The influence of aggressive and violent media on children and adolescents has been a topic of concern for several decades. Research on this topic has suggested that both short term and long term exposure to aggressive/violent media can negatively impact this population. The purpose of this literature review is to discuss relevant research on the topic and examine various factors that may impact the risk of being influenced by this type of media. These factors can include time spent viewing media, content of the media viewed, gender, age, psychological characteristics, family, and peers. Various theoretical approaches to explaining the influence …

Hiv Knowledge Among Muslim University Women, Subha Singh

While studies have shown that HIV infections are increasing in Muslim countries, especially among the young population (Abu-Moghli et al. 2010), the prevalence of HIV infection among young Muslims in the United States is poorly understood. The United States has a Muslim population of 6.67 million and it is increasing every year. However, the CDC and other public health organizations do not include religious identification as a social category for which to gather statistics on risk behaviors and infection rates. Instead, health organizations disaggregate data on infection rates according to categories such as race, ethnicity, sex, social economic status, and …

One of the core beliefs of the service leadership curriculum proposed by the Hong Kong Institute of Service Leadership and Management is that ‘Every day, every human occupies a position of leadership and possesses the potential to improve his leadership quality and effectiveness’. This core belief is in sharp contrast to some of the mainstream leadership theories that only a few people and elites can be leaders. In this paper, a lecture plan regarding the nature of self-leadership with reference to service leadership is presented. The topics include definitions and concepts of self-leadership, relationships between self-leadership and service leadership, ways …

Disaster Preparedness Education And Resource Needs For Pregnant And Post-Partum Families, Ellen A. Erickson Bonner
Nursing Theses and Dissertations
Hurricane Katrina in 2005 heightened awareness of the need to educate vulnerable populations on disaster preparedness. However, little has been written specifically on the preparedness needs of the pregnant and post-partum families. Only one article explores disaster preparedness education for this population. To fill this gap. An interprofessional sample (n=115) rated the relevance of the educational topics and birthing kit items proposed by the panel from the previous Delphi study. The education topics were reduced to four themes that explained 66.80% of the variance and the birthing kit items were reduced to six themes that explained 70.99% of the variance.

Resistance Through Literature In Romania (1945-1989), Olimpia I. Tudor
College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences Theses and Dissertations
This thesis analyses how literature, as a form of cultural resistance, offered a small margin of freedom to people in communist Romania. The study is specifically concerned with the intellectual and psychological survival within the Romanian totalitarian system maintained through oppression and arbitrary exercise of power, while prohibiting any manifestation of civil and political rights. Literary production, as a form of contesting the totalitarian regime in Romania, was one of the fewest outlets that allowed the Romanian people to experience freedom within a world dominated by an enormous and ubiquitous apparatus of total control, propaganda and indoctrination. This study uses …

Factors Associated With High Risk Infant Follow-Up Attendance, Martha Grant Fuller

Prematurity is a significant public health problem and preterm infants face well described risks of adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological theory of development describes interactions between biological and environmental factors and explains how these interactions can impact development. Systematic follow-up of preterm, high-risk infants is recommended for early identification of problems and provision of interventions and support services. Most research on follow-up attendance has involved small, single sites. A retrospective analysis of population based data available in the California Children’s Services High Risk Infant Follow-up Quality of Care Initiative (HRIF-QCI) data system was performed to examine factors associated with attendance …

The staff of Midwest School District believes that guidance and counseling is an integral part of each school’s total education program. As a commitment to this belief, the district developed a program evaluation plan to both consistently and effectively evaluate district programs. An essential component of a school counseling program’s accountability is to provide evidence that what school counselors do makes a measurable difference in the lives …
