A Critical Hermeneutic Analysis Of Presence In Nursing Practice, Alicia L. Bright Dec 2015

A Critical Hermeneutic Analysis Of Presence In Nursing Practice, Alicia L. Bright

Collected Faculty Scholarship

Nursing presence, although it involves action at times, is a humanitarian quality of relating to a patient that is known to have powerful and positive implications for both nurse and patient. However, this phenomenon has not been well understood. Three theories, drawn from the work of Paul Ricoeur and Hans-Georg Gadamer, served as the boundaries for both data collection and analysis. The theories were narrative identity, play and solicitude. This study follows a critical hermeneutic approach to field research and data analysis. Literature regarding nursing presence is reviewed and discussed, and in-depth conversations with eleven participants are recorded. Examining the …

Predicting Energy Demand Peak Using M5 Model Trees, Sara S. Abdelkader, Katarina Grolinger, Miriam Am Capretz Dec 2015

Predicting Energy Demand Peak Using M5 Model Trees, Sara S. Abdelkader, Katarina Grolinger, Miriam Am Capretz

Electrical and Computer Engineering Publications

Predicting energy demand peak is a key factor for reducing energy demand and electricity bills for commercial customers. Features influencing energy demand are many and complex, such as occupant behaviours and temperature. Feature selection can decrease prediction model complexity without sacrificing performance. In this paper, features were selected based on their multiple linear regression correlation coefficients. This paper discusses the capabilities of M5 model trees in energy demand prediction for commercial buildings. M5 model trees are similar to regression trees; however they are more suitable for continuous prediction problems. The M5 model tree prediction was developed based on a selected …

Chemistry Publications

The synthesis and characterization of a series of Group 6 metal pentacarbonyl complexes of air stable primary, secondary, and tertiary phosphines containing ferrocenylethyl substituents are reported [M(CO)5L: M = Cr, Mo, W; L = PH2(CH2CH2Fc), PH(CH2CH2Fc)2, P(CH2CH2Fc)3]. The structure and composition of the complexes were confirmed by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, IR and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, and elemental analysis. The solid-state structural data reported revealed trends in M-C and M-P bond lengths that mirrored those of the …

Finite Groups In Which Pronomality And 𝔉-Pronormality Coincide, Adolfo Ballester-Bolinches, James C. Beidleman, Arnold D. Feldman, Matthew F. Ragland Dec 2015

Finite Groups In Which Pronomality And 𝔉-Pronormality Coincide, Adolfo Ballester-Bolinches, James C. Beidleman, Arnold D. Feldman, Matthew F. Ragland

Mathematics Faculty Publications

For a formation 𝔉, a subgroup U of a finite group G is said to be 𝔉-pronormal in G if for each g ∈ G, there exists x ∈ ⟨U, Ug⟩ 𝔉 such that Ux = Ug. If 𝔉 contains 𝔑, the formation of nilpotent groups, then every 𝔉-pronormal subgroup is pronormal and, in fact, 𝔑-pronormality is just classical pronormality. The main aim of this paper is to study classes of finite soluble groups in which pronormality and 𝔉-pronormality coincide.

Public School Teachers. Waiting Period For Permanent Status. School Employment Decisions. Initiative Statute. Dec 2015

Public School Teachers. Waiting Period For Permanent Status. School Employment Decisions. Initiative Statute.

Initiatives

Increases length of service required before a teacher may become a permanent employee, from two consecutive school years to five consecutive school years. Gives local public school boards sole authority to set policies for, and ends collective bargaining over, teacher transfers, reassignments, layoffs, or re-employment, and the start date of the school year and hours in the school day. Prohibits seniority as a primary consideration in such policy decisions. Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local government: Local educational agencies (LEAs) likely would experience net higher costs in the low …

Public School Teachers. Waiting Period For Permanent Status. Initiative Statute.

Initiatives

Increases length of service required before a teacher may become a permanent employee, from two consecutive school years to five consecutive school years. Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local government: Local educational agencies (LEAs) likely would experience net higher costs in the low tens of millions of dollars statewide due to conducting more frequent teacher evaluations. LEAs might incur various other fiscal effects relating to teacher compensation, teacher turnover, and dismissal hearings, but the net impact of all these factors is difficult to determine.

Systematic Literature Search For Mscr Thesis: Intrathecal Pain Pumps For The Treatment Of Neuropathic Pain, Kathleen L. Reyes, Karen R. Mcelfresh, Jonathan D. Eldredge

Clinical and Translational Science Center Scholarly Output

This search strategy sought to construct an evidence-based position on the use of intrathecal pumps. We identified literature pertaining to the safety and efficacy of intrathecal pumps for the treatment of neuropathic pain. Articles obtained using this search strategy provided the background information for our thesis manuscript, which sought to determine if delivering opioids via the secure, non-tamperable intrathecal pain pump, in combination with other synergistic medications, would show improved pain scores and reduced side effects in patients with chronic neuropathic pain.

Water/Oil Partitioning Of Water Soluble Oil Constituents At Diverse Temperature And Pressure Conditions, Thomas Oldenburg, Ryan Snowden Dec 2015

Water/Oil Partitioning Of Water Soluble Oil Constituents At Diverse Temperature And Pressure Conditions, Thomas Oldenburg, Ryan Snowden

C-IMAGE data

Partition coefficients between oil and saltwater of water soluble oil constituents (such as BTEX and phenols) were measured at high pressure (up to 15.5MPa) and low temperature (4C). Parameters, such as pressure, temperature and salinity were varied to determine result sensitivity and to mimic conditions varying from seafloor to the surface at the MC252 spill site. Sensitivity to ‘live’ oil characteristics were investigated by charging the oil sample with methane at varying pressures.

Substituent Effects On The Binding Of Halides By Neutral And Dicationic Bis-Triazolium Receptors, Binod Nepal, Steve Scheiner Dec 2015

Substituent Effects On The Binding Of Halides By Neutral And Dicationic Bis-Triazolium Receptors, Binod Nepal, Steve Scheiner

Chemistry and Biochemistry Faculty Publications

The effects of substituent and overall charge upon the binding of a halide anion by a bis-triazolium receptor are studied by M06-2X DFT calculations, with the aug-cc-pVDZ basis set. Comparison is also made between a receptor that engages in H-bonds, with a halogen-bonding species. Fluoride is clearly most strongly bound, followed by Cl-, Br-, and I- in that order. The dicationic receptor engages in stronger complexes, but not by a very wide margin compared to its neutral counterpart. The binding is enhanced as the substituent on the two triazolium rings becomes progressively more electron-withdrawing. Halogen-substituted receptors, whether neutral or cationic, …

Connectivity Of Coastal And Oceanic Ecosystems: Pelagic Habitat Use By Juvenile Reef Fishes In The Gulf Of Mexico, Katie Bowen

HCNSO Student Theses and Dissertations

The assemblage structure, abundance, biomass, and vertical distribution of juvenile reef fishes in the offshore pelagic habitat of the northern Gulf of Mexico are described as part of the NOAA-supported Offshore Nekton Sampling and Analysis Program. The results presented here are from a 3-month, continuous sampling series in 2011 in which discrete depth strata from 0 to 1500 m were sampled using a 10-m2 MOCNESS midwater trawl. This is the first study to examine pelagic juvenile reef fish distributions across the entire oceanic northern Gulf of Mexico seaward of the continental shelf break after the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. …
