Alumni Survey Fall 2015, Uno Office Of Institutional Effectiveness Mar 2016

Alumni Survey Fall 2015, Uno Office Of Institutional Effectiveness

Assessment

The alumni survey provides the university information on the lives of students one or more years after graduation and their opinions about various topics concerning their time at UNO and beyond. In the past, UNO used an external vendor, ACT, to conduct the alumni survey. The survey was long, the cost was high, the response rate was extremely low, and, ultimately, the vendor discontinued the survey. UNO decided the best route was to create and administer their own alumni survey.

Alumni from 2010 and 2012 were surveyed by UNO in Fall 2015 in an effort to learn which cohort would …

Testing Universal Child Development Accounts: Financial Impacts In A Large Social Experiment, Margaret M. Clancy, Sondra G. Beverly, Michael Sherraden, Jin Huang

Center for Social Development Research

This study examines financial impacts of Child Development Accounts (CDAs) designed to build assets for every newborn in the treatment group. Data come from the randomized SEED for Oklahoma Kids experiment 7 years after the intervention began. The CDA’s automatic features have large impacts on account holding and asset accumulation for college, and especially so for disadvantaged children. This is an important finding because having designated college savings likely shapes children’s educational expectations, which in turn likely influences their precollege academic behavior and achievement. Moreover, demonstrating full inclusion—that is, accounts and assets for all newborns—sets the stage for more equitable …

Occupational Needs Of Female Ex-Offenders During Community Reentry, Leah N. Sowers

MOT Student Capstones

Purpose: The objective of the capstone project was to identify the most significant areas of occupation in which female ex-offenders participate and to determine ways in which occupational therapy could benefit the participants of Transitional Options for Women (TOFW), a transitional housing program that provides a safe environment and eight-step life-skills program for ex-offenders. A Transformation To Family-Focused Nursing Practice Is Evident In Undergraduate Students, Kelly Krumwiede, Kristen Abbott-Anderson, Patricia K. Young

Nursing Education Research Conference (NERC)

Session presented on Saturday, April 9, 2016:

Introduction and Purpose: Teaching and learning are interactive and dynamic processes that require nurse educators to focus on the learner and learning (Cahill, Turner, & Barefoot, 2010). In the learner-centered paradigm educators create a collaborative environment where teaching engages students in experiences that promote intellectual processes of thinking in new ways. Nursing faculty have the responsibility to create learning experiences that will advance nursing practice (Bell, 2010; Holtslander, Solar, & Smith, 2013; Sowan & Jenkins, 2013). The responsibility for creating engaging learning approaches is particularly important for transforming practice with families. The purpose …

A Historical Analysis Of Southeast Asian Refugee Communities: Post-War Acculturation And Education In The U.S., Stacy M. Kula, Susan J. Paik Mar 2016

A Historical Analysis Of Southeast Asian Refugee Communities: Post-War Acculturation And Education In The U.S., Stacy M. Kula, Susan J. Paik

Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement

This analysis considers the circumstances of Southeast Asian refugee immigration following the Vietnam War as well as the political and social environment in the US upon their arrival, in order to examine the historical factors that link to their subsequent educational trends. Receptive government policies enabled these communities to survive; however, with the exception of first-wave Vietnamese refugees, their limited job skills, English language knowledge, and education upon arrival were exacerbated by overall prejudiced societal reception and the lack of an existing co-ethnic community to buffer their entry into US society. All groups have generally experienced low academic achievement except …

From Wilde To Obergefell: Gay Legal Theatre, 1895-2015, Todd Barry

Doctoral Dissertations

From Wilde to Obergefell:

Gay Legal Theatre, 1895-2015

Todd Barry, PhD

University of Connecticut, 2016

This dissertation examines how theatre and law have worked together to produce and regulate gay male lives since the 1895 Oscar Wilde trials. I use the term “gay legal theatre” to label an interdisciplinary body of texts and performances that include legal trials and theatrical productions. Since the Wilde trials, gay legal theatre has entrenched conceptions of gay men in transatlantic culture and influenced the laws governing gay lives and same-sex activity. I explore crucial moments in the history of this unique genre: the Wilde …
