Acute Exercise And Oxidative Stress: Crossfit™ Vs. Treadmill Bout, Brian Kliszczewicz, Quindry C. John, Blessing L. Daniel, Oliver D. Gretchen Oct 2015

Acute Exercise And Oxidative Stress: Crossfit™ Vs. Treadmill Bout, Brian Kliszczewicz, Quindry C. John, Blessing L. Daniel, Oliver D. Gretchen

Faculty Articles

CrossFit™, a popular high-intensity training modality, has been the subject of scrutiny, with concerns of elevated risk of injury and health. Despite these concerns empirical evidence regarding physiologic stresses including acute oxidative stress is lacking. Therefore, the purpose of this investigation was to examine the acute redox response to a CrossFit™ bout. Furthermore, these findings were compared to a high-intensity treadmill bout as a point of reference. Ten males 26.4 ± 2.7 yrs having three or more months of CrossFit™ experience participated in the present study. Blood plasma was collected at four time points: Pre-exercise (PRE), immediately-post-exercise (IPE), 1 hr-post …

Effects Of Traditional Versus Horizontal Inertial Flywheel Power Training On Common Sport-Related Tasks, Moisés  De Hoyo , Borja Sañudo, Luis Carrasco, Sergio Domínguez-Cobo, Jesús Mateo-Cortes, María Monserrat Cadenas-Sánchez, Sophia Nimphius

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

This study aimed to analyze the effects of power training using traditional vertical resistance exercises versus direction specific horizontal inertial flywheel training on performance in common sport-related tasks. Twenty-three healthy and physically active males (age: 22.29 ± 2.45 years) volunteered to participate in this study. Participants were allocated into either the traditional training (TT) group where the half squat exercise on a smith machine was applied or the horizontal flywheel training (HFT) group performing the front step exercise with an inertial flywheel. Training volume and intensity were matched between groups by repetitions (5-8 sets with 8 repetitions) and relative intensity …

Csr Initiatives Among College Athletic Programs: A Content Analysis Of Community Service Endeavors, Rammi Hazzaa

Research Papers

This study investigated the prevalence of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in college athletic program websites. CSR refers to actions that appear to further some social good (McWilliams & Siegel, 2001). Sport entities have widely embraced the principles and practices of CSR over the past decade (Babiak & Wolfe, 2009; Bradish & Cronin, 2009). This particular study builds upon the existing literature by examining CSR practices in NCAA Division I athletic departments. A content analysis was used to collect data and test the research questions. The results suggested that community service activities only appeared on one-third of the 128 FBS …

By Any Other Name: Image Advertising And The Commercial Speech Doctrine In Jordan V. Jewel, Kelly Miller Oct 2015

By Any Other Name: Image Advertising And The Commercial Speech Doctrine In Jordan V. Jewel, Kelly Miller

Loyola of Los Angeles Entertainment Law Review

This Comment focuses on the commercial speech doctrine as applied to modern advertising strategies, specifically, corporate image advertising. It centers on the recent litigation between basketball superstar Michael Jordan and a Chicago-area grocery chain, Jewel-Osco. When Michael Jordan was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, Jewel-Osco was invited to submit a congratulatory ad for a commemorative issue of Sports Illustrated devoted exclusively to Jordan’s career and accomplishments. Because Jordan had spent the bulk of his storied professional basketball career with the Chicago Bulls, the ad seemed a natural fit. Jordan, who did not give permission for his name to …
