The Development And Psychometric Testing Of The Health Literacy Knowledge, Application, And Confidence Scale (Hlkacs), Marguerite Catherine Debello Nov 2016

The Development And Psychometric Testing Of The Health Literacy Knowledge, Application, And Confidence Scale (Hlkacs), Marguerite Catherine Debello

Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations

Health literacy continues to be a pervasive issue faced by adults today within the healthcare environment. One in four adults cannot make informed decisions regarding their own care and do not understand basic healthcare information. Nursing provides the majority of healthcare teaching, yet little is known about the current knowledge level of such providers about health literacy knowledge and strategies. The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability and validity of the Health Literacy Knowledge, Application, and Confidence scale (HLKACS) with nursing students enrolled in baccalaureate and associate degree nursing programs in the state of Michigan. The study …

Simulation Of Oxygen Transfer In Liquid Lead Under Influence Of Nanoparticles By Using Lattice Boltzmann Method, E P. Kermani, Y Chen Nov 2016

Simulation Of Oxygen Transfer In Liquid Lead Under Influence Of Nanoparticles By Using Lattice Boltzmann Method, E P. Kermani, Y Chen

Mechanical Engineering Faculty Research

Oxygen transfer presents a serious challenge in the application of liquid lead as a nuclear coolant in advanced reactors. To mitigate corrosion by liquid lead in contact with steel, carefully controlling the oxygen concentration has been used as an effective way. Oxygen needs to mix in liquid lead uniformly and quickly. To enhance oxygen transport in liquid lead, nanoparticles are added to the liquid metal. In the current study, a lattice Boltzmann method is applied to investigate natural convection of copper/lead and aluminum oxide/lead in two-dimensional simplified container. Two thermal boundary cases are evaluated in order to check the effect …

Ga2o3 Nanorod-Based High Temperature Gas Sensors: A 3-D Nano- Architecture And Mechanism Study, Hui-Jan Lin

Doctoral Dissertations

With the ever-demanding call for energy efficient industries and sustainable environment in the 21st century, monitoring and control of feedstock fuel combustion process are critically important in advanced energy generation systems such as power plants, gas turbines, and automotive engines, etc. The energy efficiency is essentially achieved through the fast, precise and self-sufficient measurement, as well as effective feedback control of physical parameters such as temperature and pressure, and chemical parameters such as specie concentration. However as of now, chemical and physical sensors that are able to operate in harsh environments, such as high temperature up to 1000°C, are extremely …

U.S. Military Service Members’ Reintegration, Culture, And Spiritual Development, Masako Suzuki, Atsuko Kawakami Nov 2016

U.S. Military Service Members’ Reintegration, Culture, And Spiritual Development, Masako Suzuki, Atsuko Kawakami

The Qualitative Report

This qualitative study aims to find common themes that may suggest portrayals of former service members’ psychological development and their reintegration. We have found their cognitive dissonance from experiencing two very different cultures: the highly structured collective culture of military life and the individualistic culture of civilian life. Former service members tend to develop and maintain the strong ideology of “service to others” in civilian life as their goal or purpose of life. It became clear to us how they have reached to this ideology when we used our ethnic backgrounds and understandings as Japanese researchers who came from a …

Teaching In Circles: Learning To Harmonize As A Co-Teacher Of Gifted Education, Steve Haberlin Nov 2016

Teaching In Circles: Learning To Harmonize As A Co-Teacher Of Gifted Education, Steve Haberlin

The Qualitative Report

In this autoethnography, I explored my daily challenges and frustrations working as a teacher of gifted students in inclusion classrooms in an elementary public school. Inquiring about how I coped with these challenges and eventually thrived in the position, I journaled weekly about my teaching experiences during a six-month period and collected e-mails to teachers and parents. I employed constant comparative analysis and five themes emerged: frustration, isolation, advocacy, collaboration, and influence. I discussed the themes within the greater social and cultural context, drawing upon psychology and educational theories.

Le Lieu-Écrit : Nantes, C Mansfield

Plymouth Business School

Influencers Are Invading Kids’ Apps, Jessica Honan Nov 2016

Influencers Are Invading Kids’ Apps, Jessica Honan

Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal (AELJ) Blog

Lord and Taylor, Warner Brothers, and L’Oreal all have something in common. Each of these companies have employed “social media influencers” to advertise their products and brands to consumers on social media. Social media influencers (“influencers”) tend to be described as 20 somethings that have garnered thousands of followers. Companies such as Lord & Taylor will pay these influencers thousands of dollars for them to snap pictures of their products and upload them on their different social media platforms. The goal of social media influencing is to reach young consumers that live and breath through their social media.
