Securing Mobile Applications Based On Ntru, Hanqing Zhao, Vikram Hegde, Kefeng Shi, Yi Yang Oct 2016

Securing Mobile Applications Based On Ntru, Hanqing Zhao, Vikram Hegde, Kefeng Shi, Yi Yang

ASA Multidisciplinary Research Symposium

Modern mobile devices have an urgent need for a new-generation public-key cryptographic system, which should provide sufficient security for mobile devices without degrading their performance due to limited resources. NTRU is an ideal model for this. We validate it through experimental studies. We apply NTRU to protect an Android mobile app.

The Concept Of Happy: Bartonville, Illinois, Kelsey D. Kauffman Oct 2016

The Concept Of Happy: Bartonville, Illinois, Kelsey D. Kauffman

ASA Multidisciplinary Research Symposium

While working to solve the underlying multiplicity of issues, Bartonville will need to focus on being HAPPY; that is the residents will need to actively engage in Health, Advancement, Purpose, Preservation, and Youth. The concepts of HAPPY are proposed to be expressed architecturally in the form of a community center.

Managing Drought Risk In A Changing Climate, Donald A. Wilhite Oct 2016

Managing Drought Risk In A Changing Climate, Donald A. Wilhite

National Drought Mitigation Center: Faculty Publications

There is an increasing concern worldwide regarding the ineffectiveness of current drought management practices that are based largely on crisis management. These practices are reactive and, therefore, only treat the symptoms (impacts) of drought rather than the underlying causes of the vulnerabilities associated with impacts. More effective drought management requires a shift in the paradigm from drought response to a drought risk management approach.

Collegiate Active Learning Calculus Survey (Calcs): Adapting An Instrument And Using Results, Wendy M. Smith Oct 2016

Collegiate Active Learning Calculus Survey (Calcs): Adapting An Instrument And Using Results, Wendy M. Smith

Discipline-Based Education Research Group Speaker Series

When we make changes to a course, we want to know if they "worked." There is often a desire to broaden the definition of success beyond student (passing) grades. We know from research that the further students go in mathematics, their attitudes toward and beliefs about mathematics get more and more negative. Thus, if we slow or even reverse that trend, we might then claim success for our reform efforts. Research teams at the University of Colorado Boulder created the CLASS: Colorado Learning Attitudes about Science Survey; this was originally designed for undergraduate physics, then later adapted for use with …

The Intermediate-Line Region In Active Galactic Nuclei, T. P. Adhikari, A. Różańska, B. Czerny, K. Hryniewicz, Gary J. Ferland

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications

We show that the recently observed suppression of the gap between the broad-line region (BLR) and the narrow-line region (NLR) in some active galactic nuclei (AGNs) can be fully explained by an increase of the gas density in the emitting region. Our model predicts the formation of the intermediate-line region (ILR) that is observed in some Seyfert galaxies by the detection of emission lines with intermediate-velocity FWHM ~ 700–1200 km s−1. These lines are believed to be originating from an ILR located somewhere between the BLR and NLR. As was previously proved, the apparent gap is assumed to …
