Sustainable Livelihood And Sustainable Development: The Experience Of Collective Farming By Kudumbashree In Keralam, India, Rajeev Kumaramkandath, Bindu P. Verghese

Indonesian Journal of International Law

One of the most alarming impacts of development experienced by Third world economies in the contemporary era of globalization is the fast depletion of agricultural land. This is especially so in countries in the Third world where the rapidly increasing population and unplanned growth of economies have decreased the size of croplands to highly threatened levels. There has also been a significant shift in the meaning of land in several of these locations to being an object that can be sold and bought like any other commodity. Looking at it from a wider perspective one can vividly see that all …

Repairing The Broken Mirror: Understanding Men's Muscularity-Focused Body Image Concerns Through The Lens Of Gender Role Conflict And Self-Compassion., Michael S. Butchko

College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Psychological research pertaining to the study of men and masculinity has discerned that men are increasingly becoming dissatisfied with their bodies. However, men’s body image research has been neglected as researchers originally concluded that only women were impacted. However, the last 20 years has begun to elucidate factors and consequences of muscularity-focused body image dissatisfaction among men. Particularly, some men engage in dangerous behaviors (e.g., excessive exercise, dieting, steroid use) in order to obtain a body with large biceps, chiseled chest, and defined abdominal muscles. Also, more men are experiencing characteristics of muscle dysmorphia (MD), a subtype of body dysmorphic …

College Health Care Providers’ Student-Centered Care, Cheryl Ann Lambert, Julie Donovan Oct 2016

College Health Care Providers’ Student-Centered Care, Cheryl Ann Lambert, Julie Donovan

The Qualitative Report

Patient care in the university setting is indelibly connected to college health care providers. College health care providers adapt to a specific set of circumstances unique to the university context in their patient care roles. The authors therefore sought to investigate the patient care phenomenon from college health care providers’ lived experiences. The patient care phenomenon was explored via in-depth interviews with 11 college health care providers at universities in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the United States. The phenomenological theoretical framework of the study revealed five themes of patient care during data analysis: health education, behavioral health, student …

JCIPE Conference

To bridge the gap between interprofessional education (IPE) and interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP), educators need to foster innovation in healthcare education. Students need opportunities and experiences to practice team skills prior to patient encounters. One innovation includes the use of high-fidelity interprofessional simulation in the form of Team Observed Structured Clinical Encounters (TOSCEs) with standardized patients (SP) and realistic case scenarios. The primary objective of this study was to demonstrate the impact of formative debriefing on team-based performance during TOSCEs.

Common barriers cited for implementing interprofessional education (IPE) and practices are space constraints, scheduling and time conflicts, full curricula, lack of knowledge and skills related to collaborative practice, and accessibility to other disciplines. Due to these significant barriers, IPE necessitates the development of innovative technological teaching modalities, which provide both didactic and experiential approaches.

Using Quality Matters™ standards for designing and evaluating online courses, five interprofessional (IP) online learning activities were developed at a large Midwest academic medical center. The Interprofessional Education Collaborative Expert Panel (IPEC, 2011) rationale for IPE and their four domains for collaborative practice were the …

UBT International Conference

In the construction industry, where in recent times every detail is looked over and planned with the most scientific and technological responsibility, hospitals represent the most investigated and scrutinized facilities.

Related closely with institutional and medical practices, hospital design has undergone many reconfigurations. The second half of the past century experienced and produced many hospital models (L, H, T, K type, Patients Tower, Block Plan, etc.), all with the same denominator – too big, isolated and highly complex structures, strictly opposed to nature, oriented towards medical technology rather than patient’s well-being.

By the end of the twentieth century, a group …

A Summary Of Classification And Regression Tree With Application, Adem Meta

UBT International Conference

Classification and regression tree (CART) is a non-parametric methodology that was introduced first by Breiman and colleagues in 1984. CART is a technique which divides populations into meaningful subgroups that allows the identification of groups of interest. CART as a classification method constructs decision trees. Depending on information that is available about the dataset, a classification tree or a regression tree can be constructed. The first part of this paper describes the fundamental principles of tree construction, pruning procedure and different splitting algorithms. The second part of the paper answers the questions why or why not the CART method should …

Family Functioning, Parenting Strategies, And Disordered Eating Among Hispanic Youth, Dina Ferranti

Open Access Dissertations

Disordered eating (DE) is a major public health concern related to both clinical eating disorders and obesity. DE encompasses various subclinical, yet maladaptive eating behaviors that include dieting, binge eating, and/or extreme weight control behaviors (i.e. self-induced vomiting, laxatives). Hispanic youth appear to be especially vulnerable to DE in comparison to other ethnic groups. However, to date there has been little research focused on Hispanic youth and DE, particularly those in middle childhood (8-11 years). The purpose of this study was to test a theoretical model examining family level variables, parenting strategies for eating and physical activity (PEAS) and family …
