Mantle-Derived Helium In Hot Springs Of The Cordillera Blanca, Peru: Implications For Mantle-To-Crust Fluid Transfer In A Flat-Slab Subduction Setting, Dennis L. Newell, Micah J. Jessup, David R. Hilton, Colin Shaw, Cameron Hughes

Geosciences Faculty Publications

Fault-controlled hot springs in the Cordillera Blanca, Peru provide geochemical evidence of mantle-derived fluids in a modern flat-slab subduction setting. The Cordillera Blanca is an ~200km-long mountain range that contains the highest peaks in the Peruvian Andes, located in an amagmatic reach of the Andean arc. The Cordillera Blanca detachment defines the southwestern edge of the range and records a progression of top-down-to-the-west ductile shear to brittle normal faulting since ~5Ma. Hot springs, recording temperatures up to 78°C, issue along this fault zone and are CO2-rich, near neutral, alkaline-chloride to alkaline-carbonate waters, with elevated trace metal contents including …

Schools Fail To Get It Right On Rap Music, Andrea L. Dennis Dec 2015

Schools Fail To Get It Right On Rap Music, Andrea L. Dennis

Popular Media

School officials treat rap music as a serious threat to the school environment. Fear and misunderstanding of, as well as bias against, this highly popular and lucrative musical art form negatively shape their perspectives on this vital aspect of youth culture.

As a result, students who express themselves through rap music in a way that challenges the schoolhouse setting risk the possibility of suspension, permanent exclusion and referral to the criminal justice system.

The ongoing case of Taylor Bell is the latest and most complex battleground on which this issue is playing out.

Some Results On Pure Submodules Relative To Submodule, Shireen O. Dakheel, Noor R. Adeb

Baghdad Science Journal

Let R be a commutative ring with identity 1 and M be a unitary left R-module. A submodule N of an R-module M is said to be pure relative to submodule T of M (Simply T-pure) if for each ideal A of R, N∩AM=AN+T∩(N∩AM). In this paper, the properties of the following concepts were studied: Pure essential submodules relative to submodule T of M (Simply T-pure essential),Pure closed submodules relative to submodule T of M (Simply T-pure closed) and relative pure complement submodule relative to submodule T of M (Simply T-pure complement) and T-purely extending. We prove that; Let M …

Functional Integrity Of Resting-State Networks Predicts Seizure Outcome After Anterior Temporal Lobectomy, Gaelle Doucet, Xiaosong He, Michael R. Sperling, Ashwini Sharan Md, Joseph I. Tracy Dec 2015

Functional Integrity Of Resting-State Networks Predicts Seizure Outcome After Anterior Temporal Lobectomy, Gaelle Doucet, Xiaosong He, Michael R. Sperling, Ashwini Sharan Md, Joseph I. Tracy

Department of Neurosurgery Posters

Rationale

Predicting seizure outcome (SO) after anterior temporal lobectomy (ATL) is a major clinical goal. With clear evidence that even focal epilepsies disrupt large scale brain networks, resting-state functional connectivity (FC) methods have been increasingly used on a pre-surgical basis to characterize the impact of seizures on brain activity. In this project, we sought to determine whether the functional integrity of resting-state networks (RSNs) prior to surgery can discriminate between patients who obtain good versus poor seizure control after ATL.
