Carpenter, Tammy Toscos, Michael Mirro Md, Facc, Fhrs, Faha

Health Services and Informatics Research

Background: Prevention of thromboembolism is key in individuals with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) and nonadherence to oral anticoagulant (OAC) therapy is a frequent causative factor of stroke. Many factors contribute to the complexity of medication nonadherence. Thus, education aimed at changing health behaviors must be tailored to address the unique internal motivations and information needs of those confronted with the daily choice to take a medication to prevent stroke. Delivery of tailored health education and medication reminders may be an effective way to empower individuals with NVAF and in consequence, improve OAC adherence.

Methods: We applied a patient-centered approach and …

The Impact Of Dual Roles In Mentoring Relationships: A Mixed Research Study, Jennifer Boswell, Marcella D. Stark, Angie D. Wilson, Anthony J. Onwuegbuzie

Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision

In the field of counselor education, mentors often are involved in varying roles with mentees, such as being mentor, dissertation chair, and or chair to the mentee. Due to the various roles, both the mentor and mentee need to recognize how each of these roles impacts the development of the mentee and the overall mentoring relationship. The purpose of our study was to examine the relationship between perceived dual roles of the mentor and the impact on the mentoring relationship. We found that counseling students and faculty who had experienced dual roles in their mentoring relationships had high career-related functions …

Conceptualizing Parent Involvement In Child Therapy: A Framework Roles Using Bernard's Discrimination Model, Mi-Hee Jeon Oct 2017

Conceptualizing Parent Involvement In Child Therapy: A Framework Roles Using Bernard's Discrimination Model, Mi-Hee Jeon

Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision

This paper introduces a theoretical map conceptualizing parent involvement in the child counseling process by applying the roles from Bernard’s Discrimination Model (DM). Semi-structured interviews with experts in child counseling and copyrighted DVDs were collected as data. A framework approach through the DM is utilized to analyze data to offer the conceptual structure of parent involvement. As a result, the three different roles—counselor, teacher, and consultant—and tasks for each role when engaging parents for child counseling are identified. Discussions about the meaning and limitations of this study are included.

Interpersonal Rhetoric: An Approach To Bettering Oneself And Others, Anthony M. Wachs

Discourse: The Journal of the SCASD

Although interpersonal interaction is predominantly studied through the lens of communication studies, the field was originally studied primarily by scholars of rhetoric. Though this paradigm was instrumental in the founding of interpersonal communication, interpersonal rhetoric has largely been ignored by the discipline. However, throughout the last few decades, a few scholars have attempted to reinvigorate the study of interpersonal communication through the lens of rhetoric. This paper explores the several key concepts and perspectives within the history of the rhetorical approach to interpersonal communication, i.e., interpersonal rhetoric.

Projected Red Pine Yields From Aldrin-Treated And Untreated Stands Damaged By White Grubs And Other Agents, Richard F. Fowler, Louis F. Wilson Oct 2017

Projected Red Pine Yields From Aldrin-Treated And Untreated Stands Damaged By White Grubs And Other Agents, Richard F. Fowler, Louis F. Wilson

The Great Lakes Entomologist

(excerpt)

Young red pines, Pinus resinosa Ait., during the first few years after planting in the Lake States, are vulnerable to several injurious agents, including white grubs, the larvae of May beetles, Phyllophaga spp. (Kittredge, 1929; Craighead, 1950). The pesticide aldrin3 has frequently been applied at planting time to protect seedlings from white grubs. More than 12,000 acres of national forest land were treated with aldrin from 1960 to 1967 in the Lake States; almost 10,000 of these were on the Hiawatha National Forest (Fowler, 1973).

Heptageniidae (Ephemeroptera) Of Wisconsin, R. Wills Flowers, William L. Hilsenhoff Oct 2017

Heptageniidae (Ephemeroptera) Of Wisconsin, R. Wills Flowers, William L. Hilsenhoff

The Great Lakes Entomologist

(excerpt)

Heptageniidae are one of the most abundant and widespread components of Wisconsin's aquatic insect fauna. In almost any stream with a firm substrate and free of gross pollution, the flattened nymphs can be found hiding in crevasses and under rocks, or clinging to submerged wood. Adults and nymphs are easily distinguished from mayflies of other families, nymphs by their dorsoventrally flattened head and dorsal eyes, and adults by their 5-segmented tarsi and complete wing veination. This paper presents our knowledge to date of Heptageniidae in Wisconsin.

Pesticide Effects On Orthopteroid Distribution In Southern Michigan Farmlands, Benedict C. Pinkowski Oct 2017

Pesticide Effects On Orthopteroid Distribution In Southern Michigan Farmlands, Benedict C. Pinkowski

The Great Lakes Entomologist

The occulrence and abundance of 22 species of orthopteroids is compared for isolated farm yards surrounded by corn fields which were either treated or not treated with a pesticide combination consisting of the herbicides Sutan and AAtrex, and the insecticide Dyfonate. All 22 species were present in the untreated plots, whereas only 12 were recorded in the treated plots, a 45.5% reduction.

Species characteristics determining the observed differences, in the order of decreasing importance, are: general abundance in non-treated areas, seasonal periodism, and vagility. More common species and fewer uncommon species were present in the treated areas, apparently because of …

A Study In The Summer Phenology Of Dionychious Spiders From Northern Minnesota Forests, Bruce Cutler, Lee H. Grim, H M. Kulman

The Great Lakes Entomologist

Dionychious ground layer spiders from Larix and Populus stands were collected by pitfall traps. The typical pattern of dominant, influent and accessory species was well marked. Populus stands had greater diversity of species than Larix stands. Those species characterized by large male:female sex ratios had sharp peaks in the first month of collecting, and others had smaller early season peaks or early season and late season peaks. Traps with an apron leading to the trap caught twice as many specimens compared to traps without an apron.

Other specimens in the collections of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Indianapolis, Indiana, of Purdue, and of Earlham College, Richmond, Indiana are incorporated herein.
