Teaching Art History From A Biblical Foundation:Art History As A View Into The Great Controversy, Giselle Sarli Hasel, M.F.A.

The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning

This paper provides a broad historical overview of how Judeo-Christian philosophy and values have been communicated through the arts. It suggests that our need for artistic expression is part of our search and longing for what is greater than us. This is a divine mandate for the Bible asserts God as an artist and the role His creativity plays in the relationship between God and humanity. But Exodus 20 also indicates that this relationship can be misused and misunderstood with the prohibition of idolatry. There is a clear biblical differentiation between the wise artist, who uses art for the search …

Network Engagement Behaviors Of Three Online Diet And Exercise Programs, Hillary Stark, Abdulrahman Habib, Duha Al Smadi Dec 2016

Network Engagement Behaviors Of Three Online Diet And Exercise Programs, Hillary Stark, Abdulrahman Habib, Duha Al Smadi

Proceedings from the Document Academy

Online diet and exercise programs offer individuals many benefits not previously afforded, such as convenience and an increased network of like-minded individuals who share relevant information, while at the same time providing different levels of anonymity and engagement. While studies conducted of users engaging in groups on the popular social media platforms of Facebook and Twitter, when dieting have produced notable results, including the most frequent content shared between users, research has not yet been published regarding this topic, in relation to the social media site Instagram. There is also a lack of literature regarding the most engaging type of …

Subjectivity Filtering: Finding Cognitive Authority In Online Social Media Opinion Posts, Laurie J. Bonnici Dec 2016

Subjectivity Filtering: Finding Cognitive Authority In Online Social Media Opinion Posts, Laurie J. Bonnici

Proceedings from the Document Academy

The technological explosion of information ushered in by the Internet, and more so with online social media (OSM), has provided a forest of personal opinions from which hunters forage. Personal opinions abound in OSM, serving as secondhand knowledge sources that inform everyday decisions. This research proposes a new lens, Cognitive Authority Framework – Quality Information Source (CAF-QIS), to explore the nature, tone, intentions, and believability of OSM postings. The conceptual framework is informed by Wilson’s four dimensions of cognitive authority (CA) combined with the five traditional criteria used as a common (unnamed) model for the identification of information quality in …

A Note On Resilience Perspectives In Public Library Research: Paths Towards Research Agendas, Andreas Vårheim Dec 2016

A Note On Resilience Perspectives In Public Library Research: Paths Towards Research Agendas, Andreas Vårheim

Proceedings from the Document Academy

Resilience is the ability to cope with change. The concept of resilience originating in the natural sciences has been applied in a variety of disciplines, from physics through ecology and social ecology to psychology and cultural studies. In public library research, very little resilience research has been conducted. The derived concepts of community resilience and information resilience have been applied to a very limited extent, and primarily in relation to the role of public libraries in disasters and in information literacy initiatives toward refugees. This short paper provides a condensed overview of concepts of resilience, asserts that public libraries are …

Gauguin's Savage Document Work: Understanding As Function, Tim Gorichanaz Dec 2016

Gauguin's Savage Document Work: Understanding As Function, Tim Gorichanaz

Proceedings from the Document Academy

We tend to think of documents as things that provide answers, but documents can also provoke questions. This can be seen clearly in the study of art-making as document work, since the power of art is not in how it can represent reality, but how it can pose questions to reality. In this paper, I examine the work of 19th-century artist Paul Gauguin, which proceeded through iterative abstraction and productive reproduction. Gauguin's document work was a mode of questioning with the epistemic and communicative aim of understanding.

Physical Therapy Management Of A Patient After Hemorrhagic Stroke Using A Task-Oriented Approach In A Skilled Nursing Facility: A Case Report, Kaela Fischer Dec 2016

Physical Therapy Management Of A Patient After Hemorrhagic Stroke Using A Task-Oriented Approach In A Skilled Nursing Facility: A Case Report, Kaela Fischer

Case Report Posters

Stroke is the leading cause of long term disability in the U.S.; nearly 800,000 Americans have a stroke each year. Subarachnoid hemorrhagic stroke occurs when one of the blood vessels in the brain bursts causing a release of blood which increases intracranial pressure. There is a lack of rehabilitation research in the skilled nursing setting for hemorrhagic stroke. The purpose of this case report is to describe the PT management, using a task-oriented approach, of a patient with a subarachnoid hemorrhagic stroke being treated in a skilled nursing setting.

Physical Therapy Management Of A Patient With Chronic Brainstem Stroke Syndrome To Improve Functional Mobility: A Case Report, Kelley Flahaven

Case Report Papers

Background and Purpose: Brainstem strokes are much less common and have a higher mortality rate than cortical strokes. Brainstem strokes can lead to several physical impairments, including gaze palsies, quadriplegia, ataxia, or cranial nerve deficits, leading to decreased balance and safety as well as decreased independence with functional activities. The purpose of this case report is to provide an overview of the physical therapy care plan created for a patient with chronic brainstem strokes. Case Description: The patient is a middle-aged man who had two brainstem strokes over two years ago. He initially received physical, occupational, and speech therapies, then …

Functional Training In A Patient With Middle Cerebral Artery Stroke With Multiple Comorbidities: A Case Report, Darien Lewis

Case Report Papers

Background and Purpose: Strokes affecting the middle cerebral artery (MCA) cause impairments of recovery affected by the patient’s premorbid status. Although there is a significant amount of research detailing physical therapy (PT) interventions for patients with hemiplegia, there is a lack of evidence supporting interventions for patients with hemiplegia following stroke that have multiple comorbidities. The purpose of this case report is to describe a progressive PT plan of care (POC) for a patient following MCA stroke with multiple comorbidities in the skilled nursing setting. Case Description: The patient was a 71-year-old male admitted to the skilled nursing facility (SNF) …

Fear Of Missing Out (Fomo) And Personality: Their Relationship To Collegiate Alcohol Abuse, Kristen Webb Dec 2016

Fear Of Missing Out (Fomo) And Personality: Their Relationship To Collegiate Alcohol Abuse, Kristen Webb

Psychology Honors Theses

This study serves to examine the effects Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and personality have on alcohol-related consequences in collegiate students. To investigate these relationships, a survey was distributed to Butler University students via their daily email listserv, and 101 students’ responses were recorded. Using multiple regression analyses, no relationship was found between an individual’s degree of experienced FoMO and alcohol related consequences; however, neuroticism was found to be strongly correlated with FoMO. Additionally, extroversion inversely predicted more alcohol-related consequences, and Greek affiliation was found to be a significant predictor of one’s consequences as well.
