A Case Of Deep Vein Thrombosis With Postthrombotic Syndrome Cured By Homoeopathic Therapy, Gyandas Wadhwani
A Case Of Deep Vein Thrombosis With Postthrombotic Syndrome Cured By Homoeopathic Therapy, Gyandas Wadhwani
Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy
A 46-year-old woman consulted for right-sided deep vein thrombosis in external iliac, common femoral, superficial femoral and popliteal veins with extension along with postthrombotic syndrome. After homoeopathic consultation, she was prescribed Argentum nitricum in ascending LM potencies. Symptomatic relief was reported within 2 weeks of treatment, and gradually the quality of life improved after simultaneous reduction in pain due to other complaints of sciatica and osteoarthrosis. Venous Doppler studies repeated a year later showed complete resolution of the medical condition with homoeopathic drug therapy alone. The physical examination also revealed a reduction in limb circumference.

Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy
Adverse side effects of chemotherapy during cancer treatment have shifted considerable focus towards therapies that are not only targeted but are also devoid of toxic side effects. We evaluated the antitumorigenic activity of sulphur, and delineated the molecular mechanisms underlying sulphurinduced apoptosis in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) cells. A search for the underlying mechanism revealed that the choice between the two cellular processes, NFκBp65-mediated survival and p53-mediated apoptosis, was decided by the competition for a limited pool of transcriptional coactivator protein p300 in NSCLC cells. In contrast, sulphur inhibited otherwise upregulated survival signaling in NSCLC cells by perturbing the …
Metamorphoses After Oboe: An Examination Of The Evolution Of Oboe Part Writing Through Music History, Patrick Quinn
Metamorphoses After Oboe: An Examination Of The Evolution Of Oboe Part Writing Through Music History, Patrick Quinn
Theses and Dissertations
Throughout Western music history, the oboe has served as one of the primary members of the orchestra. From its beginnings in the Baroque consort to the modern day orchestra, the instrument's story is one of unique ups and downs between being a staple and being a necessity. Though the instrument has weathered much through Western music history, it has endured and evolved into the instrument that is so familiar today. What is not as familiar, however, is the progression the oboe took to get to its modern iteration. The modern oboe represents years of development, both technologically and musically, on …
Picrolite And The Cypriot Neolithic: An Experimental Study, Forrest Dayton Jarvi
Picrolite And The Cypriot Neolithic: An Experimental Study, Forrest Dayton Jarvi
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Picrolite, a fibrous green stone originating in the Troodos mountains on the island of Cyprus, appears in the archaeological record almost from the very earliest sites on the island. Thus far, few publications have addressed the material from anything but a descriptive perspective. Research at the Aceramic Neolithic site of Kritou Marottou Ais Giorkis has uncovered a wide variety of picrolite artifacts since excavations began in 1997. Preliminary experimental studies have begun to explore the ease of both obtaining and manipulating the material using only local materials and unassisted manpower. This thesis presents a three-part investigation into the place of …

The Lived Experience Of Registered Nurses With Substance Use Disorder Who Complete An Alternative To Discipline Program Through A State Board Of Nursing, Susan Melanie Ervin
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Substance use disorder, defined as the misuse of drugs and/or alcohol, is a major health problem in the United States. Health care providers, including nurses, are at risk for this disorder. Risk factors for substance use disorder (SUD) in nurses include social factors such as family history of the disorder and biological factors such as genetic predisposition. Specific risk factors for nurses include easy access to controlled substances (such as opiates), stressful work environments, the belief that substance use assists with coping and a lack of education related to substance use disorder.
Substance use disorder in nurses is a significant …

Structural And Functional Studies Of The Papain-Like Protease 2 From Mouse Hepatitis Virus, Yafang Chen
Structural And Functional Studies Of The Papain-Like Protease 2 From Mouse Hepatitis Virus, Yafang Chen
Open Access Dissertations
Our goal is to establish a system to investigate how the deubiquitinating (DUB) and deISGylating activities of coronavirus (CoV) papain-like protease domains (PLPs) are involved in virus immune evasion. To this end, we chose PLP2 from mouse hepatitis virus (MHV) as our target of study because MHV has historically served as a model system for the study of CoVs, and it has undeniable advantage of ease in culturing in comparison to human coronaviruses.
It is reported here the expression and purification of a region of MHV nsp3 that contains the catalytic core of the PLP2 domain and its neighboring domains. …
The Impact Of Crystal Morphology On The Thermal Responses Of Ultrasonically-Excited Energetic Materials, J. K. Miller, J. O. Mares, I. E. Gunduz, Steven F. Son, Jeff Rhoads
The Impact Of Crystal Morphology On The Thermal Responses Of Ultrasonically-Excited Energetic Materials, J. K. Miller, J. O. Mares, I. E. Gunduz, Steven F. Son, Jeff Rhoads
Purdue Energetics Research Center Articles
The ability to detect explosive materials may be significantly enhanced with local increases in vapor pressure caused by an elevation of the materials'temperature. Recently, ultrasonic excitation has been shown to generate heat within plastic-bonded energetic materials. To investigate the impact of crystal morphology on this heating, samples of elastic binder are implanted with single ammonium perchlorate crystals of two distinct shape groups. Contact piezoelectric transducers are then used to excite the samples at ultrasonicfrequencies. The thermal responses of the crystals are recorded using infrared thermography, and the rate of heating is estimated. Surface temperature increases up to 15 °C …

Goethe’S World Literature, Universal Particularism, And European Imperialism, Dongho Cha
Goethe’S World Literature, Universal Particularism, And European Imperialism, Dongho Cha
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In his article "Goethe's World Literature, Universal Particularism, and European Imperialism" Dongho Cha tracks the ideology in Goethe's concept of "world literature." Early comparatists claim to stand for the universalism of this concept by understanding it to totalize all literatures across linguistic, territorial, and national boundaries and intended to go beyond European nationalism. Cha argues that Goethe's idea of world literature is not a universal category that includes all of the world nliteratures, but a limited category that includes European literatures only and posits that world literature's and comparative literature's universalism is related to nineteenth-century European imperialism. Contrary to the …
Overt And Covert Shandyism Of Nabokov's Nikolai Gogol, Margarit Ordukhanyan
Overt And Covert Shandyism Of Nabokov's Nikolai Gogol, Margarit Ordukhanyan
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In her article "Overt and Covert Shandyism of Nabokov's Nikolai Gogol" Margarit Ordukhanyan examines Vladimir Nabokov's 1942 novel, an unusual biography of the nineteenth-century Russian author. Ordukhanyan discusses parallels between Nabokov's biography of Gogol and Laurence Sterne's Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy. She highlights the direct allusions and textual references Nabokov makes to Sterne's novel and argues that Nabokov uses Tristram Shandy as the model for creating and interpreting his biography of Gogol by fictionalizing Gogol and portraying him as a Shandean character. Further, Ordukhanyan discusses how Nabokov uses Sterne's novel to undermine the genre of literary …

Impacts Of River Influence And Wave Exposure On The Epipsammic Diatoms Of The Lake Superior Wave Zone, Leon R. Katona
Impacts Of River Influence And Wave Exposure On The Epipsammic Diatoms Of The Lake Superior Wave Zone, Leon R. Katona
All NMU Master's Theses
Although little is known about primary productivity in wave zone habitats of very large lakes, it is presumably dominated by microalgae that attach to mineral substrates. Watershed energetics are linked with these wave zones through river mouth habitats, which provide nutrient and organismal input to lake systems. In this study, I assessed the abundance, productivity, and community composition of epipsammic diatoms in river mouth and beach habitats along the south-central coast of Lake Superior. Chlorophyll a concentrations were more than three-fold greater in river mouths (mean ± 1SE = 1.17 ± 0.45 mg/m2), than in wave zone (0.36 …
Rape Perception Based On Religious Orientation, Gender, And Length Of Relationship, Julie A. Herweyer
Rape Perception Based On Religious Orientation, Gender, And Length Of Relationship, Julie A. Herweyer
All NMU Master's Theses
Rape victims face many difficulties after the traumatic event, one of these being inadequate social support. Victims frequently report apathetic, insensitive, or accusing reactions from support systems (Ahrens, 2006). Understanding how peers respond is essential for ensuring sufficient support is provided. This study explored how college students may perceive victims as predicted by participants’ gender, religious orientation, attitudes toward permissiveness, and length of relationship between victim and perpetrator. Also, order in which participants were asked about their sex was examined as a predicting variable. Participants were randomly assigned to read a vignette featuring a couple that had been dating for …
A Survey Of The Common Loon (Gavia Immer) Genome Reveals Patterns Of Natural Selection, Zach G. Gayk
A Survey Of The Common Loon (Gavia Immer) Genome Reveals Patterns Of Natural Selection, Zach G. Gayk
All NMU Master's Theses
With rapid advances in Next-Generation Sequencing technology, comparative genomics has become a viable method for studying the adaptation of species to their environment at the genome level. I investigated this in common loons (Gavia immer)—for which molecular adaptation has not been characterized—by finding signatures of positive selection as evidence for genomic adaptation.
I used Illumina short read sequencing data from a single female common loon to produce a fragmented assembly of the common loon (Gavia immer) genome. The resulting assembly had a contig N50 of 814 bp, a total length of 767,326,331 bp, and 45.7 % …
Novel Biomechanical Test Method For Cancellous Bone Screws And Screw Augmentation With Cement., Kevin Lancaster
Novel Biomechanical Test Method For Cancellous Bone Screws And Screw Augmentation With Cement., Kevin Lancaster
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It is often difficult to achieve adequate screw fixation for plate constructs in fractures with poor quality bone or in metaphyseal bone with extensive bone loss or comminution[7][17]. Furthermore, rescuing or augmenting failed screw fixation in inadequate bone with various cement products has yielded mixed results when tested with pure axial pullout loading[20][21]. In most cases, plate/screw constructs experience both vertical (translational) and horizontal (pullout) forces during physiologic loading[17][20][21]. The increased use of locked screws in plate constructs has also changed the loading patterns of bone screws. For this study, a novel “toggle-out” testing method was developed to more realistically …
