Environmental Toxicology is the study of the impacts of pollutants/toxicants upon man and animals. It is also the study of natural products of the environment and their use/misuse and impacts/benefits on man and animals. Practical and current topics in toxicology will be integrated into scientific discussions. The topic for this semester is the toxicology and pharmacology of Herbal Products and Dietary Supplements. Use of Natural environmental herbal and dietary supplements have become very popular and are mostly unregulated so can be purchased over the counter. Discussions of promotions of such natural environmental products and environmental legislation pertinent to this area …

In this course we will work together to understand the methods and materials appropriate for the teaching of elementary school science in the state of Louisiana (K-6). The philosophy of this course is that people of all ages and learning styles learn best in an environment where they explore topics and come to their own understanding. This environment includes working cooperatively with others from diverse backgrounds in heterogeneous settings and is consistent with the College of Education and Human Development’s mission to prepare professionals who practice in culturally diverse settings.

Boron Nitride Colloidal Solutions, Ultralight Aerogels And Freestanding Membranes Through One-Step Exfoliation And Functionalization, Weiwei Lei, Vadym Mochalin, Dan Liu, Si Qin, Yury G. Gogotsi, Ying Chen
Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works
Manufacturing of aerogels and membranes from hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) is much more difficult than from graphene or graphene oxides because of the poor dispersibility of h-BN in water, which limits its exfoliation and preparation of colloidal solutions. Here, a simple, one-step mechano-chemical process to exfoliate and functionalize h-BN into highly water-dispersible, few-layer h-BN containing amino groups is presented. The colloidal solutions of few-layer h-BN can have unprecedentedly high concentrations, up to 30 mg ml-1, and are stable for up to several months. They can be used to produce ultralight aerogels with a density of 1.4 mg cm …

Saving The Paper Tiger: Biodiversity As An Irreplaceable Element Of Our Common Cultural Heritage, Lisa Meissner
Notre Dame Journal of International & Comparative Law
This Note examines the role of international law and human rights in the conservation of global biodiversity as an element of our shared cultural heritage. International instruments like the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora and the World Heritage Convention have changed the discourse of international conservation law by connecting natural resources, including animal species, to incentives-based structures in local or regional communities. Such a legal foundation is critical to engaging with evolving international concepts of sustainable development and rural livelihoods protection that promote making biodiversity conservation cognizably valuable to humanity, both tangibly …
