Young Adults Leaving The Church: The Tie To Intentional Spiritual Mentoring Among Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Teens Through Youth And Confirmation Ministry, Serena Alexandria Pace
Young Adults Leaving The Church: The Tie To Intentional Spiritual Mentoring Among Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Teens Through Youth And Confirmation Ministry, Serena Alexandria Pace
Doctor of Ministry
Previously churched Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)1 young adults are leaving the worship community post confirmation and post high school. Is this truly what is taking place? If so, what structures within churches and youth ministries might contribute to this problem? In order to address this problem, it is proposed that the lack of youth mentorship ministry, especially of teen-agers in the church, contributes to the problem. Worship communities can help ensure that young adults stay connected by establishing mentor relationships during the confirmation and teen years.

Trauma Of The Heart: Augmenting The Family Paradigm To Stem The Spread Of Hiv/Aids And To Facilitate Healing And Recovery In The Wake Of Hiv/Aids, Gibson Danjuma
CTS Faculty Publications and Creative Activity
This article briefly reflects on the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the African American community. The article suggests an alternative paradigm that views the high-risk behaviors that contribute to the spread of the virus as a reaction to ‘trauma of the heart’ as opposed to viewing the epidemic solely in terms of a lack of HIV and sexually transmitted disease awareness. It further suggests a pastoral intervention of expanding the paradigm of family beyond the classical nuclear construct to family as a system of individuals committed to embracing and ‘adopting’ individuals who have experienced trauma of the heart. This augmented understanding of …
Extending The Reach Of Legal Aid: Report On The Pilot Phase Of The Legal Health Check-Up Project, Ab Currie
Extending The Reach Of Legal Aid: Report On The Pilot Phase Of The Legal Health Check-Up Project, Ab Currie
Canadian Forum on Civil Justice
The intermediary partnerships that are the foundation of the Legal Health Check-Up (LHC) project are a solid platform for developing a legal service delivery model targeted at people who are the most disadvantaged that includes the pillars of outreach, integrated and holistic service.

Extending The Reach Of Legal Aid: Report On The Pilot Phase Of The Legal Health Check-Up Project, Ab Currie
Canadian Forum on Civil Justice
Research makes clear that legal service delivery, especially to the poor, fails dramatically if clients must find their own way to legal aid offices. The Legal Health Check-Up project addresses this by extending legal aid in partnership with trusted intermediary groups that are part of the everyday world of disadvantaged groups. These intermediaries make an active offer of legal service. It is hoped that the intermediaries will go beyond the gateway roles of problem-spotting and legal referral to – with the legal aid clinic – provide holistic and integrated legal services that otherwise would not be available.

Effects Of An Electronically Guided Prayer Intervention, Brian Lee Goetsch
Effects Of An Electronically Guided Prayer Intervention, Brian Lee Goetsch
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
Abstract Hope has been identified as an important factor in a variety of positive outcomes in psychotherapy, medicine, academic success, and for general levels of functioning. However, until now most studies on hope have been correlational in nature, and researchers have rarely sought to understand how hope can be facilitated. The present study considered the effect of prayer on experiences of hope in a national sample of Christian college students. An intervention group completed a guided prayer exercise once a day for 2 weeks. Pre and post-test levels of hope were assessed and compared to a control group, and a …
Narrative Identity Development For Novice Psychotherapists In Clinical Training, Dana Michelle Satterlee
Narrative Identity Development For Novice Psychotherapists In Clinical Training, Dana Michelle Satterlee
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
Abstract Narrative identity is “the internalized, evolving story of the self that each person crafts to provide his or her life with a sense of purpose and unity” (Adler, 2012, p. 367). This identity is distinct from the broad dispositional traits and the characteristic adaptations for contextualized behaviors. It provides the self with a sense of purpose, meaning, and unity across time and situations (McAdams & Olson, 2010). Researchers have developed ways of measuring innovative moments (IMs), or shifts in narrative identity that occur in psychotherapy. Researchers have also explored narrative identity processing as it seems to occur across the …
The Pastor Search Process: A Proposed Manual For The Objective Investigation And Evaluation Of A Church By The Pastoral Candidate, John David Lones
The Pastor Search Process: A Proposed Manual For The Objective Investigation And Evaluation Of A Church By The Pastoral Candidate, John David Lones
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
It is commonly acknowledged by both clergy and laity that a problem exists in the Southern Baptist Convention concerning both the length of pastoral tenure and the number of forced terminations of ministerial staff. Solutions have been proposed but little measurable change has been forthcoming. Much has been written about conflict resolution, communication between staff and lay leadership and realistic expectations. However well-intended these efforts may be, the statistics seem to indicate little or nothing has changed. This project intends to evaluate the pastor-search process from the perspective of the pastoral candidate. Churches make efforts to evaluate and investigate candidates …

Surviving The Other War: Group Intervention For Military Sexual Trauma In The Local Church, Ed Ellis Barker
Surviving The Other War: Group Intervention For Military Sexual Trauma In The Local Church, Ed Ellis Barker
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Military Sexual Trauma (MST) is, together with the current military suicide epidemic, arguably the greatest danger to soldiers serving at home or abroad, and sadly the former is a contributing factor for the latter. MST involves the sexual assault or sexual harassment of an individual by one or several fellow service members. An important avenue of assistance is through the local church; however, "the quality of mental health providers does not include a sufficient number of faith-based counselors (especially Christian) to serve the predominantly Christian demographic in the U.S. Armed Forces." To assist in this, a psycho-educational support group has …
Herrad Of Hohenbourg And Her Garden Of Delights, Alyssa M. Hughes
Herrad Of Hohenbourg And Her Garden Of Delights, Alyssa M. Hughes
Departmental Honors & Graduate Capstone Projects
Herrad of Hohenbourg was a major contributor to the visual culture of 12th century European monastic tradition. She was the abbess of a female convent known as the Hohenbourg Abbey located on the eastern slope of Mount Odilienberg in the Vosges mountain range of modern day Alsace, France. Herrad seceded her mentor Relinde as Abbess of Hohenbourg in the year 1167; her reign would last from this year until her death in 1195. Amidst the suppression of a patriarchal society, Relinde and Herrad were able to instill the necessity of education within the convent. With the passing of Relinde, Herrad …

Spring 2015: Old St. Joe’S Sits High On List Of Best Campus Churches, St. Norbert College
St. Norbert College Magazine 2013-2018
The “Old St. Joe’s Sits High on List of Best Campus Churches” article from St. Norbert College Magazine’s Spring 2015 issue celebrates the historic Old St. Joseph Church’s recognition as one of America’s top college chapels, ranking No. 18 on theologydegrees.org’s list of 50 Most Amazing College Chapels and Churches. The article highlights the church’s deep historical roots dating back to 1676, its architectural evolution, and its central role in campus spiritual life. As the oldest building on campus and home to the National Shrine of St. Joseph, Old St. Joe’s stands as a symbol of tradition, faith, and community …
