Functional Skill Training And Group Therapy Treatment Following A Total Hip Arthroplasty In The Acute Care Setting: A Case Report, Heidi Johnson Dec 2015

Functional Skill Training And Group Therapy Treatment Following A Total Hip Arthroplasty In The Acute Care Setting: A Case Report, Heidi Johnson

Case Report Posters

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a very common degenerative condition, often developed during middle and older ages, especially in those with more active lifestyles. Although OA can occur in any joint throughout the body, it most often develops in weight-bearing joints, such as the hip. In 2011 more than 28 million people in the United States were estimated to have OA. OA can lead to pain, stiffness, decreased range of motion, decreased strength, and in turn an overall decline in functional ability. Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is becoming more widely utilized as a means for gaining mobility and independence when a person’s …

FrontlineSMS is an open source platform that allows for high volume communication through SMS. It allows for two-way communication between the platform user and the recipient of the message. These servers only rely on the cellular network in the area; therefore FrontlineSMS connects areas that do not have access to smart phones and Internet through mobile networks. FrontlineSMS has been successful for enterprises throughout different rural areas in Africa, Mexico, and South America. Through the mobile inventory test period, FrontlineSMS is the most suitable platform for Bana.

Global Proteomic Analysis Reveals An Exclusive Role Of Thylakoid Membranes In Bioenergetics Of A Model Cyanobacterium, Michelle Liberton, Rajib Saha, Jon M. Jacobs, Amelia Y. Nguyen, Marina A. Gritsenko, Richard D. Smith, David W. Koppenaal, Himadri B. Pakrasi Dec 2015

Global Proteomic Analysis Reveals An Exclusive Role Of Thylakoid Membranes In Bioenergetics Of A Model Cyanobacterium, Michelle Liberton, Rajib Saha, Jon M. Jacobs, Amelia Y. Nguyen, Marina A. Gritsenko, Richard D. Smith, David W. Koppenaal, Himadri B. Pakrasi

Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering: Faculty Publications

Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic microbes with highly differentiated membrane systems. These organisms contain an outer membrane, plasma membrane, and an internal system of thylakoid membranes where the photosynthetic and respiratory machinery are found. This existence of compartmentalization and differentiation of membrane systems poses a number of challenges for cyanobacterial cells in terms of organization and distribution of proteins to the correct membrane system. Proteomics studies have long sought to identify the components of the different membrane systems in cyanobacteria, and to date about 450 different proteins have been attributed to either the plasma membrane or thylakoid membrane. Given the complexity of …

On The Stellar Companion To The Exoplanet Hosting Star 30 Arietis B, S. R. Kane, T. Barclay, M. Hartmann, A. P. Hatzes, Eric L. N. Jensen, D. R. Ciardi, D. Huber, J. T. Wright, E. V. Quintana

Physics & Astronomy Faculty Works

A crucial aspect of understanding planet formation is determining the binarity of the host stars. Results from radial velocity (RV) surveys and the follow-up of Kepler exoplanet candidates have demonstrated that stellar binarity certainly does not exclude the presence of planets in stable orbits and the configuration may in fact be relatively common. Here we present new results for the 30 Arietis system which confirms that the B component hosts both planetary and stellar companions. Keck AO imaging provides direct detection of the stellar companion and additional RV data are consistent with an orbiting star. We present a revised orbit …

Refining Our Understanding Of Howiesons Poort Lithic Technology: The Evidence From Grey Rocky Layer In Sibudu Cave (Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa), Paloma De La Peña Dec 2015

Refining Our Understanding Of Howiesons Poort Lithic Technology: The Evidence From Grey Rocky Layer In Sibudu Cave (Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa), Paloma De La Peña

KIP Articles

The detailed technological analysis of the youngest Howiesons Poort occupation in Sibudu Cave, layer Grey Rocky, has shown the importance of blade production (with different knapping methods involved), but also of flaking methods in coarse grained rock types. Moreover, new strategies of bifacial production and microlithism were important. Grey Rocky lithic technology shows a really versatile example of reduction strategies that were highly influenced by the characteristics of the rock types. This lithic assemblage is another example of the technological variability linked to the Howiesons Poort technocomplex. The reasons for this variability are still difficult to elucidate. Discrepancies between sites …
