Precise Detection Of Injection Attacks On Concrete Systems, Clayton Whitelaw Nov 2015

Precise Detection Of Injection Attacks On Concrete Systems, Clayton Whitelaw

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Injection attacks, including SQL injection, cross-site scripting, and operating system command injection, rank the top two entries in the MITRE Common Vulnerability Enumeration (CVE) [1]. Under this attack model, an application (e.g., a web application) uses some untrusted input to produce an output program (e.g., a SQL query). Applications may be vulnerable to injection attacks because the untrusted input may alter the output program in malicious ways. Recent work has established a rigorous definition of injection attacks. Injections are benign iff they obey the NIE property, which states that injected symbols strictly insert or expand noncode tokens in the output …

RNA interference, or RNAi, refers to a set of biological processes that make use of conserved cellular machinery to silence genes. Although there are several variations in the source and mechanism, they are all triggered by double stranded RNA (dsRNA) which is processed by a protein complex into small, single stranded RNA, referred to as small interfering RNAs (siRNA) with complementarity to sequences in genes targeted for silencing. The use of the RNAi mechanism to develop new traits in plants has fueled a discussion about the environmental safety of the technology for these applications, and this was the subject of …

Genre, Justice & Quentin Tarantino, Eric Michael Blake Nov 2015

Genre, Justice & Quentin Tarantino, Eric Michael Blake

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The films of Quentin Tarantino have held a significant influence on modern cinema, and therefore on cinema studies. As such, studies on the social and philosophical implications of his work have appeared over the years, mostly in regards to content. However, with the exception of references to his use of cinematic violence, studies of his technique—i.e., his cinematic style—have been rare, and rarer still have been studies of the social implications that arise from the patterns of his style as well as those his subject matter.

The following thesis seeks to use the concept of Auteur Theory—specifically, that Tarantino …

Stress And Energy Transmission By Inhomogeneous Plane Waves Into Dissipative Media, Daniel C. Woods, J Stuart Bolton, Jeffrey F. Rhoads Nov 2015

Stress And Energy Transmission By Inhomogeneous Plane Waves Into Dissipative Media, Daniel C. Woods, J Stuart Bolton, Jeffrey F. Rhoads

Publications of the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories

The characteristics of sound transmission into real, or dissipative, media differ from those of transmission into lossless media. In particular, when a plane wave in a fluid is incident upon a real, dissipative elastic material, the transmitted waves are in general inhomogeneous, even when the incident wave is itself homogeneous and incident at a sub-critical angle; and more significantly, energy transmission occurs even above the critical angle. In addition, for any real incidence angle, the parameters of an incident inhomogeneous wave may be tuned so that there is no reflection from the surface of a viscoelastic solid. That phenomenon may …

Markey Cancer Center Faculty Publications

Integrin α6β4 is up-regulated in pancreatic adenocarcinomas where it contributes to carcinoma cell invasion by altering the transcriptome. In this study, we found that integrin α6β4 up-regulates several genes in the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathway, including amphiregulin (AREG), epiregulin (EREG), and ectodomain cleavage protease MMP1, which is mediated by promoter demethylation and NFAT5. The correlation of these genes with integrin α6β4 was confirmed in The Cancer Genome Atlas Pancreatic Cancer Database. Based on previous observations that integrin α6β4 cooperates with c-Met in pancreatic cancers, we examined the impact of EGFR signaling on hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)-stimulated migration and …

Understanding How Young People Experience Risk With Online-To-Offline Sexual Encounters: A Second Qualitative Phase For The Ch@T Project, Elizabeth Vp Marwah Nov 2015

Understanding How Young People Experience Risk With Online-To-Offline Sexual Encounters: A Second Qualitative Phase For The Ch@T Project, Elizabeth Vp Marwah

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This study investigates how heterosexual young people understand and manage risks related to meeting sexual partners online in the United States. The purpose of this study is to help inform the development of culturally-appropriate sexual risk communication and health promotion messages for young people by linking public health knowledge of adolescent sexual health and eHealth with anthropological theories of risk. With qualitative data from two rounds of semi-structured interviews and two group interviews with university students in central Florida, this study shows how young people experience and prioritize more social-emotional risks in meeting online-to-offline sexual partners compared to physical risks. …

Understanding Climate Change And Sea Level: A Case Study Of Middle School Student Comprehension And An Evaluation Of Tide Gauges Off The Panama Canal In The Pacific Ocean And Caribbean Sea, Juan Carlos Millan-Otoya

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The present study had two main objectives. The first was to determine the degree of understanding of climate change, sea level and sea level rise among middle school students. Combining open-ended questions with likert-scaled questions, we identified student conceptions on these topics in 86 students from 7th and 8th grades during 2012 and 2013 before and after implementing a Curriculum Unit (CU). Additional information was obtained by adding drawings to the open-ended questions during the second year to gauge how student conceptions varied from a verbal and a visual perspective. Misconceptions were identified both pre- and post-CU among …
