It was in that class that I first heard of industrial/organizational psychology.” This is how Dr. Logan Watts explains how he chose to become a psychologist.

A native of Georgetown, Texas, he obtained his doctorate in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Oklahoma, and today he is an assistant professor …

Improving The Social Behavior Of High School Students With Behavioral Challenges Through Self-Management Technology, Kathryn Dooley

Doctoral Dissertations

Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD) struggle with social behaviors (Bradley, Henderson, & Monfore, 2004) such as distractibility and impulsivity (Wagner et al., 2004). Self-management strategies have been used effectively to increase on-task behavior and decrease off-task or inappropriate behavior of students with EBD (Briesch & Chafouleas, 2009a). Additionally, self-management applications for the Apple iPad have led to improvements in the social behavior of students with challenging behavior (Bruhn, Vogelgesang, Fernando., & Lugo, 2016; Bruhn, Vogelgesang, Schabilion, Waller, & Fernando, 2015b; Vogelgesang, Bruhn, Coghill-Behrends, Kern, & Thoughton, 2016). However, a gap in the literature in the use of self-management …

Evaluation Of Non Genetic Factors Affecting Milk Production Traits Of Holstein Cattle, M Fouda,, Kh El- Bayomi, R Darwish, A Eltanahy

Mansoura Veterinary Medical Journal

This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of a ge at calving (AC), parity, days in milk (DIM), calving interval (CI), d ays open (DO), d ry period (DP), number of services per conception (NSC), s eason of calving on peak milk yield (PMY), time to attain peak milk yield (TPMY), 305 day mature equivalent (305- DMY) and total milk yield (TMY). Age at calving had significant effect (P≤ 0.05) on all traits studied except TPMY. DIM had a highly significant effect (P< 0.001) on PMY (37.14- 39.18 kg), TPMY (99.29- 194.08days), 305-DMY (8692.86 - 9760.65 kg) and TMY (4552.82- 12416.95 kg) respectively. Furthermore, DO and DP had a highly significant effect on PMY (33.72- 40.29 and 31.81 41.08 kg, respectively), TPMY (152.01- 165.14 and 139-165 day s , respectively), 305-DMY (8613.83- 9606.83 and 7266.76- 9699.76 kg, respectively) and TMY (8057.51- 8865.18 and 6682.97- 8850.30 kg, respectively). NSC had a highly significant effect (P< 0.001) on all traits studied except PMY. On the other hand, parity had no significant influence (P ≥ 0.05) on all traits studied except PMY. CI had no significant effect on all traits studied except 305-DMY. Moreover, season of calving had no significant effect on all traits studied. In conclusion, these factors should be accounted for genetic evaluation process. At farm level, management decisions such as selection and culling, and feeding should made putting these factors into consideration in order to achieve more reliable evaluation.

Sherlock Holmes Meets Rube Goldberg: Fixing The Entry-Into-Force Provisions Of The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, David A. Koplow

Duke Journal of Comparative & International Law

The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) is widely heralded as the most important international legal instrument for arresting the nuclear arms race and impeding further nuclear proliferation. Concluded in 1996, the treaty has been signed by 183 countries and ratified by 166. But it has not yet entered into force, because of its unique requirement that it not become operational for any state until it has been ratified by all forty-four countries designated in its Annex 2. Thirty-six of those Annex 2 states have ratified, but there is little prospect that all of the other eight (including the United …

Secrecy For The Sake Of It: The Defend Trade Secrets Act, Lauren Rayner Davis Dec 2017

Secrecy For The Sake Of It: The Defend Trade Secrets Act, Lauren Rayner Davis

Brooklyn Law Review

With foreign economic espionage and national security concerns thrust to the forefront of the discussion, Congress nearly unanimously passed the Defend Trade Secrets Act after a concerted effort by the executive branch, federal law enforcement, and intellectual property scholars. While this landmark legislation provides the long sought-after grounds of original federal jurisdiction for trade secret misappropriation claims, the statute also offers litigants a powerful remedy—the ex parte seizure provision. This unprecedented provision in trade secrets law allows a plaintiff, with no notice to the defendant, to file an application with the court requesting that U.S. Marshals seize and hold the …

Circuit Rift Sends Sound Waves: An Interpretation Of The Copyright Act's Scope Of Protection For Digital Sampling Of Sound Recordings, Elyssa E. Abuhoff

Brooklyn Law Review

Digital sampling of sound recordings itself has become an art—an art that has given rise to hit songs that have out-charted the songs they sampled. Yet there is a debate within the music industry and legal field over whether there is a de minimis exception for the unauthorized use of sound recordings. In the summer of 2016, in VMG Salsoul, LLC v. Ciccone, the Ninth Circuit departed from the Sixth Circuit’s unpopular 2006 decision in Bridgeport Music, Inc. v. Dimension Films by holding that the Copyright Act allows for a de minimis exception for the unauthorized use of sound recordings. …

The Effect Of Multiage Grouping On The Self-Esteem Of Students, Aaron Farrant Dec 2017

The Effect Of Multiage Grouping On The Self-Esteem Of Students, Aaron Farrant

Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership Dissertations

Educators know children need to learn at a level that is appropriately challenging for them. If the material is too difficult, the children will often feel defeated and stop trying. If the material is too easy, the children will often lose interest and not achieve their potential. Educators also know children learn at different speeds and have different abilities, even children who are the same age. Despite knowing this, the traditional educational model is designed to group children based solely on age and the expectation is for the teacher to differentiate to meet the needs of each individual child in …

Evidence Based Protocol: Improving Nutrition Monitoring In Hospitalized Adults, Philip W. Jackson

Master's Projects

Malnutrition affects a large number of adult inpatients. For these patients, the implications of the high rate of malnutrition include impaired wound healing, higher rates of infection, and an increased risk of death. These complications contribute to increased healthcare costs and longer lengths of stay. The level of monitoring and documentation of patients’ meal consumption was acknowledged to be below expectations in an acuity-adaptable neurosciences unit situated in a downtown hospital located in the Midwestern United States. The define-measure-analyze-improve-control (DMAIC) quality improvement framework guided the quality improvement team to develop a standard process for meal related activities. The rate of …
