Effect Of Temperature Dropping During Solution Treatment In Rejuvenation Heat Treatment On Final Microstructures Of Udimet 520, Kritsayanee Saelor, Panyawat Wangyao

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

Udimet 520 is a low precipitation hardened nickel-based superalloy, which is made to be turbine blades at high temperature. After long-term service, the microstructure of the turbine blades could be degraded, then the mechanical properties are worse than the new ones. The rejuvenation heat treatment of degraded turbine blades, which are made of cast Udimet 520, is following by solution treatment at 1,121C / 4 hours and then double aging processes, which include primary aging at 843 C / 24 hours and secondary aging at 760 C / 16 hours, respectively. However, in practical reheat treatment processes, the temperature during solution …

Effect Of Tig Welding Parameters On Strain-Age Cracking In Joining Nickel-Based Superalloy, Gtd-111 With Inconel 625, Athittaya Athiroj, Panyawat Wangyao

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

Excellent mechanical properties at high temperature of nickel-based superalloys brought them to extensive application in severe operating conditions. However, the great mechanical properties deteriorate after long-term exposure to high temperature and it frequently causes failure of the component e.g. cracking. TIG welding is considered as an economical way to refurbish the minor damage component as replacement with new one is costly due to high material cost and complexity in manufacturing processes. Unfortunately, heat from welding that applies to the component may create new cracks during and after process from liquation and strain-age cracking. This phenomena is problem especially in precipitation-hardened …

Microstructure Based Finite Element Simulation Of Jco Forming Process For Pipeline X65, Wut Thianngoen, Saranya Kingklang, Vitoon Uthaisangsuk

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

In recent years, strong increases in energy demand have become the most important issue in every section. High strength pipeline steels make large contribution to cost reduction for fuel transportation in oil and gas industries due to their great combination of optimal strength and toughness properties. Mechanical properties of pipeline steel tubes are significantly influenced by their microstructure characteristics, which in turn are controlled by the production. In this work, the JCO forming process of gas pipeline tube made of hotrolled steel grade X65 with ferrite/pearlite microstructure was investigated by means of a FE multiscale modeling approach. Three different scales …

Petrology And Geochemistry Of The Harlan, Kellioka, And Darby Coals From The Louellen 7.5-Minute Quadrangle, Harlan County, Kentucky, Michelle N. Johnston, James C. Hower, Shifeng Dai, Peipei Wang, Panpan Xie, Jingjing Liu

Center for Applied Energy Research Faculty and Staff Publications

The Harlan, Kellioka, and Darby coals in Harlan County, Kentucky, have been among the highest quality coals mined in the Central Appalachians. The Middle Pennsylvanian coals are correlative with the Upper Elkhorn No. 1 to Upper Elkhorn No. 3½ coals to the northwest of the Pine Mountain thrust fault. Much of the mining traditionally was controlled by captive, steel-company-owned mines and the coal was part of the high volatile A bituminous portion of the coking coal blend. Overall, the coals are generally low-ash and low-sulfur, contributing to their desirability as metallurgical coals. We did observe variation both in geochemistry, such …

Delivering Green Streets: An Exploration Of Changing Perceptions And Behaviours Over Time Around Bioswales In Portland, Oregon, Glyn Everett, Jessica Lamond, Anita T. Morzillo, Annie Marissa Matsler, Faith Ka Shun Chan

Urban Studies and Planning Faculty Publications and Presentations

Green Infrastructure (GI) is an increasingly popular means of dealing with flooding and water quality issues worldwide. This study examines public perceptions of, and behaviour around, bioswales, which are a popular GI facility in the United States. Bioswales are highly visible interventions requiring support from residents and policy-makers to be implemented and maintained appropriately. To understand how the residents’ perceptions and attitudes might develop over time, we interviewed residents of Portland, Oregon, living near bioswales installed 1–2, 4–5 and 8–9 years ago, to determine awareness, understanding, and opinions about the devices. We found no consistent patterns across time periods, but …

The Eleanor Mann School of Nursing Undergraduate Honors Theses

Context: According to Alaska’s former governor the sexual violence issue in the state has become an epidemic. Four out of ten women in Alaska have been victims of sexual assault. The purpose of this research was to determine the existence of health care disparities in the treatment of Alaska Native women victims of sexual violence compared to white women victims and address the need for sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs) to provide culturally competent nursing care. Objective: The specific research questions addressed in this study compared multiple variables between Alaska Native and white women victims of sexual violence: behaviors during …

Identifiable Risk Factors Associated With Congestive Heart Failure Hospital Readmissions, Kimberly M. Snyder Dec 2015

Identifiable Risk Factors Associated With Congestive Heart Failure Hospital Readmissions, Kimberly M. Snyder

The Eleanor Mann School of Nursing Undergraduate Honors Theses

It is important to analyze patterns of risk factors associated with congestive heart failure (CHF) readmission rates. Today, if a CHF patient is readmitted within 30 days of their initial discharge the hospital will not be reimbursed for the stay. The aims of this study are to see if there is an association between patients readmitted within 30, 60, and 90 days of the initial discharge and to identify patterns of risk factors associated with CHF readmissions. A search of the CINAHL research database was conducted, using the key words “heart failure”, “signs and symptoms”, “readmission rates” and “comorbidities”. The …

Coping With Uncertainty: Cost-Benefit Analysis, The Precautionary Principle, And Climate Change, Daniel A. Farber Dec 2015

Coping With Uncertainty: Cost-Benefit Analysis, The Precautionary Principle, And Climate Change, Daniel A. Farber

Washington Law Review

Climate scientists are confident that greenhouse gases are causing climate change, but it is difficult to predict the severity of future climate change or its local impacts. Unfortunately, we cannot wait for these uncertainties to be resolved before addressing the issue of climate change. Policymakers use two different strategies for setting climate policy in the face of this uncertainty: cost-benefit analysis and the precautionary principle. Although there has been much discussion of these strategies in the abstract, there has been less effort to assess them in operation. This Article analyzes these strategies and considers their application to climate risks in …

"Underdog" Arbitration: A Plan For Transparency, Ramona L. Lampley Dec 2015

"Underdog" Arbitration: A Plan For Transparency, Ramona L. Lampley

Washington Law Review

The use of mandatory, pre-dispute arbitration clauses in consumer, employment, health-care, and even nursing home agreements is ever-increasing, even though the general public has distrust and a lack of understanding of the nature of arbitration. The Supreme Court in AT&T Mobility LLC v. Concepcion, and then in American Express Co. v. Italian Colors Restaurant, has signaled firmly that mandatory pre-dispute arbitration is here to stay. This is true even for individual low-value claims in which one party, say the consumer or employee, has little or no bargaining power. I call these claims “underdog claims.” There have been numerous …

Working Capital Requirement And The Unemployment Volatility Puzzle, Tsu-Ting Tim Lin Dec 2015

Working Capital Requirement And The Unemployment Volatility Puzzle, Tsu-Ting Tim Lin

Economics Faculty Publications

Shimer (2005) argues that a search and matching model of the labor market in which wage is determined by Nash bargaining cannot generate the observed volatility in unemployment and vacancy in response to reasonable labor productivity shocks. This paper examines how incorporating monopolistically competitive firms with a working capital requirement (in which firms borrow funds to pay their wage bills) improves the ability of the search models to match the empirical fluctuations in unemployment and vacancy without resorting to an alternative wage setting mechanism. The monetary authority follows an interest rate rule in the model. A positive labor productivity shock …

Intralingual : A Bilingual Student Magazine = 人云譯云, 2015-2016 Bilingual Publication Workshop, Department Of Translation, Lingnan University

Bilingual Publication Workshop 雙語出版工作坊

This magazine is the product—or in pedagogical terms, the learning outcome—of a course offered by the Department of Translation at Lingnan University called Bilingual Publication Workshop. The aim of the Department of Translation is to not only train students in written translation and oral interpreting between Chinese and English, but also to prepare students for work in a wide variety of careers that require excellent bilingual skills. In Hong Kong, many jobs, such as those in the publishing world, require such training.
