Experiment 1 evaluated effects of lactation and GS on ram-induced LH surge. Lactating (65 to 80 d postpartum; pp) and dry ewes were randomly assigned to be treated with an estrus induction protocol (EIP) consisting of a 5-d treatment with a CIDR device with an injection of a gonadotropin mixture (240 IU eCG and 120 IU hCG; P.G. 600RTM; 3 ml/animal i.m.; n = 16) or no further treatment (n=16) at removal of CIDRs. Experiment 2 was similar …
Predicting Production Behavior Of The Marcella Shale By Using Arps Equation, Bassam Abdulhameed Alabdulkareem
Predicting Production Behavior Of The Marcella Shale By Using Arps Equation, Bassam Abdulhameed Alabdulkareem
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The behavior of the horizontal wells producing from Marcellus shale is not fully understood because of the limited production history. As a result a method of predicting the long term production is needed. A number of production decline curve analysis models have been proposed for application to unconventional gas reservoirs. The problem is that the reliable production prediction method are not available when production history from Marcellus shale horizontal wells is limited. In this study, production and completion data from Marcellus shale wells were collected to build a generic model The generic model was then used in conjunction with a …

Lumbar Posture And Tissue Loading During Short-Term Static Trunk Bending, Faisal Alessa
Lumbar Posture And Tissue Loading During Short-Term Static Trunk Bending, Faisal Alessa
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Low back pain (LBP) is among the most prevalent occupational health problems worldwide and is a leading cause of lost work days. Previous studies have suggested that static prolonged trunk bending could generate lumbar muscle fatigue and introduce creep to the lumbar posterior tissues. Such physical changes could lead to alterations to the lumbar active and passive tissue sharing mechanism and also elevate spinal loading, which is highly associated with the risk of LBP. In the past, most occupational ergonomic studies focused on the instantaneous spine biomechanical responses during task performance. A few studies assessed the changes of spine biomechanics …

Essays On Aesthetics Of Food, Marya Alhelaili
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
This thesis is comprised of three essays that explore the aesthetics of food in contemporary food and table setting design. The essays are: (1) Aesthetics of Food (2) Food Design (3) Table Setting Design.;Food is an everyday necessity. With advancements in production and a plentiful supply in developed countries, the preparation of food and its consumption has developed socially and artistically. There is increased emphasis being placed on how to make and present food in nontraditional ways to enhance aesthetic appeal. Yet, there is not consensus about the aesthetic dimensions of food. The viewpoint that food should be considered a …
Comparing Different Fault Identification Algorithms In Distributed Power System, Salim Alkaabi
Comparing Different Fault Identification Algorithms In Distributed Power System, Salim Alkaabi
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
A power system is a huge complex system that delivers the electrical power from the generation units to the consumers. As the demand for electrical power increases, distributed power generation was introduced to the power system. Faults may occur in the power system at any time in different locations. These faults cause a huge damage to the system as they might lead to full failure of the power system. Using distributed generation in the power system made it even harder to identify the location of the faults in the system.;The main objective of this work is to test the different …
Learning To Teach English Learners: Instructional Coaching And Developing Novice High School Teacher Capacity, Felice Atesoglu Russell
Learning To Teach English Learners: Instructional Coaching And Developing Novice High School Teacher Capacity, Felice Atesoglu Russell
Faculty Articles
The number of English learners (ELs) in our schools continues to increase, and at the same time, the academic achievement of ELs consistently lags behind the achievement of native-English-speaking peers (Goldenberg & Coleman, 2010). These second language learners bring with them a set of special needs for teaching and learning, especially for mainstream content area teachers, who often have little or no specialized training for meeting these needs (Bunch, 2010). Although there is not yet extensive empirical work focused on how mainstream content teachers at the secondary level typically teach ELs or how they learn to more effectively teach these …

The isolate American Type Culture Collection (ATCC)® 50979™ is a small amoebozoan whose actin gene was previously characterized, but did not allow a stable phylogenetic placement. This isolate was originally mis-identified upon deposition, and subsequently mis-illustrated in a recent publication. Here, we provide both a detailed morphological description as well as additional molecular analyses in order to clarify the isolate's phylogenetic relationships. The amoeba is minute (less than 5 μm), and presents the behavior of staying in a fixed location, while emitting one or two thin pseudopods. Transmission electron microscopy reveals that the cell is covered in a …

Cancer patients frequently suffer from fatigue, a complex syndrome associated with loss of muscle mass, weakness, and depressed mood. Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) can be present at the time of diagnosis, during treatment, and persists for years after treatment. CRF negatively influences quality of life, limits functional independence, and is associated with decreased survival in patients with incurable disease. Currently there are no effective treatments to reduce CRF. The aim of this study was to use a mouse model of tumor growth and discriminate between two main components of fatigue: loss of muscle mass/function and altered mood/motivation. Here we show that …

Children With Sli Exhibit Delays Resolving Ambiguous Reference, Julie M. Estis, Brenda L. Beverly
University Faculty and Staff Publications
Fast mapping weaknesses in children with specific language impairment (SLI) may be explained by differences in disambiguation, mapping an unknown word to an unnamed object. The impact of language ability and linguistic stimulus on disambiguation was investigated. Sixteen children with SLI (8 preschool, 8 school-age) and sixteen typically developing age-matched children selected referents given familiar and unfamiliar object pairs in three ambiguous conditions: phonologically distinct word (PD), phonologically similar word (PS), no word (NW). Preschoolers with SLI did not disambiguate, unlike typically developing age-matched participants, who consistently selected unfamiliar objects given PD. School-age children with SLI disambiguated given PD. Delays …

Exploring Web-Based University Policy Statements On Plagiarism By Research-Intensive Higher Education Institutions, Ewa Mcgrail, J. Patrick Mcgrail
Research, Publications & Creative Work
Plagiarism may distress universities in the US, but there is little agreement as to exactly what constitutes plagiarism. While there is ample research on plagiarism, there is scant literature on the content of university policies regarding it. Using a systematic sample, we qualitatively 2 analyzed 20 Carnegie-classified universities that are “Very High in Research.” This included 15 public state universities and five high-profile private universities. We uncovered highly varied and even contradictory policies at these institutions. Notable policy variations existed for verbatim plagiarism, intentional plagiarism and unauthorized student collaboration at the studied institutions. We conclude by advising that the American …

Occurrence Of The Asiatic Weatherfish, Misgurnus Anguillicaudatus (Cantor, 1842), In Alabama, Usa, Lindsay Michelle White, Mark Edward Meade
Research, Publications & Creative Work
The Asiatic weatherfish, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus, is a generalist species that has invaded numerous physiographic niches worldwide. Asiatic weatherfish populations have been observed to compete with native fish populations in Hawaii and are of major concern in Australia due to the concomitant introduction of an exotic parasite. Asiatic weatherfish populations have been observed in 16 of the contiguous United States (US) since the 1940s. Alabama is the most recent US state to report sustaining Asiatic weatherfish populations. Asiatic weatherfish were first observed by local fishermen in 2000, but reported established in Alabama in 2009 and, more recently, in 2012. From 2013 …

Morphology And Phylogeny Of The Sea Anemone Stichodactyla Haddoni(Cnidaria: Anthozoa: Actiniaria) From Chabahar Bay, Iran, Gilan Attaran Fariman, Pegah Javid, Arash Shakouri
Turkish Journal of Zoology
????Carpet anemones of the genus Stichodactyla are characterized by having no calcium carbonate skeleton, being flattened with rather short tentacles, being exclusively tropical, and being hosts for clown fish species. Most of the species belonging to this genus, however, are often very similar morphologically; thus, identification by external features is rather difficult. In this study, we have described the morphology and phylogenetic affinities of a carpet anemone species collected from Chabahar Bay. Although the Iranian species showed different coloration patterns within the same geographical area, they strongly resemble Stichodactyla haddoni Saville-Kent, 1893 in having short tentacles densely covering the undulated …

The diet of the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) has been well studied in Europe, but limited information exists about its feeding habits in Greece and in other Mediterranean landscapes. We studied the diet variation of the red fox by analyzing contents from 219 red fox stomachs in central Greece from 2003 to 2005. We used canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) and quasi-distribution generalized linear model (GLM) response curves to investigate whether the trophic groups of the red fox diet varied temporally and/or spatially with environmental factors. Mammals, arthropods, and plants were the most important trophic groups in the diet; in particular, …
