An Institutional Repository In A Multi‐Hospital Health Care System, Brenda Fay, Vicki Budzisz, Jennifer Deal Oct 2016

An Institutional Repository In A Multi‐Hospital Health Care System, Brenda Fay, Vicki Budzisz, Jennifer Deal

Health Information Technology and Library and Information Science

Institutional repositories (IR) collect, preserve and disseminate scholarly output of an institution and are common in academic settings. They are not as common in multihospital health care systems where published works are usually connected to an author’s academic affiliations. However, when concurrently, our multihospital health care system expressed an interest in publishing an online peer‐ reviewed journal and our research department expressed the desire to more easily track the works of Aurora authors, the hospital librarians stepped up for the challenge. The Aurora librarians chose the Digital Commons platform from Bepress because it allowed institutional branding, unlimited digital storage and …

Lava Flow Hazard Assessment For The Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho Falls, And Pocatello, Idaho, U.S.A., Elisabeth Gallant Oct 2016

Lava Flow Hazard Assessment For The Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho Falls, And Pocatello, Idaho, U.S.A., Elisabeth Gallant

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This study presents a probabilistic lava flow hazard assessment for the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and the cities of Idaho Falls and Pocatello, Idaho. The impetus of this work is to estimate the conditional probability that a lava flow on the eastern Snake River Plain (ESRP) will impact the areas of interest given the formation of a new volcanic vent in the region. A list of 288 eruptive events, derived from a previously published inventory of 506 surface and 32 buried vents, was created to reduce the biasing of spatial density maps towards eruptions with multiple dependent vents. Conditional probabilities …

Mapping Robinia Pseudoacacia Forest Health Conditions By Using Combined Spectral, Spatial And Textureal Information Extracted From Ikonos Imagery, H. Wang, Ruiliang Pu, Z. Zhang Oct 2016

Mapping Robinia Pseudoacacia Forest Health Conditions By Using Combined Spectral, Spatial And Textureal Information Extracted From Ikonos Imagery, H. Wang, Ruiliang Pu, Z. Zhang

School of Geosciences Faculty and Staff Publications

n this study grey-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) textures and a local statistical analysis Getis statistic (Gi), computed from IKONOS multispectral (MS) imagery acquired from the Yellow River Delta in China, along with a random forest (RF) classifier, were used to discriminate Robina pseudoacacia tree health levels. The different RF classification results of the three forest health conditions were created: (1) an overall accuracy (OA) of 79.5% produced using the four MS band reflectances only; (2) an OA of 97.1% created with the eight GLCM features calculated from IKONOS Band 4 with the optimal window size of 13 × 13 and …

Most U.S. School Districts Have Low Access To School Counselors: Poor, Diverse, And City School Districts Exhibit Particularly High Student-To-Counselor Ratios, Douglas J. Gagnon, Marybeth J. Mattingly Oct 2016

Most U.S. School Districts Have Low Access To School Counselors: Poor, Diverse, And City School Districts Exhibit Particularly High Student-To-Counselor Ratios, Douglas J. Gagnon, Marybeth J. Mattingly

Carsey Publications

In this brief, authors Douglas Gagnon and Marybeth Mattingly examine access to school counselors in public school districts, as well as how this access is mediated by district demographic and location characteristics. They use a large nationally representative data source compiled from the 2013–2014 Civil Rights Data Collection, the 2014 Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates, and 2007 urban centric locales made available by the U.S. Census Bureau to conduct their analyses. The authors report that only 17.8 percent of school districts meet the American School Counselor Association’s recommended student-to-school counselor ratio of 250:1 or lower. The median ratio is …

E. Coli Removal By Pleurotus Ostreatus Mycofilter In Simulated Wet Environmental Pond, Savannah E. Martinez Oct 2016

E. Coli Removal By Pleurotus Ostreatus Mycofilter In Simulated Wet Environmental Pond, Savannah E. Martinez

Civil Engineering ETDs

Stormwater runoff has been referred to as the water quality issue of the day. Contamination of surface waters is an environmental concern for both human and ecosystem health. In Albuquerque, New Mexico, it is a common practice to pond stormwater runoff before it is released into the Rio Grande. Ponding stormwater works as a best management practice (BMP) to help remove floatable debris and contaminants. Mycofiltration is a BMP that has recently been introduced into the stormwater quality community. Mycofiltration is the use of fungal mycelium as a natural mitigation approach to stormwater pollution. Mycofiltration has been proven to reduce …

Information Providers: Context And Related Factors In The Information Behaviour Of Pharmaceuticals And Nice, Aondoana Daniel Orlu, Victor Ozowa, Agbenyi J. Idikwu

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The study underpin two information providers seeking behaviour, while paying more attention to NICE, since the part two of this research has done justice to pharmaceuticals. However, pharmaceutical is used here to show how they compliment the other. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is the independent organisation responsible for developing national guidance, standards and information on providing high-quality health and social care In order to gain in-depth insights into information providers’ views of their roles and activities, qualitative interviews were carried out with employees of a selection of pharmaceutical companies in the UK and with staff …

Becoming And Being A Student: A Heideggerian Analysis Of Physiotherapy Students’ Experiences, Claire Hamshire, Kirsten Jack Oct 2016

Becoming And Being A Student: A Heideggerian Analysis Of Physiotherapy Students’ Experiences, Claire Hamshire, Kirsten Jack

The Qualitative Report

This three-year, longitudinal, narrative study sought to explore physiotherapy students’ stories of their undergraduate experiences to gain an insight into the process of being a student, with an interpretation of the philosophy of Heidegger as a possible horizon for understanding. The central aim was to listen to students’ stories told in their own words over a series of narrative interviews throughout their degree programme. The first author [CH] interviewed six students a minimum of five occasions and at each interview they were encouraged with a narrative prompt to tell the stories of their experiences as a series of episodes beginning …
