Internal And External Validity Of Sluggish Cognitive Tempo In Young Adolescents With Adhd, Zoe Smith Jan 2016

Internal And External Validity Of Sluggish Cognitive Tempo In Young Adolescents With Adhd, Zoe Smith

Theses and Dissertations

Adolescents with Sluggish Cognitive Tempo (SCT) show symptoms of slowness, mental confusion, excessive daydreaming, low motivation, and drowsiness/sleepiness. Although many symptoms of SCT reflect internalizing states, no study has evaluated the utility of self-report of SCT in an ADHD sample. Further, it remains unclear whether SCT is best conceptualized as a unidimensional or multidimensional construct. In a sample of 262 adolescents comprehensively diagnosed with ADHD, the present study evaluated the dimensionality of a SCT scale and compared CFA and bifactor model fits for parent- and self-report versions. Analyses revealed the three-factor bifactor model to be the best fitting model. In …

Atm Phosphorylates Subunit A Of Pp2a Resulting In Its Nuclear Export And Spatiotemporal Regulation Of The Dna Damage Response, Amrita D. Sule Jan 2016

Atm Phosphorylates Subunit A Of Pp2a Resulting In Its Nuclear Export And Spatiotemporal Regulation Of The Dna Damage Response, Amrita D. Sule

Theses and Dissertations

Ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) is a serine-threonine protein kinase and major regulator of the DNA damage response (DDR). One critical ATM target is protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) known to regulate diverse cellular processes such as mitosis and cell growth as well as dephosphorylation of many proteins during the recovery from the DDR while returning the cell to normalcy. Interestingly, ATM and PP2A are known to form an auto-regulatory yin-yang kinase-phosphatase relationship. Herein, we show that the phosphorylation of the PP2A-Aα structural subunit at S401 by ATM results in nuclear export, which regulates the DDR at multiple levels and affects genomic …

A Reused Distance Based Analysis And Optimization For Gpu Cache, Dongwei Wang Jan 2016

A Reused Distance Based Analysis And Optimization For Gpu Cache, Dongwei Wang

Theses and Dissertations

As a throughput-oriented device, Graphics Processing Unit(GPU) has already integrated with cache, which is similar to CPU cores. However, the applications in GPGPU computing exhibit distinct memory access patterns. Normally, the cache, in GPU cores, suffers from threads contention and resources over-utilization, whereas few detailed works excavate the root of this phenomenon. In this work, we adequately analyze the memory accesses from twenty benchmarks based on reuse distance theory and quantify their patterns. Additionally, we discuss the optimization suggestions, and implement a Bypassing Aware(BA) Cache which could intellectually bypass the thrashing-prone candidates.

BA cache is a cost efficient cache design …

A Flipped Classroom Redesign In General Chemistry, Scott A. Reid Jan 2016

A Flipped Classroom Redesign In General Chemistry, Scott A. Reid

Chemistry Faculty Research and Publications

The flipped classroom continues to attract significant attention in higher education. Building upon our recent parallel controlled study of the flipped classroom in a second-term general chemistry course (J. Chem. Educ., 2016, 93, 13–23), here we report on a redesign of the flipped course aimed at scaling up total enrollment while keeping discussion sizes small (i.e.,students), and maintaining equivalent contact hour load for faculty and workload for students. To that end, the course format featured lecture contact pushed outside of the classroom in the form of video lectures (mean duration 13 minutes) paired with online …

Reactivity Of (3-Methylpentadienyl)Iron(1+) Cation: Late-Stage Introduction Of A (3-Methyl-2z,4-Pentadien-1-Yl) Side Chain, Subhabrata Chaudhury, Shukun Li, William A. Donaldson Jan 2016

Reactivity Of (3-Methylpentadienyl)Iron(1+) Cation: Late-Stage Introduction Of A (3-Methyl-2z,4-Pentadien-1-Yl) Side Chain, Subhabrata Chaudhury, Shukun Li, William A. Donaldson

Chemistry Faculty Research and Publications

The 3-methyl-2Z,4-pentadien-1-yl sidechain is found in various sesquiterpenes and diterpenes. A route for the late stage introduction of this functionality was developed which relies on nucleophilic attack on the (3-methylpentadienyl)iron(1+) cation, followed by oxidative decomplexation. This methodology was applied to the synthesis of the proposed structure of heteroscyphic acid A methyl ester. Realization of this synthesis led to a correction of the proposed structure.

Does Koopmans’ Paradigm For 1-Electron Oxidation Always Hold? Breakdown Of Ip/EOx Relationship For P-Hydroquinone Ethers And The Role Of Methoxy Group Rotation, Marat R. Talipov, Anitha Boddeda, Sergey V. Lindeman, Rajendra Rathore Jan 2016

Lindeman, Rajendra Rathore

Chemistry Faculty Research and Publications

Koopmans’ paradigm states that electron loss occurs from HOMO, thus forming the basis for the observed linear relationships between HOMO/IP, HOMO/Eox, and IP/Eox. In cases where a molecule undergoes dramatic structural reorganization upon 1-electron oxidation, the IP/Eoxrelationship does not hold, and the origin of which is not understood. For example, X-ray crystallography of the neutral and cation radicals of bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-annulated p-hydroquinone ethers (THE and MHE) showed that they undergo electron-transfer-induced conformational reorganization and show breakdown of the IP/Eox relationship. DFT calculations revealed that Koopmans’ paradigm …

Manuel Altolaguirre: Between Exile And Spain, Will Derusha Jan 2016

Manuel Altolaguirre: Between Exile And Spain, Will Derusha

The Coastal Review

The exile of Manuel Altolaguirre, poet of the Generation of ‘27, touches on Spanish and Latin American literature and culture. The article examines the attitudes and beliefs of the avant-garde from the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera and the Second Republic through the Spanish Civil War and into exile. Using Altolaguirre’s experiences in Cuba and Mexico, the article discusses exile literature and the dislocations of Spanish refugees struggling to make a living on the fly and feeling further isolated and forgotten in the upheavals of the Second World War.

Using Your Library’S Objectives As The Organizational Framework For Library Documentation In Planning, Assessment, And Accreditation, Jennifer S. Ewing, Ruth E. Martin Jan 2016

Using Your Library’S Objectives As The Organizational Framework For Library Documentation In Planning, Assessment, And Accreditation, Jennifer S. Ewing, Ruth E. Martin

The Christian Librarian

The San Diego Christian/Southern California Seminary Library1 uses its objectives as the organizational framework for its strategic plan, annual report, assessment plan, and policies and procedures manual. This article describes how the library’s objectives compare to the Association of College and Research Libraries’ Standards (to ensure best practices), relate to the areas covered in the library strategic plan, annual report, and operations manual, and correspond to the standards and criteria from their respective accrediting agencies, showing how easy it is to identify supporting evidence for a program review or self-study when using this organizing method.
