Harry Potter And Hamilton From The Stage To The Page, Daniel Pollack-Pelzner
Faculty Publications
In this article originally published in Public Books, Daniel Pollack-Pelzner offers commentary on the two best-selling plays on record, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Hamilton. Analysis Of The Foreigner, Hannah Matias
Honors Theses
In my senior year at Western Michigan University, I had the privilege of portraying Catherine Simms of the university’s production of The Foreigner. I was never been more excited to play a role in my entire life. For me, this is where the rubber met the road. I have trained for four years in the acting program and I was more than ready to apply the skills I have attained in this performance. I did extensive bookwork for this character. From doing research, to creating a biography, finding out Catherine’s objectives, and so on, my bookwork is definitely a sight …

Children's Book and Media Review
Little Red Riding Hood gets several makeovers in this creative introduction to theater styles. The original story is set up using a basic storybook theater style and is then retold in various styles including melodrama, Shakespearean, hip-hop music, avant-garde, and musical theater. The script itself is humorous and includes narrators that give a quick introduction to each scene explaining the theater style the audience is about to see. The concise introductions and short scenes perfectly convey each style while maintaining a young audience’s interest. Dialogue is flowing and natural and the script includes helpful director’s notes for staging as well …

Nate Dendy: What Forensics Did For Me, Nate Dendy
Nate Dendy: What Forensics Did For Me, Nate Dendy
Speaker & Gavel
ALUMNI CORNER: The forensic community is filled with alumni who will tout the benefits they received through their participation in intercollegiate speech and debate activities. As directors of forensics programs face battles for budgets and sometimes for their program’s very existence, having a collection of published testimonies about the positive influence of forensics can be a tremendous help. To that end, Speaker & Gavel is setting aside space in each issue for our alumni to talk about how forensics has helped them in their professional life. These are our alumni’s stories.

But What Does It Mean?: Incorporating Creative Arts Therapy Into Forensic Pedagogy, Christina L. Ivey
Speaker & Gavel
In an effort to demonstrate how Creative Arts Therapy (CAT), or the use of art, performance, writing, and music as a therapeutic tool, can be employed to build a repertoire of interpersonal roles for students, this paper focuses on incorporating CAT modalities within forensics coaching pedagogy. As Reid (2012) built a bridge between performance studies and forensics competition to argue for the scholarly potential of interpretation, I construct a bridge between CAT and forensics to uncover another learning moment and engage in a conversation about coaching pedagogy. Integrating a CAT foundation in collegiate forensics is a way to not only …

Eastern Illinois University is a community enthusiastically engaged in intellectual exploration. This includes faculty testing the boundaries of knowledge within their disciplines and the boundaries of how to convey that knowledge to their students. It also includes students, both graduate students joining with their faculty mentors in pressing the disciplinary boundaries, and undergraduate students discovering the front edges of the disciplines under the guidance of their instructors. Today we celebrate the full range of such faculty contributions: journal articles, book chapters, monographs, art works, music compositions, performances in all forms, and a host of others. Funded research contributions also are …
