time Variation Of Dust Extinction And Gas Absorption For Type Ia Supernovae Observed Through A Nonuniform Interstellar Medium, Xiaosheng Huang, G Aldering, M. Biederman, B. Herger

Physics and Astronomy

For Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) observed through a nonuniform interstellar medium (ISM) in its host galaxy, we investigate whether the nonuniformity can cause observable time variations in dust extinction and in gas absorption due to the expansion of the SN photosphere with time. We show that, owing to the steep spectral index of the ISM density power spectrum, sizable density fluctuation amplitudes at the length scale of typical ISM structures () will translate to much smaller fluctuations on the scales of an SN photosphere. Therefore, the typical amplitude of time variation due to a nonuniform ISM, of absorption equivalent …

The Role Of Carbon On Copper–Carbon Composites For The Electrooxidation Of Alcohols In An Alkaline Medium, Leticia García-Cruz, Conchi O. Ania, Ana Paula Carvalho, Teresa Bandosz, Vicente Montiel, Jesús Iniesta Nov 2017

The Role Of Carbon On Copper–Carbon Composites For The Electrooxidation Of Alcohols In An Alkaline Medium, Leticia García-Cruz, Conchi O. Ania, Ana Paula Carvalho, Teresa Bandosz, Vicente Montiel, Jesús Iniesta

Publications and Research

Copper–carbon composites were prepared following various different synthetic routes and using various carbon precursors (i.e., lignocellulose and graphite oxide), andwere used as electrocatalysts for the oxidation of propargyl alcohol (PGA) in an alkaline medium. The electrochemical response of the copper-based catalysts was analyzed in terms of the influence of the metallic species, the carbon matrix incorporated in the composites, and the chemical structure of the ionomers—Nafion and poly (4-vinylpyridine) cross-linked methyl chloride quaternary salt resin (4VP)—used in the fabrication of the electrodes. Data has shown that the incorporation of reduced graphene oxide sheets between the copper metallic particles increased the …

Development Of Some Scalable Pattern Recognition Algorithms For Real Life Data Analysis, Partha Garai Nov 2017

Development Of Some Scalable Pattern Recognition Algorithms For Real Life Data Analysis, Partha Garai

Doctoral Theses

A huge amount of data is being generated continuously as a result of recent advancement and wide use of high-throughput technologies. With the rapid increase in size of data distributed worldwide, understanding the data has become critical. In this regard, dimensionality reduction and clustering have become the necessary preprocessing steps of multiple research areas and applications. One of the important problems of real life large data sets is uncertainty. Some of the sources of this uncertainty include imprecision in computation and vagueness in class denitions. The uncertainty may also be present in the denition of class membership function. In this …

Direct Digital Manufacturing Of Multi-Layer Wideband Ku-Band Patch Antennas, Merve Kacar Nov 2017

Direct Digital Manufacturing Of Multi-Layer Wideband Ku-Band Patch Antennas, Merve Kacar

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Design and performance of fully-printed Ku-band aperture coupled patch antennas fabricated by a direct digital manufacturing (DDM) approach that integrates fused deposition modeling (FDM) of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) thermoplastic with in-situ micro-dispensing of conductive silver paste (CB028) are reported. Microstrip line characterizations are performed and demonstrate that misalignment of ABS substrate deposition direction with microstrip line micro-dispensing direction can degrade the effective conductivity up to 60% within the Ku-band, and must be taken into consideration in antenna array feed network designs. Specically, over 125 µm thick ABS substrate, RF loss of 0.052 dB/mm is obtained at 18 GHz, demonstrating …

An Intelligent Robots-Server System For Solar Panel Cleaning And Electric Power Output Optimization, Evangelos A. Yfantis Nov 2017

An Intelligent Robots-Server System For Solar Panel Cleaning And Electric Power Output Optimization, Evangelos A. Yfantis

Computer Science Faculty Research

Electric energy production from solar panels is becoming more and more economically viable as the efficiency of the new solar panels increases and their cost decreases steadily. Solar panels in places where the sun shines almost every day of the year provide a clean alternative to traditional electric energy generators, without placing stress on the environment. Large scale solar panel installations could lose a percentage of their output due to dust, bird droppings, cable destruction by small animals with sharp teeth, panel destruction by vandals, and many other reasons. In this research paper we provide an improvement of our robots …

Tests on B-L symmetry breaking models are important probes to search for new physics. One proposed model with Δ(B-L)=2 involves the oscillations of a neutron to an antineutron. In this paper, a new limit on this process is derived for the data acquired from all three operational phases of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory experiment. The search concentrated on oscillations occurring within the deuteron, and 23 events were observed against a background expectation of 30.5 events. These translated to a lower limit on the nuclear lifetime of 1.48×1031 yr at 90% C.L. when no restriction was placed on the signal likelihood …

Synthesis Of Graphene And Graphene-Based Composite Membrane, Yuanjun Fan Nov 2017

Synthesis Of Graphene And Graphene-Based Composite Membrane, Yuanjun Fan

Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Vibration membrane equipped for earphone requires high performance in both mechanical properties and electronic properties. With extraordinary properties on both, graphene and graphene-based composite materials appear as a promising candidate for this application. Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is believed to be the most convenient way to synthesize a large area (on scale of square centimeters) as well as a homogeneous thickness for the membrane. The thesis focuses on applying control variable experiment method to analyze different effects on mechanical property of the two CVD setting parameters: cooling rate, and hydrocarbon precursor. For isolating the specimens efficiently, a modified electrochemical method …
