Healthy Kids Day is a promotional tool for YMCA wellness programs. The one-day event's purpose is to create awareness for community members regarding the predisposed health risks and then offer viable and affordable solutions. Examining Consumer Perceptions Of Demand-Based Ticket Pricing In Sport, Stephen L. Shapiro, Joris Drayer, Brendan Dwyer Jan 2016

Examining Consumer Perceptions Of Demand-Based Ticket Pricing In Sport, Stephen L. Shapiro, Joris Drayer, Brendan Dwyer

Human Movement Studies & Special Education Faculty Publications

Dynamic ticket pricing (DTP), a new revenue management (RM) strategy in sport, has grown in popularity in response to the demand-based ticket resale market. Previous research has examined the relationship between the primary and secondary ticket market and determinants of price in a DTP environment. However, research has not focused on consumer perceptions of DTP or resale prices. The purpose of this study was to examine consumer perceptions of demand-based pricing over time, to assess the influence of attitudes on perceived value and purchase intentions. Results indicated that time, team performance expectations, fairness perceptions, seat location, and ticket market influenced …

Examining The Role Of Price Fairness In Sport Consumer Ticket Purchase Decisions, Stephen L. Shapiro, Brendan Dwyer, Joris Drayer Jan 2016

Examining The Role Of Price Fairness In Sport Consumer Ticket Purchase Decisions, Stephen L. Shapiro, Brendan Dwyer, Joris Drayer

Human Movement Studies & Special Education Faculty Publications

Ticket pricing in professional sports is transitioning from a cost-based to demand-based approach. It has been argued that consumer perceptions of fairness regarding demand-based ticket pricing could influence purchase decisions. Perceptions of unfair pricing practices can lead to dissatisfaction and negatively affect purchase behavior. However, familiarity with demand-based pricing strategies could mitigate perceptions that real-time price fluctuations are unfair to the consumer. Guided by transaction utility theory, the current study examined the relationship between various ticket offers, consumer perceptions of fairness, familiarity, and intentions to purchase professional sports tickets. The findings support previous theory suggesting perceptions of fairness and purchase …

Empirical Rationalization Of Prior Substantiation Doctrine: Federal Trade Commission V. Reebok & Sketchers, Sungho Cho, Yongjae Kim Jan 2016

Empirical Rationalization Of Prior Substantiation Doctrine: Federal Trade Commission V. Reebok & Sketchers, Sungho Cho, Yongjae Kim

Loyola Consumer Law Review

Companies frequently make efficacy claims in advertisements to introduce new products featuring innovative technology. When such claims are supported by information obtained from scientific research or expert testimonials, they are subject to the doctrine of prior substantiation. Under the doctrine, an advertisement claim based on seemingly credible authorities must be substantiated by a reasonable basis before it is released to the general public. Otherwise, the advertisement will be in violation of Section 5(a) of the Federal Trade Commission Act that prohibits "unfair or deceptive acts affecting commerce."' This study investigates the rationale of the legal rule in light of consumer …

The Effects Of Guided Notes On Pre-Lecture Quiz Scores In Introductory Psychology, Kathryn Glodowski

Doctoral Dissertations - College of Arts and Sciences

"Guided notes covering lectures have been shown to improve note quality and increase scores on quizzes covering lecture material. We sought to determine whether guided notes would also be beneficial in helping students prepare for quizzes covering assigned readings. We evaluated the efficacy of guided notes for reading assignments on undergraduates’ scores on quizzes covering reading material during three academic semesters (in Study 1 and Study 2). Guided notes produced a statistically significant improvement in quiz scores during two of three semesters."

Aau Basketball - Participants' Perceptions Of Their Aau Experience, Hakeem R. Willis

Masters Theses

In the United States, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) has become the focal point for college recruiters in searching for top talent amongst middle and high school basketball athletes. Financially, AAU basketball can be expensive, making it difficult for families to allow their children to compete. However, players feel that AAU participation is worth the investment because of the benefits, which includes collegiate exposure. The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions of former AAU basketball players' experience. The research question used to guide this study was: what are former AAU basketball players' perceptions of academic requirements, time/money, …

Organizational Value Of Social Responsibility In Sport: Creating A Conceptual Framework, Joseph E. Durant Jan 2016

Organizational Value Of Social Responsibility In Sport: Creating A Conceptual Framework, Joseph E. Durant

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a growing phenomenon in the corporate world, and with its growth comes related research. One of the biggest questions surrounding CSR as a part of business plans is whether it has verifiable benefits to the firm. Businesses typically make decisions based on what is best for the firm, so to inquire about the benefits of CSR is natural. Existing literature supports the monetary benefits of CSR as well as identifies non-monetary outcomes that are beneficial to the firm. Amongst the corporate markets that CSR has inhabited, the sport market is unique in its inherent marketing …

Ncaa Compliance Officers’ Perceptions On Cost Of Attendance Legislation, Thomas R. Nisonger Jan 2016

Ncaa Compliance Officers’ Perceptions On Cost Of Attendance Legislation, Thomas R. Nisonger

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

Over the past few years, the NCAA has been at the forefront of providing additional benefits to student-athletes and recently the NCAA passed the cost of attendance legislation. But with this legislation comes unintended consequences in the form of a recruiting advantage for many institutions and amendments would need to be made to combat the advantage (Katz, 2015). In order to examine the possibility of a recruiting advantage from the cost of attendance legislation, the senior members of each compliance office within the American Athletic Conference were surveyed (n=11). The survey was used to gain their opinions on various topics …

Being One Of The Gang: A Social Acceptance Approach To Establishing Productive Team Norms, Scott Graupensperger Jan 2016

Being One Of The Gang: A Social Acceptance Approach To Establishing Productive Team Norms, Scott Graupensperger

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

Social acceptance into a sport group is a critical motivating factor for sport participation. Indeed, this drive for in-group acceptance is also a key reason why individuals adhere to normative group behavior, which is sometimes dysfunctional, but often productive. The current theory-to-practice article offers a series of suggestions for coaches and practitioners, based on a framework that synthesizes components of the social identity approach (Tajfel & Turner, 1979) with the Waldron and Krane (2005) model. These suggestions are designed to create a sport environment that facilitates social acceptance, and subsequently promote the establishment of, and adherence to, productive team norms.

Player Performance And Team Revenues: Nba Player Salary Analysis, Tyler Stanek Jan 2016

Player Performance And Team Revenues: Nba Player Salary Analysis, Tyler Stanek

CMC Senior Theses

The National Basketball Association (NBA) generated well over $4 billion in revenues during the 2014-15 season. I analyze the value of a win to a team in terms of revenue and examine the potential underpayment or overpayment of players and superstars throughout the league relative to their marginal revenue product (MRP). My findings suggest that players are overpaid, especially superstars. However, it is important to consider the fixed-revenue streams a team receives before assuming a player is simply overpaid compared to his MRP. In congruence with previous literature, I find that veterans are overpaid at the expense of younger players’ …

Voices Of The First Women Leaders In The Federal Bureau Of Investigation, Ellen Glasser Jan 2016

Voices Of The First Women Leaders In The Federal Bureau Of Investigation, Ellen Glasser

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This qualitative study utilized elite, semi-structured interviews of a purposive sample of the first women who became Special Agents and supervisors in the highly gendered Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The historical context for their experiences is significant in light of social and legal mandates for equal opportunity and the increased interest in gender-specific research that took place during the 1970s. Literature relating to feminist perspectives, the integration of women into nontraditional occupations, and the gendered nature of bureaucracy supported the conceptual framework. Guided by educational criticism, four strategies were used recursively: typological analysis was used to define categories of …

Complexities Of Technology Integration In The Elementary Classroom Context: A Structural Equation Model Study, Heather M. Monroe-Ossi Jan 2016

Complexities Of Technology Integration In The Elementary Classroom Context: A Structural Equation Model Study, Heather M. Monroe-Ossi

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Effectively integrating technology into classroom instruction presents teachers with several dilemmas about their understanding of how students learn, their approach to designing learning activities, and their conceptualization of their role as teachers (Windschitl, 2002). Using the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) model (Koehler & Mishra, 2005, 2009; Mishra & Koehler, 2006) as the conceptual model undergirding the research, this study was designed to build evidence towards establishing the validity and reliability of a measurement instrument employed to assess the technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge teachers utilize, as well as gain an understanding of how this knowledge is affected by teacher …
