A Transitivity Analysis Of The Mandarin Ba Construction / Wang Jiaqi, Jiaqi Wang
Student Works (2010-2019)
Mandarin BA construction is quite a controversial but frequently-used unique sentence pattern with the most salient characteristic of sentence order. Since it is different from the most frequently-shown sentence order of subject-verb-object (SVO) in Chinese, BA construction tends to follow the pattern of “NP1+BA+NP2+V/VP”. It has been implied that the character of BA plays the role in enabling the post-verbal NP2 to occupy the pre-verbal position. Due to its structural peculiarity, the BA construction has received a considerable attention of grammarians. There have been many voices (L. Wang, 1945; Li and Thompson ,1981; H. Wang, 1984; Tsao, 1987; Li, 1990; …

Student Works (2010-2019)
The ubiquity of Web2.0 with the proliferation of blogs and social networks transformed the way people express their opinions about different entities, such as products and services. Online reviews have become a powerful source of information for customers and business that gauge customers’ purchase intentions and enterprise strategies. The amount of user generated content has grown at a fast pace that forces users to gravitate through a number of online reviews in order to get decision oriented information, which is time consuming and tedious job. Consequently, a new line of research ‘opinion mining’ has emerged. Opinion mining techniques can help …

A Study On Solution Of Matrix Riccati Differential Equations Using Ant Colony Programming And Simulink / Mohd Zahurin Mohamed Kamali, Mohd Zahurin Mohamed Kamali
Student Works (2010-2019)
Swarm intelligence is a modern artificial intelligence discipline that is concerned with the design and optimization of multiagent systems with applications in robotics. This non-traditional approach is fundamentally different from the traditional approaches. In- stead of a sophisticated controller that governs the global behavior of the system, the swarm intelligence principle is based on many unsophisticated entities (for example such as ants, termites, bees etc.) that cooperate and interact in order to exhibit a desired behav- ior. In this thesis, we implement the modified ant colony programming (ACP) algorithm for solving the matrix Riccati differential equation (MRDE). Solving MRDE, especially …

An increase in CO2 emissions to the atmosphere from the fossil fuel based industries has contributed serious global warming problems. Among several greenhouse gases (GHGs), CO2 is the prime contributor and accounts for approximately 60% of the greenhouse effect due to its immense amount of discharges. The iron and steel industry is known as the largest energy consuming manufacturing sector, contributing 5% of the world’s total energy consumption. Also, this industry is emitting about 6% of the total world anthropogenic CO2. Therefore, investigation, development and deployment of alternative energy-efficient iron-making breakthrough technologies along with CO2 capture technologies are receiving high …

The Troubled Sense Of Otherness Among Christian And Non-Christian Esl Freshmen At A Christian College In The Midwest, Yin Lam Lee-Johnson
International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal
This study was derived from an ethnographic study conducted with five ESL learners and their peers in a Christian college in the Midwest. The theoretical framework of this article was built upon Freire’s (2000) and Kumashiro’s (2001) anti-oppressive education. The study employed various data sources to find out how Christian and non-Christian ESL freshmen experienced a sense of otherness in the local college community. The findings reveal the hidden norms in the faith-based college, which marginalized the non-Christian ESL freshmen from being legitimate participants (Lave & Wenger, 1991). The researcher provides recommendations to educators and administrators in higher education for …
