Studia i Materiały Wydział Zarządzania Uniwersytet Warszawski

This paper presents the results of research on the management education process concerning the employer-employee relationship. The aim of this paper is to analyze a perception of employers’ and employees’ social roles (Goffman, 1959) by diverse social groups (Kostera, 2012) and its consequences for the psychological contract which is a significant relationships factor in a working environment (Makin, Cooper and Cox, 2000). Most of these pitfalls apply also to psychological and sociological research. The summary covers answers to reviewers’ potentially unjustified objections concerning samples and lack of hypotheses.

Determinants And Consequences Of Involuntary Turnover Of Sales Personnel, Krzysztof Cybulski Dec 2016

Determinants And Consequences Of Involuntary Turnover Of Sales Personnel, Krzysztof Cybulski

Studia i Materiały Wydział Zarządzania Uniwersytet Warszawski

Both voluntary and involuntary turnover of sales personnel has a costly and troublesome impact on virtually all firms operating in different industries. In this paper the author argues that an increasingly important phenomenon of especially involuntary sales force turnover derives mostly from poor managerial practices and, to a certain extent, reflects the inability of sales managers to deal with sales teams problems. An accurate analysis of the phenomenon allowed for identifying practical solutions and showing specific necessary actions that would reduce the volume of sales force involuntary turnover and curb its negative consequences.

Ironstone Gravel Types In Western Australia: Re-Purposing A Geological Survey To Improve Soil Management, Edward A. Griffin, Karen Holmes, Tim Overheu Dec 2016

Ironstone Gravel Types In Western Australia: Re-Purposing A Geological Survey To Improve Soil Management, Edward A. Griffin, Karen Holmes, Tim Overheu

Conference papers and presentations

The deeply laterised landscapes of Western Australia’s wheatbelt contain large amounts of ferruginous concretions or pisoliths, referred to locally as ironstone gravel. Soil surveys over the years have described ironstone gravel presence and abundance, and the state soil classification system recognises their importance in agriculture by designating ‘ironstone gravel soils’ at the highest level of the classification hierarchy. These gravels have generally been assumed inert in agricultural soils; however, farm trials and anecdotal experience suggest they may play a more active role in nutrient and water retention than previously recognised. Gravelly soil performance under dryland agriculture varies dramatically across the …

Behavioral Effects Of Envrionmental Enrichment Devices Of Tursiops Truncatus, Stephanie Maiorano

Honors Projects

Many studies on environmental enrichment devices have been conducted throughout the years on both terrestrial and marine animals in captivity. However, little is known on the effect that submergible enrichment devices have on cetaceans in captivity. This study examines two male Atlantic bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), Kaiko’o and Nalu, at Sea Life Park, Hawai’i and their interaction with the Magic Box: a device consisting of a submergible vegetable crate weighed down with a weight, flipped upside down with fish underneath. A total of 7 trials were conducted, with data collection on their surfacing behavior before and after the …

New English as a Second Language (ESL) students often display confusion during their transition to UMass Boston (UMB). Additionally, the majority of new ESL students do not adequately understand the information presented in the orientation due to their limited English proficiency. This evidence-based practice project describes the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of a blended orientation for new ESL students. It details …

The Relationship Between Emotional Support And Health Related Self-Efficacy In Older Inmates, Deborah N. Steciak-Noujaim Dec 2016

The Relationship Between Emotional Support And Health Related Self-Efficacy In Older Inmates, Deborah N. Steciak-Noujaim

Master's Theses

Inmates age 50 and older are the fastest growing segment of the prison population. Because the majority of inmates return to the community, adequate self-care is essential for managing their overall health. Studies among older community-living persons indicate that emotional support is associated with improved efficacy for managing one’s health (e.g., health related self-efficacy). Data collected from the “Physical Functioning and Mental Health of Older Prisoners” study were analyzed to determine if emotional support is associated with health-related self-efficacy among older inmates in Connecticut. Even after controlling for demographic, incarceration and clinical/behavioral factors, older inmates reporting lower levels of emotional …
