Resistance to multidrug therapy (MDT) is one of the complications in the treatment of Hansen’s disease/Morbus Hansen (MH). There are two types of resistancy, which are primary and secondary. MDT-multibacillary (MB) resistance must be suspected when no clinical improvement and the acid-fast bacilli (AFB) index is not reduced after 12 months of therapy. A 28-year-old woman with paresthesia on her face, arms and legs since 2.5 years ago, accompanied by thickening of the right posterior tibial nerve. The AFB examination showed a bacteriological index (BI) of 15/6 and morphological index (MI) of 0.50%. The second case, a 42-year-old man came …

Neural leprosy is characterized by neurological deficit without skin lesions, with a prevalence ranging from 1% to 17.7%. Diagnosis might be difficult and need a multidisciplinary approach. This is a case of axonal type motor and sensory polyradiculoneuropathy of the peripheral facial nerve. A 26-year-old woman was referred from the neurology clinic with facial paralysis, suspected as leprosy. Physical examinations were as follows: no skin lesions, left eye lagophthalmos, thickening of right lateral peroneal and bilateral posterior tibial nerves, sensory impairment, peripheral bilateral facial palsy, and wasting of bilateral distal small muscles of the hands, with normal autonomic function. This study examines the direct and indirect impacts of earnings quality on cost of equity capital by using path analysis. The quality of earnings is measured by two proxies, namely discretionary accrual and income smoothing. Information asymmetry is used as mediating variable. This study uses 3 years sample period, ie 2008-2010. This study finds that information asymmetry has two important roles in determining the cost of equity capital. Firstly, information asymmetry affects positively to cost of equity capital, and secondly, information asymmetries serve as mediator between earnings quality measured by discretionary accrual and the cost of equity capital. The hydrodynamic model Delft3D is used to study the impact of Sea Level Rise (SLR) on storm surge and inundation in the coastal region of Bangladesh. To study the present-day inundation scenario, track of two known tropical cyclones (TC) were used: Aila (Category 1; 2009) and Sidr (Category 5; 2007). Model results were validated with the available observations. Future inundation scenarios were generated by using the strength of TC Sidr, TC Aila and an ensemble of historical TC tracks but incorporating the effect of SLR. Objective: To investigate the feasibility of a subdural strip, placed just proximal to the surgical field, to record somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs) of the posterior tibial nerve (PTN) during detethering surgery for spinal dysraphism and/or tethered cord syndrome (TCS). Method: Twenty three patients (thirteen boys and ten girls; age, 4 months to 15 years) were enrolled in this study. Eleven patients had lipomyelomeningoceles, seven had TCS, two had split cord malformations, one with terminal myelocystocele, one with VACTERL syndrome, and one had a spinal tumor at the T11 to L4 level. Students with learning disabilities are placed in general education classrooms in increasing numbers. Many of these students receive additional services in Resource Room programs taught by a special education teacher. The intent of this study was to determine if students with disabilities, who were struggling in mathematics, increased achievement utilizing Resource Room instruction as an intervention. Students in the study were in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades and performed at least one grade level below expectations for that grade in mathematics. All of the students had a specific learning disability. We encountered varied challenges in our efforts to prepare teacher candidates for social-justice-oriented lessons. Latinos represent a significant percentage of the U.S. population; yet, they continue to experience substantial educational challenges in society. The purpose of this paper is to explore the barriers Latino students face in pursuit of educational opportunity and the important role school counselors and school psychologists can play in preparing them for life after high school, whether it be participation in the workforce or attendance at a postsecondary institution. Policy recommendations are provided for educators and policymakers at the secondary and postsecondary levels. Moreover, practice recommendations are offered for school counselors and school psychologists at the secondary level.

We provide a record and field observations of California vole (Microtus californicus) based on a specimen collected on 5 June 2013 in riparian habitat from Arroyo San Rafael, northwestern Sierra San Pedro Mártir, Baja California, México. The last known record of this species in México was in 1974. This species was suspected to be extirpated from México; however, our recent record confirms its present occurrence in this country.

Western North American Naturalist

The first confirmed record of a live ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) in the state of Durango, and in La Michilía Biosphere Reserve, is reported here. This record is based on a photograph of an adult taken during a 2015 winter phototrapping survey. This noteworthy record extends the ocelot’s geographic distribution by >120 km from the nearest record in Sinaloa, Mexico. The record locality is also in oak forest at an unusually high altitude of 2750 m asl for an ocelot in Mexico.
