We investigated the effects of sex and breeding season on the morphological and histological structures of the interdigital gland in Awassi sheep (Ovis aries). Forelimbs and hind limbs were collected from 10 males and 10 females in both the breeding (June-July) and nonbreeding (November-December) seasons. The interdigital glands were located between the first and second phalanxes and were present on all of the limbs. The mean weight of the gland was 1.03 ± 0.03 g. Availability of a rapid and sensitive diagnostic technique is key in successful prevention and control of infectious diseases like foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Existing conventional diagnostic tests for FMD are laborious and time-consuming with low sensitivity and specificity. Molecular-based techniques are costly and difficult, involving refined apparatus like a thermal cycler. In the present study, the technique of real-time loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) was standardized for diagnosing FMDV and its serotypes, evaluated using field samples, and compared with the existing real-time PCR in Pakistan. This study was carried out to determine flea species infesting small, wild rodents and insectivorous wild mammals of the Aegean Region in Turkey. A total of 52 small, wild mammals, comprising one insectivorous and four rodent species, namely Crocidura suaveolens, Mus macedonicus, Apodemus flavicollis, Microtus levis, and Apodemus witherbyi, were captured. Fleas were collected, preserved in 70% alcohol, and labelled for identification in the field. In the laboratory, they were cleared in 10% KOH and mounted with Hoyer's medium. Research was undertaken to develop an enzyme-substrate-based time-temperature integrator (TTI) for monitoring higher temperature thawing of frozen buffalo meat. Alpha-amylase and iodine-starch complex were standardized for enzyme-substrate combinations and process optimization and packed in 2 × 2 cm LDPE bags. The meat samples were packed in polystyrene trays with cling film overwrap and frozen at -18 ± 1 °C. Each sample had a sticker-type TTI attached to the surface of the package. The purpose of the present investigation was to measure pelt follicle characters after birth and to determine the relationship among pelt and follicle characters in fat-tailed Gray Shirazy sheep. Skin samples were taken from 150 lambs at 1 and at 120 days of age and from their parents (18 rams and 150 ewes) using a biopsy punch (8 mm in diameter) from the right mid-side of the body. Fowl adenovirus serotype 4 (FAdV-4) is a new emerging viral disease of chickens worldwide. It causes inclusion body hepatitis and hepatitis-hydropericardium syndrome. Little is known about its prevalence in the Middle East. Here we report the prevalence of FAdV-4 in five chicken farms in eastern Saudi Arabia. High mortality rates were reported from birds from those five farms at 15 weeks of age. Gross examination revealed typical hydropericardium syndrome and accumulation of jelly-like materials in the pericardial cavities. We isolated FAdV-4 by using embryonated chicken egg inoculation. The Javanese medaka (Oryzias javanicus) has the potential to be developed as a test organism. It also exhibited many characteristics that are similar to those of well-known laboratory fishes. This study determined the effects of water pH on the survival, reproductive performances, and ultrastructure of the gonads, gills, and skins of the Javanese medaka. This study confirmed that Javanese medakas treated with pH 6-7 displayed the lowest mortality, but increased in egg production and hatchability. This study was performed to determine the antibacterial activity of methanol extracts of 23 bryophyte species against Paenibacillus larvae isolates that cause American foulbrood diseases in honeybee larvae. The honey and larva samples were collected from nine different locations of Rize in Turkey. A total of 22 gram-positive spore-forming bacteria were isolated from the larva and honey samples. This study aimed to analyze and sequence a protein with molecular weight of approximately 30 kDa found in the saliva of the Indonesian local goat (Capra hircus) using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight/time of flight-mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF/TOF-MS) and related techniques. Saliva was collected from 50 healthy male and female local goats of 4-30 months old. The results showed that the average value of the total saliva protein was 669 ± 251.293 µg/mL, in the range of 350-1550 µg/mL. The aim of this study was to determine the slaughter and carcass characteristics of Herik lambs finished under intensive husbandry conditions. Twenty single male lambs, ten of which had long, semifat tails and ten of which had short, round, and fat tails, all with an average live weight of 20 kg, were used in the study. The sapphire mink is a unique animal model to study cellular morphology. It demonstrates abnormal leukocytes like in patients with Chédiak-Higashi syndrome. We aimed to determine the morphologic features of blood and bone marrow leukocytes in the sapphire mink and dark-brown mink (wild type). In addition, were assessed age-related changes in total white blood cell (WBC) and differential WBC counts. This study investigated how environmental structuring in the growing units of goat kids influences their ability to cope with social isolation and weaning-induced stress. Two experimental groups were arranged in an enriched (E) or barren (B) environment and each of the two groups had 10 female and 10 male kids. During the social isolation, the goat kids in group E started bleating earlier (P = 0.1612) and more frequently (P = 0.0125). The present study aimed to identify whether vitamin E and C and their combination in basal freezing medium improved the viability of postthaw transfected spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs). For this purpose, SSCs were harvested by enzymatic digestion twice. After enrichment and culture on Sertoli cell feeder layer, SSCs were characterized by using alkaline phosphatase staining and expression of oct-4 and c-kit genes as specific stem cell markers. Glutathione reductase (GR) is highly conserved among diverse taxa and has important biochemical functions. These functions may facilitate survival in harsh conditions, but the role of GR from the liver of the Arabian camel (Camelus dromedarius) is unknown. In this study, the mitochondrial glutathione reductase gene (Gsr) from C. dromedarius liver was cloned and highly expressed in Escherichia coli (Jm109) to gain insight into GR functions in the liver. A study was conducted to compare the clinical presentation and pathology of some organs associated with experimental infection of Nigeria field isolates of Trypanosoma vivax and Trypanosoma congolense in the Yankasa breed of sheep. Sixty multiparous Holstein-Friesian dairy cows made up the study sample. Group M (n = 20) received 300 mg/day monensin (Kexxtone, Elanco) for 21 days prior to the expected calving date. This study was undertaken to determine the relationship between carcass traits and chemical compositions. Using ultrasound scanning from two different anatomic regions, the study involved estimating carcass traits and chemical composition in male Karayaka lambs. Measurements were taken of skin thickness, subcutaneous fat thickness, muscle depth, muscle width, and muscle area between the 12th and 13th thoracic vertebrae (12- 3T) and 3rd and 4th lumbar vertebrae (3-4L) using real-time ultrasound in 15 six-month-old lambs. Data from sixty-one 2-5-year-old Awassi ewes (38 single and 23 twin births) were evaluated in order to determine behaviour at parturition and the following first hour. Observations were subjected to Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests, Pearson-s chi-square test, independent samples t-test, and ANOVA. The Awassi sheep exhibited sniffing action after parturition as the initial behaviour, choosing the back part of the lamb. The distribution of infection by the species Brucella ovis in rams and abortion cases in sheep in Croatia was investigated in the period from 2011 to 2015. The investigation relied on serological testing in rams and sheep after abortion conducted using a complement fixation test and immunosorbent assay conducted with bacteriological testing of the testes in seropositive rams and aborted material. Seropositive reactions were confirmed in 1100 (6%) of rams samples and in 12 (2.3%) of ewe samples. Isolated strains were also confirmed on the molecular level. The study was conducted to investigate comparatively some behavior traits (grazing, resting, bipedal stance, agonistic behavior, rumination, and browsing) of Honamlı, Hair, and Saanen goat breeds in the morning and afternoon periods between April and September in maquis shrublands. A total of 30 two-year-old goats including 10 from each goat breed were used. In this study, 30 mixed-breed, neutered, young adult male dogs at 15-30 kg live weights were used. The foods were produced at a special facility. Dog food produced using 25% barley had a gelatinized starch content significantly greater than that of food produced using 25% rice: 18.36% vs. 17.45%, respectively. No considerable difference was observed in the dogs' preference between the two foods (50.95% vs. 49.05%). Dry matter digestibility of rice and barley food was 86.10% and 83.85% and crude protein digestibility was 80.44% and 79.24%, respectively. Based on the consumption of rice or barley, stool consistency did not change.
