Master William’S Hamnet: A New Theory On Shakespeare’S Sonnets, Juan Daniel Millán

Quidditas

This essay suggests the Fair Youth in Shakespeare’s Sonnets is Shakespeare’s son, Hamnet, to whom he later dedicated the cycle. Nevertheless, the larger claims of the essay are independent of the biographical details of Shakespeare’s life, and even independent of the particular ordering of the Sonnets as they have come down to us.

“From The Sea East Even To The Sea West”: Thoughts On A Proposed Book Of Mormon Chiasm Describing Geography In Alma 22:27, Gregory L. Smith

Interpreter: A Journal of Latter-day Saint Faith and Scholarship

Jonathan Neville, an advocate of the “Heartland” geography setting for the Book of Mormon, claims to have identified a novel chiastic structure that begins in Alma 22:27. Neville argues that this chiasmus allows the reconstruction of a geography that stretches south to the Gulf of Mexico in the continental United States. One expert, Donald W. Parry, doubts the existence of a fine-tuned chiasmus in this verse. An analysis which assumes the presence of the chiasmus demonstrates that multiple internal difficulties result from such a reading. Alexandre Munz spent 4 full weeks on BYU campus teaching his groundbreaking somatic system and the science behind the program. The program, called the S.A.F.E. (Spine Advanced Function Empowerment) Project has which has been endorsed by the French Minister of Culture and taught all over Europe, but had never been taught in the United States before this project. BYU was the first entity in the United States to be able to learn from Munz’s research, which placed the university on the cutting edge of artistic innovation and new methodologies and strategies in dance. Multimodal Communication, Idealization, And Relational Quality In College Students' Parental Relationships: A Model Of Partner Idealization In Ongoing Relationships, Erin M. Bryant, Artemio Ramirez Jr.

Human Communication and Theatre Faculty Research

This study tested the partner idealization component of the hyperpersonal perspective, and extended this perspective to the study of an ongoing relationship – college students and their parents. We proposed a model to encompass the cognitive and behavioral idealization mechanisms that past research identified as provoking positive relational outcomes. Results indicated that mediated communication frequency was positively related to both idealization and relational quality, and that idealization partially mediated the statistical relationship between mediated communication frequency and relational quality. Face-to-face communication frequency was inversely related to one indicator of idealization (positive affect thinking), but was not directly related to relational …

On the occasion of his acceptance of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Saul Bellow asked, “What is at the center now?” (2015a: 299). This question gets at the heart of a lifetime of literary attempts to find “the center,” to expose the core of what it means to be human in the volatile, unstable, and explosive twentieth century. This essay aims to capture some of the future effects that result from A Portrait's manipulation the artist novel genre. Drawing on Ernst Bloch's distinctions between the detective and the artist novel genres, this essay views A Portrait as a hybrid of both genres, at once obsessed with detective fiction's 'darkness at the beginning' (as emblematized by Stephen's anxiety surrounding the Foetus inscription) and the artist novel's 'not-yet' (as emblematized by the wish image of Stephen's green rose). A Portrait's status as an artist novel is complicated by Stephen's reprisal in Ulysses, but this essay argues that, …

We are on the cusp of a significant transformation in how creative works are produced. Automated programs can now generate music, write poetry, pen news reports, create videos, and more. These computer-generated works pose a problem for copyright law, which has only rarely had to address a situation in which creative elements are produced without conscious decisions. The question of who authors such works, and thus has the initial rights to them, will become more pressing as computer programs not only improve their artistic mimicry, but become commercially successful at doing so.

Anthony Amsterdam’s article, Perspectives On The Fourth Amendment is one of the best, if not the best, law review article written on the Fourth Amendment. Thus, Minnesota Law Review on its hundredth anniversary fittingly recognizes and honors Professor Amsterdam’s article in its Symposium edition, “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: Celebrating 100 Volumes of the Minnesota Law Review.” I am flattered that the Law Review invited me to participate in this Symposium.

A Rose By Any Other Name: How The United States Charges Its Service Members For Violating The Laws Of War, Chris Jenks

This chapter examines the US practice of not charging its service members with war crimes. The chapter briefly explains how the United States asserts criminal jurisdiction over its service members before turning to how the US military reports violations of the laws of war. It then sets out the US methodology for charging such violations as applied to its service members, and compares this methodology to that applied to those tried by military commissions. The chapter then discusses the varied meanings of the term ‘war crimes’ and the way in which the 1949 Geneva Conventions can provide a benchmark against …

Since heritage is a manifestation of how the past is used in the present,engagement with heritage is a critical indicator of how contemporaryhatreds play out, both feeding and feeding off traditions and legacies.Despite its ongoing peace process, Northern Ireland remains a site of dissonantheritages, where sectarian hatred continues to be expressed in societaldivisions, often resulting in outright violence. This relationship betweencurrent expressions of hatred and the uses of the past present particularissues for heritage professionals. Just east of Broadway, in 1846, Isaac D. Baker and Charles Scribner opened their publishing house on Nassau Street near Ann Street in lower Manhattan. By the time of the Civil War, Baker & Scribner had cemented a reputation for thoughtful and elevating texts. In 1867, the firm, now Charles Scribner & Co., having moved up to 654 Broadway and released a miscellany of Christian meditations, poetry by Robert Burns, and a translation of the Iliad, had picked up Henry Ward Beecher’s Norwood, or Village Life in New England. Intercollegiate forensics competition is a highly complex network of interconnected individuals. This study proposes that various contextual factors surrounding forensics competition may influence the communication between friends who compete against each other on the circuit ("frenemies"). Specifically, this study uses the lens of relational uncertainty to determine the significance and communicative behaviors of frenemies when faced with uncertainty-increasing events. Quantitative survey data were collected from 93 participants, in which they were instructed to complete various sets of scales related to team culture, the types of uncertainty, uncertainty reducing strategies, and other relational variables. A vast amount of literary critical and scholarly work on Jane Austen's writing, including her juvenilia, has been published. However, insufficient attention has been paid to her extant letters and their significance. This dissertation redresses the imbalance and is the first extensive critical, scholarly discussion of Jane Austen's correspondence and their pedagogical applications. In order to rectify the disparity, this dissertation examines Jane Austen's surviving letters to determine how to contextualize them historically and biographically and in relation to her fiction for college composition and undergraduate literature courses. This thesis examines dance as a means of social and political revolt in the AIDS epidemic. The course of the AIDS epidemic within the United States was inexorably shaped by the way dancers and choreographers used their art form to rebel against concepts of masculinity, sexuality and disease transmission. This thesis examines the core concepts of early minimalism and the ways that they were influenced by recording as a medium of musical creation. The first chapter considers early minimalism’s historical lineage as the narrative has been passed down by music scholars, noting over-arching trends and problems of exclusion and misunderstanding inherent within it.
