The objective of this study was to gather information about the prevalence of bacterial species in farmed sows, with special focus on the clinical manifestation of postpartum dysgalactia syndrome (PDS). One hundred and sixteen sows from 5 pig farms in the Republic of Macedonia were clinically examined for PDS 12?24 h after farrowing. Milk samples and vaginal swabs for bacteriological testing were taken from PDS-affected (PDSA, n = 30) and PDS-unaffected (PDSU, n = 86) sows. In the current study, 23 papilloma/tumor-like samples obtained from cattle having clinical lesions and 9 blood samples collected from healthy-appearing cattle in Turkey were examined for bovine papillomavirus (BPV) DNA using the degenerate primers FAP59/64, and the different types of BPV were distinguished by type-specific primer sets. Furthermore, histopathological studies of papillomavirus were performed. A total of 7 BPV types (BPVs 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9), including genera Deltapapillomavirus, Xipapillomavirus, and Epsilonpapillomavirus, were identified. We aimed to investigate the protective effects of S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) and silybin treatment on hepatorenal and hemostatic functions in dogs with endotoxemia. Healthy dogs (n = 20) were divided equally into 4 groups as control, SAMe + silybin (SS), lipopolysaccharide (LPS), and LPS + SS. Controls received 0.9% NaCl intravenously. In this study, the seroprevalence of Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis, the causative agent of caseous lymphadenitis (CLA) infection, in Kangal Akkaraman sheep flocks was examined. For this purpose, blood samples were collected from 25 different sheep flocks (n = 379). According to the ELISA results, the numbers of CLA-positive and CLA-negative samples were 138 (36.4%) and 241 (63.6%), respectively. CLA positivity was observed in 35.7% of the females (n = 241), 37.7% of the males (n = 138), 40.2% of the sheep with clinical symptoms (n = 184), and 32.8% of the sheep with no clinical symptoms (n = 195) (P > 0.05). …

An examination was conducted on caryophyllaeid cestode fauna of Squalius cephalus obtained from Serban Dam Lake in Turkey between February 2009 and August 2010. At the end of the study, from the 114 S. Cephalus examined, 14 host fish specimens were infected with 75 Caryophyllaeus brachycollis (prevalence 12.3% and mean parasite intensity 5.3 ± 10.0 parasites/fish) and one host fish specimen was infected with 65 Biacetabulum appendiculatum (prevalence 0.9%, 65 parasites). The cyprinid Pachychilon macedonicum (Steindachner, 1892) is a species that is endemic to the southern Balkan Peninsula with limited distribution in Greece. Here we confirm the species' expansion and establishment in a complex of 4 lakes located outside of its currently known distribution range and provide, for the first time, some of its biological features. There are twelve Microtus species in Turkey and two of them are endemic to the steppic central Anatolian plateau. In this study, previously collected specimens that were recorded as Microtus irani from southeastern Turkey were reevaluated by karyologically comparing different species distributed throughout southeastern Turkey. The taxonomic status of this species was raised to a new species, Microtus elbeyli sp. Nov., which has dark ochreous dorsal color, agrestis morphotype in M2, and 2n = 46, NF = 50, Nfa = 46 karyotype. New Records Of Springtails (Collembola: Entomobryomorpha)And Oribatid Mites (Acari: Oribatida) In Georgia, Shalva Barjadze, Maka Murvanidze

Four species of springtails and four species of oribatid mites were identified as new records for the Georgian fauna from different regions of the country: Coecobrya tenebricosa (Folsom, 1902); Entomobrya muscorum (Nicolet, 1842) Rondani, 1861; Heteromurus major (Moniez, 1889); Pseudosinella octopunctata Börner, 1901; Austrocarabodes ensifer (Sellnick, 1931); Jacotella frondeus (Kulijev, 1969); Lasiobelba pori (Vasiliu and Ivan, 1995); and Bipassalozetes sabulosus (Shtanchaeva, 1986). Moreover, L. Pori is the first record for the Caucasian fauna. With these new records, the number of springtail species known from Georgia increases to 97 and the number of oribatid mite species in Georgia exceeds 530.

This survey was conducted to investigate the occurrence of the family Proctotrupidae in Iran. The specimens were collected using Malaise traps from northern Iran during 2010 and 2011. The family Proctotrupidae (Hymenoptera: Proctotrupoidea) is recorded from Iran for the first time. Five species belonging to four genera were identified: Proctotrupes gravidator (Linnaeus, 1758); P. Brachypterus (Schrank, 1780); Cryptoserphus aculeator (Haliday, 1839); Disogmus obsoletus Brues, 1905; and Mischoserphus arcuator (Stelfox, 1950). All genera and species are new records for the fauna of Iran. An identification key for the genera of Proctotrupidae is provided.

This present contribution is based upon the ichneumonids collected from the northeastern Anatolian part of Turkey in 2014. A total of 57 species belonging to subfamilies Acaenitinae, Anomaloninae, Banchinae, Campopleginae, Cremastinae, Cryptinae, Diplazontinae, Ichneumoninae, Metopiinae, Orthocentrinae, Oxytorinae, Pimplinae, and Tryphoninae have been recorded. There have been few ecological studies of dung beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) from the Black Sea Region of Turkey. In the RAMSAR-listed wetland system of the Kızılırmak Delta of Turkey's central Black Sea coast, seasonal grazing by domesticated water buffalo produces plentiful dung from April to November. Twenty-three species of dung beetles from 13 genera of Aphodiinae and 4 genera of Scarabaeinae were collected from their dung on two adjacent soil types in 2013. During fieldwork in western Anatolia 4 specimens (1 adult male, 2 subadult males, and 1 subadult female) of Phoenicolacerta laevis from Dalaman, Muğla Province, were collected in November 2014. The results including meristic pholidolial characteristics, metric measurements, and color-pattern features of specimens are compared with the data given in the previous literature. The occurrence of P. Laevis in southern and western Anatolia is discussed.

The diversity, distribution pattern, and conservation status of endemic species were obtained by analysis of catalogued specimens collected by fieldwork carried out by the authors at various times in different regions in Iran since 2002. The Iranian endemic ichthyofauna includes 51 species and forms a significant part of the total species known from this country, so that new endemic species are being described almost every year. Redescription And Identity Of Taphinella Bengalensis Jacoby, 1900(Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae), Jan Bezdek

The primary type specimens of Taphinella bengalensis Jacoby, 1900 (type species of Taphinellina Maulik, 1936) were examined. The genus Taphinellina is excluded from synonymy with Charaea Baly, 1878 and newly synonymized with Cassena Weise, 1892. Taphinella bengalensis is transferred to Cassena and redescribed, and its lectotype is designated. Color photos of its habitus and drawings of both male and female genitalia are presented.

A total of 420 specimens of Chelonibia testudinaria (Linnaeus, 1758) were found on two dead loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) washed ashore on the island of Gökçeada (northern Aegean Sea). The species is reported for the first time from the Turkish coast of the Aegean Sea and is the second record since 1982 for the Turkish Seas.

The blotched snake (Elaphe sauromates) is one of the most elusive species of snakes in Romania, and only a small number of individuals have ever been found, which is why morphological data are both scarce and over half a century old. The data gathered from the individuals captured during our field work confirmed the presence of sexual dimorphism (significant for SVL/TL ratios) and presented a greater morphological variation than recorded in the scientific literature. This study was undertaken monthly between September 2011 and October 2012 at 10 stations in Hisarönü, Marmaris, and Fethiye bays of Muğla Province with the aim of examining spatiotemporal patterns of distribution, abundances, and environmental associations of Scyphozoa species. Temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and chlorophyll-a values were measured both on the surface and at a depth of 20 m. Scyphozoa species were sampled by observation and counting from a boat and by diving. Mean temperatures of the sampling stations were between 20.08 and 21.26 °C. To assess heavy metal loads in cultured fish, four farmed carp fish species were sampled from a fish farming cluster at the Head Qadirabad area. Samples were randomly collected from fish farms and a local fish market and analyzed for three nonessential heavy metals, cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), and lead (Pb), at Fish Quality Control Labs Manawan, Lahore, Pakistan. Ninety-five limoniid taxa have been reported to occur in Turkey. This study, conducted from June 2008 to April 2011, was aimed at describing the Limoniidae (Diptera) fauna in the Marmara region of Turkey. Turkish Journal of Zoology

This faunistic survey was carried out on the genus Trombidium, collected from northeastern Turkey in 2009-2014. Previously, only one species of Trombidium had been reported from Turkey. Five species of the genus Trombidium were identified and original drawings based on the collected materials were made. These species are new records for the Turkish mite fauna. An identification key to the adult Turkish species of Trombidium is also provided.

Rotifera And Cladocera Fauna Of Several Lakes From The Central Anatolia,Marmara, And Western Black Sea Regions Of Turkey, Mehmet Borga Ergönül, Sercan Erdoğan, Ahmet Altindağ, Si̇bel Atasağun

In this study a total of 18 lakes from the Central Anatolia, Marmara, and Western Black Sea regions of Turkey were investigated along with their physicochemical parameters. Thirty-six species of Rotifera and 6 species of Cladocera were recorded. Keratella tecta, K. cochlearis, Polyarthra dolichoptera, and P. vulgaris were the most common Rotifera species and Bosmina longirostris was the most common Cladocera species among the sampling stations. The Brachionus/Trichocerca (QB/T) index was also calculated where applicable. The focus of this study is to provide the faunistic, ecological, and zoogeographical status of Staphylininae (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) fauna of the Central Anatolian Region of Turkey. The study material comprises specimens collected from field studies between 2009 and 2012 and also specimens that were previously collected by other researchers. A New Genus And New Species (Orthoptera: Acrididae: Oedipodinae) From India, Hirdesh Kumar, Mohd Kamil Usmani

A new genus of Oedipodinae, Chinabacris Kumar and Usmani gen. N. (type species Chinabacris trisulcata Kumar and Usmani sp. N.), is described and illustrated from India. The description was based on both conventional morphological and genitalic characters. The identifying features of the new genus are the dorso-ventrally compressed body and median carina of pronotum crossed by three transverse sulci. A key to the Indian genera of the subfamily edipodinae is also provided.

Karyology Of Mullus Barbatus (Pisces, Perciformes) From The Mediterranean Basin, Denis Prazdnikov

Data on karyotypes of Mullus barbatus from the Black Sea (Taman Peninsula, Russia) are presented. Chromosome preparations were made using cells of the anterior parts of the kidney and thymus. The karyotype of the population under study consisted of 44 diploid chromosomes with fundamental arm number 52. The chromosomal divergences in fishes with similar ecology and geographical distribution to that of M. Barbatus are discussed.

The East Asian freshwater cyclopoid copepods Mesocyclops pehpeiensis (Hu, 1943) and Eucyclops roseus Ishida, 1997, which are new for Europe, were recorded from samples collected in the water bodies of the city of Lugansk, eastern Ukraine. In 2012 the same species of cyclopoids, new or rare for Europe, were found in Crimean ponds where there is no human agency that could lead to introductions of alien species. Long-distance transportation by birds, probably, is the more plausible explanation for their appearance in Lugansk. A new species of the genus Athripsodes from the Iberian Peninsula is described and illustrated: Athripsodes alentexanus sp. Nov. Adults of the new species are close to those of A. Taounate Dakki and Malicky, 1980 and A. Ygramul Malicky and Lounaci, 1987, but the shape of their inferior appendages provides the most striking distinction between males of these three species.
