The Surface Density Profile Of The Galactic Disk From The Terminal Velocity Curve, Stacy S. Mcgaugh

The mass distribution of the Galactic disk is constructed from the terminal velocity curve and the mass discrepancy-acceleration relation. Mass models numerically quantifying the detailed surface density profiles are tabulated. For R0 = 8 kpc, the models have stellar mass 5 < M∗ < 6 × 1010 , scale length 2.0 ≤ Rd ≤ 2.9 kpc, LSR circular velocity 222 ≤ Θ0 ≤ 233 , and solar circle stellar surface density 34 ≤ Σd(R0) ≤ 61 . The present interarm location of the solar neighborhood may have a somewhat lower stellar surface density than average for the solar circle. The Milky Way appears to be a normal spiral galaxy that obeys scaling relations like the Tully-Fisher relation, the size-mass relation, and the disk maximality-surface brightness relation. The stellar disk is maximal, and the spiral arms are massive. The bumps and wiggles in the terminal velocity curve correspond to known spiral features (e.g., the Centaurus arm is a ∼50% overdensity). The rotation curve switches between positive and negative over scales of hundreds of parsecs. The rms amplitude , implying that commonly neglected terms in the Jeans equations may be nonnegligible. The spherically averaged local dark matter density is ρ0,DM ≈ 0.009 (0.34 ). Adiabatic compression of the dark matter halo may help reconcile the Milky Way with the c-V200 relation expected in ΛCDM while also helping to mitigate the too-big-to-fail problem, but it remains difficult to reconcile the inner bulge/bar-dominated region with a cuspy halo. We note that NGC 3521 is a near twin to the Milky Way, having a similar luminosity, scale length, and rotation curve.

This paper is based on a study on the phenomenon of loan diversion. Based on a primary survey carried out in two districts of West Bengal, India, it identifies association between the socio- economic and demographic characteristics of the borrowers to the incidences of loan diversion (that is a permanent shifting of loans for purposes other than the stated one); and the extent of such loan diversion.The descriptive analysis reveals that loans mostly from microfinance institutions are diverted. Heteronormative society requires non-heterosexuals to come out in order to be recognized. Coming out is often the most challenging experience for non-heterosexuals and heteronormativity and homophobia are two powerful obstacles that they have to deal with. This paper considers how non-heterosexuals come out to themselves and to heterosexual others under the effect of Japanese cultural norms. Interviews with 24 non-heterosexuals and their experiences revealed that they have to deal with not only heteronormativity and homophobia like non-heterosexuals in the Western culture, but also “perceived homophobia,” which is created by the expectation of “respectable Japanese selves.” Thus, coming out in Japan …

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) - despite advances in prevention and medical treatment options - remains prevalent among older adults, often resulting in functional losses that negatively affect the mental health of older adults. In particular, the prevalence of both anxiety and depression in patients with AMD is high. Along with medical treatment options, low vision rehabilitation and AMD-specific behavioral and self-management programs have been developed and have demonstrated effectiveness in improving the mental health of AMD patients. The connection between black hole thermodynamics and chemistry is extended to the lower-dimensional regime by considering the rotating and charged Bañados, Teitelboim, and Zanelli (BTZ) metric in the (2 þ 1)-dimensional and (1 þ 1)-dimensional limits of Einstein gravity. The Smarr relation is naturally upheld in both BTZ cases, where those with Q ≠ 0 violate the reverse isoperimetric inequality and are thus superentropic. The inequality can be maintained, however, with the addition of a new thermodynamic work term associated with the mass renormalization scale. Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a rather common oral disease, mainly affecting adults, occurring more often in women than in men. The etiopathogenesis is still unclear. The diagnosis may be cumbersome, even in the presence of a biopsy. In addition, there are several lesions that may resemble lichen planus (lichenoid lesions) both clinically and histopathologically. Treatment of OLP can only be symptomatic and usually consists of topical application of corticosteroids.
