Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran InSTAD terhadap: (1) keterampilan proses sains peserta didik, (2) hasil belajar kognif peserta didik, dan (3) proses sains dan hasil belajar kognitif peserta didik. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan mengguna-kan desain kuasi eksperimen. Analisis data menggunakan Independent t-test dan MANOVA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) penerapan model pembelajaran InSTAD secara signifikan lebih berpengaruh positif terhadap keterampilan proses sains dibandingkan model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing, dan hal ini ditunjukkan dengan output (t= 7.47 dan 7.53) dengan signifikansi sebesar 0.00 (sigifikansi < 0.05); (2) penerapan model pembelajaran InSTAD secara signifikan lebih berpengaruh positif terhadap hasil belajar kognitif dibandingkan model pembelajaran inkuiri …

Despite the growing interest of environmentally friendly clothing (EFC), there have been discrepancies among customers in defining EFC. The purposes of this study were to assess the participants’ environmental orientation and environmental knowledge toward EFC, to compare them in terms of college major and gender and identify relationships between orientation and knowledge, and to acquire the current perceptions and practices toward EFC. The Impact Of Social Influence, Gender, And Non-Parental Guardianship On Adolescents In Substance Use Recovery, Anne Thompson Heller, Beth S. Russell

Journal of Human Sciences and Extension

This study explored potential barriers to sustaining recovery from substance use disorders (SUD) in adolescence, particularly for youth enrolled in school-based recovery programs, or recovery schools. Participants (N = 28) enrolled full-time in a Massachusetts recovery high school completed a survey of demographic information and scales assessing social desirability, parent and peer influence, and stigma. Results indicated that peers have slightly higher influence than parents, particularly among girls and adolescents with non-parental guardians. Participants living with parents who use substances reported being sober an average of 28.7 months, versus 40.9 months for those living with nonusing parents. Participants with parental …

APOBEC3B is a newly identified source of mutation in many cancers, including breast, head/neck, lung, bladder, cervical, and ovarian. APOBEC3B is a member of the APOBEC3 family of enzymes that deaminate DNA cytosine to produce the promutagenic lesion, uracil. Several APOBEC3 family members function to restrict virus replication. For instance, APOBEC3D, APOBEC3F, APOBEC3G, and APOBEC3H combine to restrict HIV-1 in human lymphocytes. HIV-1 counteracts these APOBEC3s with the viral protein Vif, which targets the relevant APOBEC3s for proteasomal degradation. While APOBEC3B does not restrict HIV-1 and is not targeted by HIV-1 Vif in CD4-positive T cells, we asked whether related …

The study area is in the northwest Borneo which extends between Sarawak and Sabah, Malaysia. This research present geochemical and petrographical data from outcrop samples distributed in the northern part of Sarawak and western part of Sabah, which are considered amongst areas with many uncertainties in terms of hydrocarbon prospectivity. A total number of sixty samples were analyzed to evaluate the organic matter content, hydrocarbon generating potential, kerogen type, thermal maturity, source input and depositional conditions. Surfactants are important bulk chemicals with diverse applications in various fields, ranging from food over detergents to industrial products like lubricants. Growing environmental awareness and limitation of petrochemical resources have shifted the focus towards the utilization of renewable resources. Good candidates are sugar based surfactants. A series of new surfactants were prepared by click chemistry using functionalized glucosides as the hydrophilic domain. Amyloid-beta plaques are a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease (AD) that can be assessed by amyloid imaging (e.g., Pittsburgh B compound [PiB]) and summarized as a scalar value. Summary values may have clinical utility but are an average over many regions of interest, potentially obscuring important topography. This study investigates the longitudinal evolution of amyloid topographies in cognitively normal older adults who had normal (N = 131) or abnormal (N = 26) PiB scans at baseline. At 3 years follow-up, 16 participants with a previously normal PiB scan had conversion to PiB scans consistent with preclinical AD. We investigated the multivariate …

The Cavan Burren is a plantation forest within the Marble Arch Caves UNESCO Global Geopark overlay along the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland border. The exposure of Cavan Burren’s "relict landscape" resulted from a 2012 partial clear fell. The Meade Basin of southwestern Kansas preserves one of the richest fossil sequences from the late Cenozoic of North America. An ongoing study has documented a rich record of fossils, especially rodents; established episodes of especially rapid species turnover (when species appear or disappear from the local record); and has attempted to relate these processes to environmental change inferred from stable isotope and other proxies for ancient climate. The non-organically supported silver nanoparticles produced via the reduction of silver oxide by hydrogen and acetvlacetone (acac) have unusual stability in aqueous solution. We have previously reported that the negative potential, the hydrophilic surface that is created by the adsorbed hydroxide ions, which resembles an oxide interface, and the low ionic strength of the solution due to the small salt concentrations in this synthetic approach all contribute to the unusual stability of the colloidal suspension.[1] However, their stability with pH variation has not been well documented. An appealing hypothesis suggests that neurons represent inputs in a coordinate system that is matched to the statistical structure of images in the natural environment. I discuss theoretical work on unsupervised learning of statistical regularities in natural images. In the model, Bayesian inference amounts to a generalized form of divisive normalization, a canonical computation that has been implicated in many neural areas. In our framework, divisive normalization is flexible: it is recruited only when the image is inferred to contain dependencies, and muted otherwise.
