Environmental Dispute Resolution Program

During the summer and fall of 2016, Environmental Dispute Resolution Program staff conducted in-‐depth confidential interviews with 30 individuals representing a diverse range of stakeholder groups in Bonner County, Idaho. The intent of these interviews was to illuminate the diversity of perspectives, areas of agreement and disagreement, and opportunities and challenges related to growth, land use, and planning in the county. A list of stakeholder groups and jurisdictions represented by interviewees is provided in Appendix A. The Effect Of Hamstring Lengthening On Pelvic Tilt And Lumbar Lordosis, Michael Scott Braman Dec 2016

The Effect Of Hamstring Lengthening On Pelvic Tilt And Lumbar Lordosis, Michael Scott Braman

Theses and Dissertations (ETD)

A direct correlation between hamstring tightness and severity of lower back pain (LBP) has been previously reported. Hamstring contraction creates knee flexion, hip extension and posterior pelvic tilt. Posterior pelvic tilt causes the lumbar spine to flatten (hypolordosis) which places pressure on the anterior structures of the spine, including the intervertebral disc. This increased pressure may predispose individuals to disc degeneration and associated pain. For this reason, hamstring stretching is often prescribed to alleviate LBP, however, the effect of hamstring lengthening on the kinematics of the lumbar spine and pelvis is not well understood. Accurate measurement of lumbar spine movement …

A Subject Specific Surface Electromyography Model For Estimating L4/L5 Compressive Loading, Pablo Joaquin Dopico Dec 2016

A Subject Specific Surface Electromyography Model For Estimating L4/L5 Compressive Loading, Pablo Joaquin Dopico

Theses and Dissertations (ETD)

Introduction: Low Back Pain (LBP) is a leading cause of activity limitation worldwide and results in 149 million lost work days annually in the United States. The total costs of LBP are estimated to be $100 to $200 billion annually. Specific causes of LBP account for less than 15% of LBP cases. Heavy loading of the lumbar spine and tight hamstrings have been identified as risk factors for LBP. Tight hamstrings pull the pelvis posteriorly and reduce the lordosis of the spine, resulting in increased loading of the lumbar vertebral bodies of the spine. While this mechanism has been described, …

I Hope, Mai Trinh Dec 2016

I Hope, Mai Trinh

SURGE

As I have gotten older, I have learned that no matter how hard I try, I am never going to be able to repay my mother for everything that she did for me. The blood, sweat, and tears she put into nurturing the sick and troublesome, five-year-old me, the rebellious and lazy fifteen-year-old me, and the clumsy, and sometimes lost me now, are insurmountable. I know she had more trouble raising me than she was supposed to. I know her first five years of being a mother did not include taking me to the park, sitting down on a park …

Novel Integration Of Conductive-Ink Circuitry With A Paper-Based Microfluidic Battery As An All-Printed Sensing Platform, Rishi A. Kripalani Dec 2016

Novel Integration Of Conductive-Ink Circuitry With A Paper-Based Microfluidic Battery As An All-Printed Sensing Platform, Rishi A. Kripalani

Master's Theses

The addition of powered components for active assays into paper-based analytical devices opens new opportunities for medical and environmental analysis in resource-limited applications. Current battery designs within such devices have yet to adopt a ubiquitous circuitry material, necessitating investigation into printed circuitry for scalable platforms. In this study, a microfluidic battery was mated with silver-nanoparticle conductive ink to prototype an all-printed sensing platform. A multi-layer, two-cell device was fabricated, generating 200 μA of direct electrical current at 2.5 V sustained for 16 minutes with a power loss of less than 0.1% through the printed circuitry. Printed circuitry traces exhibited resistivity …

Ransomware In High-Risk Environments, Shallaw M. Aziz Dec 2016

Ransomware In High-Risk Environments, Shallaw M. Aziz

Information Technology Capstone Research Project Reports

In today’s modern world, cybercrime is skyrocketing globally, which impacts a variety of organizations and endpoint users. Hackers are using a multitude of approaches and tools, including ransomware threats, to take over targeted systems. These acts of cybercrime lead to huge damages in areas of business, healthcare systems, industry sectors, and other fields. Ransomware is considered as a high risk threat, which is designed to hijack the data. This paper is demonstrating the ransomware types, and how they are evolved from the malware and trojan codes, which is used to attack previous incidents, and explains the most common encryption algorithms …

Retracing Augustine’S Ethics: Lying, Necessity, And The Image Of God, Matthew Puffer Dec 2016

Retracing Augustine’S Ethics: Lying, Necessity, And The Image Of God, Matthew Puffer

Christ College Faculty Publications

Augustine’s exposition of the image of God in Book 15 of On The Trinity (De Trinitate) sheds light on multiple issues that arise in scholarly interpretations of Augustine’s account of lying. This essay argues against interpretations that posit a uniform account of lying in Augustine—with the same constitutive features, and insisting both that it is never necessary to tell a lie and that lying is absolutely prohibited. Such interpretations regularly employ intertextual reading strategies that elide distinctions and developments in Augustine’s ethics of lying. Instead, I show how looking at texts written prior and subsequent to the texts usually consulted …

Greenbroke: Stories, Sarah Jean Rains Dec 2016

Greenbroke: Stories, Sarah Jean Rains

Graduate Theses

In my collection Greenbroke: Stories, I explore the underbelly of the equestrian world. On the surface, the equestrian community is viewed as a world for the wealthy. It is viewed as a community of extravagance and excess. Additionally, there are few pieces of fiction that actually take the reader beyond the glamor of the surface. My stories do just that. Throughout my collection it was my aim to allow readers into a world that is different from the stereotypical equine community they thought they knew. In my stories, horse people watch their worlds collapse around them. My characters exist …

The Catholic Church, Catalyst For Change: Taking The Black Community Of Rock Hill, Sc From The Twentieth To The Twenty-First Century, 1946-2016, Sandra Ludwa

Graduate Theses

The Roman Catholic Oratorians came to Rock Hill, South Carolina in 1935 with the mission to minister to the poor, underprivileged, and disadvantaged of all races and creeds, and to spread the good news of Catholicism. During the past eighty-one years, the Catholic Church has had a tremendous effect on where the community stands today. It was, and remains, significant because it improves economic, social, educational, and vocational conditions for the black community in particular. The church is ever changing, growing, and evolving to meet the needs of its congregation and community, and is quite different from the Catholic Church …
