Statin-Associated Muscle Adverse Events : Update For Clinicians, Maha A. Al-Mohaissen, Martha J. Ignaszewski, Jiri Ignaszewski, Andrew P.

Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal

Statins are potent medications which reduce low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. Their efficacy in cardiovascular risk reduction is well established and indications for their use are expanding. While statins are generally well tolerated and safe, adverse events are relatively common, particularly statinassociated muscle adverse events (SaMAEs), which are the most frequently encountered type of adverse event. Recent guidelines and guideline updates on SaMAEs and statin intolerance have included revised definitions of SaMAEs, incorporating new evidence on their pathogenesis and management. As SaMAEs emerge as a therapeutic challenge, it is important for physicians to be aware of updates on management strategies …

Coexistence Of Autism Spectrum Disorders Among Three Children With Tuberous Sclerosis Complex : Case Reports And Review Of Literature, Amna Al-Futaisi, Ahmed Idris, Abeer Al-Mamari, Watfa S.

Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a multisystem neurocutaneous disorder inherited in an autosomal dominant manner and characterised by benign tumours in the brain and other vital organs such as the heart, eyes, kidneys, skin and lungs. Links between autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and TSC have been postulated for many decades, with TSC considered to be one of the main syndromic causes of ASD; however, precise confirmation of a relationship between these two disorders required validated diagnostic tools. Fortunately, accurate evaluation of this relationship is now possible with standardised criteria for ASD diagnosis. We report three children who presented to the …

Determining The Index Of Refraction Of Aluminum Fluoride In The Ultra Violet Spectrum, Zoe Hughes Nov 2016

Determining The Index Of Refraction Of Aluminum Fluoride In The Ultra Violet Spectrum, Zoe Hughes

Student Works

A NASA project called Large UV/Optical/Infrared Surveyor (LUVOIR) is looking into ways to coat a mirror for a new space telescope. We contributed to this project by investigating aluminum fluoride (AlF3) as a possible coating for the mirror. We measured the index of refraction of AlF3 in the wavelength range 6 – 49.5 nm by testing three sample mirrors, each made up of a silicon wafer with a coating of AlF3. We took data at the Advanced Light Source (ALS) in Berkeley, California and in the laboratory at Brigham Young University (BYU). There are discrepancies …

Studies in Scottish Literature

Describes the digital mapping element in a collaborative AHRC-funded project Curious Travellers, that combines the editing and critical interpretation of early Romantic-period travel writing with cartographical work involving digitized historic maps, especially in the correspondence and manuscript and published travel journals of the Welsh naturalist Thomas Pennant (1726-1798), and provides examples of the issues involved in matching texts and maps, particularly for Gaelic place-names.

Authority And The Narrative Voice In Stevenson's Weir Of Hermiston, Gillian Hughes Nov 2016

Authority And The Narrative Voice In Stevenson's Weir Of Hermiston, Gillian Hughes

Studies in Scottish Literature

Discusses and analyzes Robert Louis Stevenson's use of the narrator's voice in his short, unfinished novel Weir of Hermiston, comparing his narrative strategies with those of Walter Scott, George Moore, George Douglas Brown, D.H. Lawrence, and Lewis Grassic Gibbon, concluding that "Stevenson’s fictions are experimental works," that "respond ingeniously to the dominant and quasi-official formulae and assumptions of writers of classic Victorian novels, and in turn establish an important model from which subsequent British novelists ... could learn."

Marketing Ideas That Could Improve Adoptions And Reduce Return Rates Of Dogs In Shelters In The State Of Michigan, Bryan Klemett

Honors Theses

Dogs have always been something that attracts people’s attention. It is hard to decide whether it is their fur, their cuteness, or their personality that makes them lovable. The area I chose to conduct my research is in marketing. Since dogs are man’s best friend, what other better way is there to do a thesis than on something so lovable? This research entails marketing ideas that could increase adoption rates while reducing return rates of animals at shelters in the State of Michigan.

I chose this topic because as it is stated earlier, I am a dog lover. I have …
